  1. Becton was called for 18 penalties last year, 2nd most of any tackle. He allowed 12 sacks, tied for the most of any tackle.
  2. Watters had 1850 yrds from scrimmage at age 31. Allen made the pro bowl at 33.
  3. Several teams with cap space and a receiver need are kicking themselves for not giving up a 4th for Keenan Allen. That might create some willingness for a team like the Patriots or Panthers or maybe even still the Titans to offer a high second round pick for Tee.
  4. Ricky Watters and Marcus Allen were also good players late in their careers.
  5. I think PM is trolling us with the Dillard love. If Jeff Stoutland couldn't make anything of him, why would we think Frank Pollack could? Dillard was terrible last year and Titans are doing the right thing by cutting their losses. I was a bit annoyed when they signed him so quick last year instead of us being able to trade Jonah to them for a 3rd or Derrick Henry (who they reportedly were asking a 3rd for). I'd guess we aren't offering Tart or Becton as much as they hoped to get so they are waiting for a better offer to arrive from some other team. If that doesn't happen, they become Bengals. Sort of like the Warren Sapp visit but Tart and Becton are willing to sign the deal if it's the best they can get.
  6. Let's see if Hill remains at safety. They typically carry 4 safeties and 6 CBs. At the moment it looks like the depth chart is FS1 Geno Stone FS2 Dax Hill SS1 Vonn Bell SS2 Jordan Battle SS3 Tycen Anderson Maybe Battle gets more starts and snaps than Bell. That would be ok. If Anderson can't stay healthy, he would be out. But he has good wheels and could back up at free safety if Hill moves to CB.
  7. It's easy enough to circumvent anyway. If Watson is "guaranteed" a salary of 46 mil for 2026, then it could be phrased as the team exercising an option on the first day of that league year to keep him at a salary of 46 mil. If they decline the option, they owe him a 46 mil buyout. So either way he gets the money but until the contingency actually arises on the first day of the league year, they haven't made a decision and therefore don't need to fund anything in advance.
  8. Moss is lower mileage with many fewer career carries than Mixon.
  9. The NFL has the "funding rule" which requires guaranteed future payments to be put in escrow. It's an obsolete relic from the days when teams folded with players not getting paid. But it hasn't been needed since the depression. Florio checked on it last year to see how much the Browns had put in escrow for Watson. It turned out the answer was zero. It's a league rule, not in the CBA but the owners like having it around so some of them can plead cash flow problems. But it's no longer necessary and doesn't seem to be enforced anyway.
  10. Kris Jenkins of Michigan could play NT. If we miss on Tart and Becton, there are other options for vets with starting experience. George Fant signed somewhere so Cam Fleming is probably next on the list of vet swing tackles.
  11. Eh, I'm happy. We got rid of Mixon. We re-signed Williams, and added Moss. I'd have preferred Gus Edwards but Moss will do. We can draft a RB if the value is there or ignore the position. A committee of Moss and Brown looks promising, especially considering we don't run it very much.
  12. The 2 first round picks is the required compensation under the CBA if a team declines to match the offer a franchise tagged player gets from another team. The last time a team signed another team's player against their will and paid 2 firsts was about 25 years ago for Sean Gilbert (uncle of Darrelle Revis). A tag and trade is the scenario where a franchised player changes teams for less than 2 firsts, ie Davante Adams. That's what would be in play for Tee if the Bengals are willing to move him for picks or a player. He'd agree to a new contract with some team but not sign one with them. He'd sign his tender from the Bengals, which puts him under contract here and thus makes him tradeable. The trade happens, and he then signs the contract he agreed to with his new team before July 15.
  13. We'll probably re-sign Tupou. He won't be expensive to us or anyone else.
  14. The problem with Mulugheta is he gets top dollar for his clients. That's not attractive to employers and is very attractive to employees. When his client is signing cheap, we shouldn't miss out just because you don't want to have a beer with his agent. Pay the man if he helps your team and is reasonably priced. Spite isn't a great business practice.
  15. He is an unrestricted free agent who got the non-exclusive tag. The Bengals could have prevented him from negotiating with other teams via the exclusive franchise tag but it costs more. It's only rarely used, I think the last time was Drew Brees.
  16. We should have thrown an extra mil at Eluemunor and we'd be set ahead of the draft. I don't think we're playing the comp pick game this year but we'd get some good picks if more of our guys sign elsewhere. Jonah and Chido got 4th and 5th round value deals. Reader will be paid and maybe Boyd too. Problem is we're signing more outside qualifying free agents (Bell excluded) than we're losing so we won't benefit. In: Rankins, Stone, Gesicki, Moss, RT? Out: Williams, Awuzie, Reader?, Boyd?
  17. If a player currently under contract demands a trade and his current team is willing to move him for the right compensation, they'll give his agent permission to speak with other teams and tell him what they expect back. The agent will then find a team willing to both pay the old team and the player. In Tee's case, he's already a free agent and can speak with any other team in the league. If they want to acquire him without giving up 2 first round picks, they can call the Bengals directly to see what Cincinnati will take for Higgins.
  18. Apparently, they didn't take Bates' postseason honors into account for him. He and Brown got similar annual averages so they would have offset simply based on financials.
  19. I picked option A since it addresses our 2 biggest needs without creating a new one.
  20. I don't know much about Butler. Nijman has played mostly LT when Bakhtiari is out.
  21. They should have cut Wiliams already. They may be able to trade Mack, coming off a 17 sack season. Cap problem solved. They'll have to get under the cap before they can make any trades but they can restructure Herbert or someone else to become cap compliant and provide the space for their new signings.
  22. I would have just paid A'Shawn Robinson what he got from the Panthers. 7.5 mil on a 3 year deal. He's a good run stopper, doesn't provide much pass rush. If we'd signed him and Eluemunor, we'd be ready to go for the draft. Bring back some of the depth guys like Bailey and Irwin and Wilcox and Scharping and Tupou. They'll be cheap, close to min. Then the draft would be open for us. Or we could trade Tee and picks for JJ, etc.
