Low $30s for a guaranteed couple years plus some void/cuttable years makes sense to me as I believe you suggested in a different post. It just doesn’t sound like that’s what he’s asking for but who knows what the real numbers they’ve exchanged are.

Not sure what the media paradigm has to do with anything. I was simply showing some recent stats of players and saying there's a clear risk to giving $30M+ to a pass rusher entering his 30s. It's not that deep.

I get that but those players were also from 20-30 years ago. In recent NFL history it’s become increasingly rare hence using the last 11 seasons in this example.

I expect Burrow to be an elite QB into his 30s easily assuming health. There isn't a big drop in performance at 30 as a QB like there can be at other positions. Could Trey be another one? Sure. It's certainly rare to stay an elite pass rusher going into your 30s though.

After hearing he wants $30M+ per season I'm not surprised. Giving that kind of money to pass rusher in his 30s who could fall off any season is very risky, especially when the rest of the defense sucks. I don't want Trey to leave, but getting peak value for him when they need to completely rebuild a defense is smart. The Chiefs just traded an All-Pro Guard even though their offensive line was not very good and I don't think many batted an eye at that. Now will they actually take advantage of an extra 1st round pick (which I think they should get) and the additional money to spend? Who knows.

He would be a very good complimentary rusher if healthy and great if he could find some old form. Plus him and Burrow are buddies which doesn't hurt anything.
