  1. Fannin has a huge score for production in their system and is several years younger than Warren.
  2. Nope. If they wanted to trade Trey, it would have been done at the beginning of free agency and the other team would want to negotiate an extension before making the trade and have him pass a physical. So it's hard to do during the draft. I'd be against it. Carter could replace Hendrickson but we'd still be out our first round pick.
  3. Here's Gridiron Grading's top 100. A few notable ratings are Jared Wilson in top 10, Makaki Starks near the bottom, Tyler Booker not in top 100.
  4. Yeah, if they were going to trade Trey, the time to do it would have been at the beginning of free agency so they could have redeployed his salary to better options than are available now. In this podcast, there's a lengthy discussion starting about a half hour in. Kelsey Conway says the team hasn't been offered a first round pick but did have offers with multiple lower picks. Jay Morrison says he doesn't expect an extension this year so likely a training camp holdout. Paul Dehner says the team might draft an edge at 17 to weaken Trey's leverage. Yes, the team doesn't seem to want to either pay him or trade him. They seem to want to have him play out his current, below market deal. Conway mentioned that the Higgins and Chase deals got done because Katie negotiated them for the Bengals but she hasn't been involved in dealing with Trey.
  5. Bengals have historically overlooked red flags, whether injury or character. Green wasn't charged in either incident and doesn't even seem to be facing a civil complaint. Anthony Munoz is a case where ignoring the flags worked out. Ogbuehi, Price, and Ross are cases where it didn't.
  6. They seem to have some self-imposed spending limit that is well below the salary cap. So we'll see if they make any moves for vet free agents, either before or after the draft. Signing vets before the draft would be the wiser course as you can draft with a better understanding of your roster. Even if you get a promise from an agent that player X will take a deal with your at some specified price, he may have made similar promises to other teams. He works for the player, not a team.
  7. Katie's threat to move was never serious. Everyone knew it was an empty threat.
  8. If they increased the amount he's guaranteed, it would be because they expect him to make the 53. Otherwise it would be more dead money and we know how the team abjures that.
  9. Yes, all 3 players have injury history. But Dobbins and Chubb were much better players than Moss when healthy, as they apparently are at the moment. There's no assurance any of the 3 stay healthy which is why they aren't plan A. But why not sign the better player? And what is Moss's role and how does it differ from Perine's role?
  10. Sure, they have warts. We're not looking to replace Brown though, just supplement him. I'd like Dobbins + a rookie power runner. But they could go with Nick Chubb or whomever. From your lips to Duke's ears. It would be nice to have a reliable running game and keep defenses honest.
  11. They'll probably carry 4 RBs with Brown at RB1, Moss/Perine at RB3, a rookie at RB2, and maybe the loser of Moss/Perine at RB4 or maybe Sample as an H back or something. Moss was brought in last year to cover the role Perine had previously played while Brown took the carries Mixon had. Now we bring back Perine, presumably because of Moss's injury. Then basically guarantee Moss a roster spot. Seems incoherent. Undoubtedly they do. Usually a new contract requires a physical (though the team can waive it). If they had been waiting to release Moss until he could pass a physical, then the time for it would be now. But then they reverse course. They squeeze Moss to reduce his pay while upping his guarantee, ie giving him a roster spot.
  12. This seems like a mistake. Moss took a pay cut but gets more guaranteed money than under his prior deal. We could have redeployed his cap space to a better RB.
  13. Duke's pre-draft press conference.
  14. It's interesting in the sense that there is someone in the Bengals front office who understands the difference between the draft and free agency for filling holes. But that someone doesn't seem to be Duke.
  15. Yes, a lot of NFL teams see Jackson as a guard only prospect while seeing Banks as having G-T versatility. To put it another way, they think Jackson did well at LT in a pinch but that OSU was right to start Simmons over Jackson at the beginning of the year.

You can see he's ranked as the 108th best overall player on the ESPN big board. So the odds of him being available at 81 were pretty good. It was Zabel at 49 who was the longshot. In real life, we'll see how the other teams have Ratledge ranked. Bengals fans want him as he's a clean prospect who has history next to Mims. Other teams may prefer a tackle to guard conversion project like Charles Grant or Marcus Mbow.
  17. Banks started at LT for Texas for 3 years and won the Outland and Lombardi awards last year. Jackson played LT for less than 1 full season, after Simmons got hurt. A healthy Simmons might have gone ahead of Banks.
  18. No way Jackson lasts until round 3. If you don't think any guard is worth a first or second round pick, your 3rd round options are more like Milum, Frazier, maybe Ratledge.
  19. Nope, I don't have a strong feeling about who the team will pick this year so I just guessed a guy who fits their profile and nobody else had taken.

Agreed. We should improve the protection for Sheisty and add talent where we can to the defense. A year from now we’ll have a better idea of how to take things to the next level for Golden.
  21. Yes, Stutsman has good leadership qualities and is a run stopper. He tested as an elite athlete somehow to the surprise of most. He's not good in pass defense. Jackson Woodard didn't test well at all but seems to have great reactions and diagnoses plays quickly. He has top production vs both run and pass and raves from out west. All the big boards have him way outside the top 257 but I wouldn't be shocked if he or Dolac did get picked late on day 3.

It would certainly strengthen the offense and add some LB help. No help for the secondary, Geno Stone's agent approves of it.

Just tried the ESPN simulator for the first time. Would be happy if the Bengals got this draft. Simulator said there was about a 35% chance of Campbell being there at 17 and 12% chance of Zabel at 49. Said 70% chance of Ratledge at 81 and 67% of Skattebo at 119.
  24. There's probably only a couple of impact LBs in this draft but if you just need a guy, there are plenty. We could probably get a Stutsman in round 4, Simon in round 5 or Higgins in round 6. We're looking for a starter to replace Pratt but also another body who is better than our current backup players (except Burks). I like Shaun Dolac (MAC DPOY) and Jackson Woodard (MWC DPOY) as rookie free agents if they go undrafted.
