Nation states

Dunno if you guys have seen this site before. A couple of my buddies got into a few years ago. Anyway, I thought it would be interesting for the posters here to get into.

Basically, you go to http://www.nationstates.net/page=welcome

Then go to the create a nation link. Based on your answer to the questions, your country is formulated. Once done, post the details of your country here.

I think we can even create a bloc of countries, once we have the details:

As your country exists for days, you have issues to debate on, depending how you answer, your country grows and develops, and your rankings in various categories are shown.

The Free Land of ChrisHenryville
"Are you a narc man? "

UN Category: Democratic Socialists
Civil Rights: Very Good
Economy: Developing
Political Freedoms: Excellent

Location: the West Pacific

Regional Influence: Minnow

The Free Land of ChrisHenryville is a tiny, safe nation, notable for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 5 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The enormous, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Healthcare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 37%, but much higher for the wealthy. A small but healthy private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, followed by Trout Farming and Retail.

Crime is well under control. ChrisHenryville's national animal is the ring tailed lemur and its currency is the doobie.
The Rogue Nation of Jamie_B
"I love Lois"

UN Category: New York Times Democracy
Civil Rights:
Average Economy:
Reasonable Political Freedoms:
Excellent

Location: the Pacific Regional Influence: Minnow

The Rogue Nation of Jamie_B is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its compulsory military service. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Healthcare, Social Welfare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 28%, but much higher for the wealthy. A large private sector is led by the Cheese Exports, Soda Sales, and Basket Weaving industries.

Crime is moderate, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Jamie_B's national animal is the brian, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the peter.

My outstanding issue....
The Issue
In response to a slow news week, certain highbrow newspapers have stirred up the debate over voluntary vs compulsory voting.

The Debate
"Compulsory voting makes about as much as sense as having the death penalty for attempted suicide," says civil rights activist Larry Winters. "You can't force people to be free! You can only give them the choice. Besides, if all those derelicts who can't be bothered to get off their ass once every few years voted, who would they elect? I shudder to think."
[Accept]

"It's not contradictory at all," argues political commentator Larry Spirit. "The fact is, if not everyone votes, the outcome isn't truly representative. Some groups--like elderly gun nuts--vote more often than others. That's why always we always end up with such terrible politicians."
[Accept]

"This raises an interesting issue," says Falala Thiesen, your brother. "And that is: why do we need elections, anyway? Seems to me it would be much simpler if you just decided what was right, and did it. Wouldn't that save everyone a lot of time?"
[Accept]
The Government Position
The government has yet to formalize a position on this issue.

If you wish, you may simply dismiss this issue.
The Dictatorship of Dan_Bengals_NJ
"Listen to Dan"

UN Category: Liberal Democratic Socialists
Civil Rights: Average
Economy:Fragile
Political Freedoms: Superb

Location: the South Pacific
Regional Influence: Minnow

The Dictatorship of Dan_Bengals_NJ is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

The enormous, corrupt, socially-minded government is mainly concerned with Social Welfare, although Healthcare and Education are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 38%, but much higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

Crime is totally unknown. Dan_Bengals_NJ's national animal is the bengal tiger, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the dahn.

The Republic of Bengal-dom

"We're coming for your oil... just kidding... kinda..."

<my flag got changed somehow... it is the default flag right now>

UN Category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy
Civil Rights: Good
Good Economy: Good
Good Political Freedoms: Excellent

Location: the Pacific
Regional Influence: Minnow

The Republic of Bengal-dom is a tiny, pleasant nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Healthcare, Social Welfare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 25%. A large private sector is led by the Woodchip Exports, Trout Farming, and Door-to-door Insurance Sales industries.

Crime is relatively low, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Bengal-dom's national animal is the liger and its currency is the dollars.

The small government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Healthcare. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 10%. A substantial private sector is led by the Pizza Delivery industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Book Publishing. (gotta have priorities  )

Crime is moderate. Dunces PWNS You's national animal is the blue-footed boobie and its currency is the stripper.

I dunno if you all have control over the regional controls, but if you don't, and you need something changed (such as UN delegate control over our region, which is set to yes right now), just put a request in here. I'll take care of it. Oh yeah, and welcome to the Go Bengals region. Let's kick some worldly ass. I would say to kick the Stealernation region's ass, but they really don't know how to read, so they won't be in on this.

And guys, let's try to be easy on the planet. I have to breathe the same air you all breathe.
