For those of you who don't want porter

Recommended Posts

Why?

If you think he can't play, that's fine. But if you don't want him because he played for the Stealers, that's just stupid. He was drafted by them, so that was not his choice. But now that he is a FA, if he comes here it's because he WANTS to be here.

I don't care about a player's past. Once he is a Bengal, his past is forgotten. (With the possible exception of Kimo.)

Because as a person he's a peice of shit. We have enough problems with players with attitude problems on this team. We need team unity not team divisiveness. It has nothing to do with him being from shitsburg. We want players that will bring the team together. Not rip them apart.

I wouldn't want him if we knew that we could get Willis in rd 1. I just don't like older guys with a big rep in F/A.I'll take the younger guys with their careers ahead of them for less money.

I want players who can get us to the damn super bowl. I really dont care if he is not a nice person, if a player is better than someone currently on the roster and can positivly contribute to the bengals winning bring him in.

Minus any arrests, outstanding trials, cases pending, shit like that

It has nothing to do with being nice. It has to do with respect. A person who doesn't respect others and who is hated in the locker room will hold you back. Rip your oppenents before the game and during the game. After the game shake hands and respect your opponent. You don't hold a press conference talking about the "same old buuuungles". Because of that comment and others there are current players on the team that hate him and always will, rightfully so. TJ would not piss on the son of a bitch if he was on fire.

What they are saying in Pitt,(stolen from lances blog)

Porter had to go
pissburgh Tribune Review
You can't blame the stealers for giving Joey Porter the boot. It was the only sensible move. Let's be honest. Porter is past his prime, and there's no way the stealers were going to extend his contract beyond this season.
He turns 30 on March 22 and has missed significant parts of the past two training camps because of surgeries on both knees.

What they are saying about Porter
pissburgh Post Gazette

Strictly talking business, it makes perfect sense for the stealers to get rid of Joey Porter. His performance slipped badly last season. The team has every right to believe that Porter, soon to be 30, with a game based on speed and quickness, no longer can get the job done at a high level, certainly not at a level worth $5 million. Once it reached that decision, it had to let him go. But that doesn't mean Porter doesn't deserve a proper send-off. He should be remembered as one of the stealers' all-time great players...

I have never read anything that says his teammates didnt respect him, opponents thats another story but I bet alot of guys dont respect bengal players. Not saying those stories dont exist I have just never seen them. Players attitudes change alot when they become teammates

Shit bobby williams told him to go fucking suck a dick during the coin toss of overtime, thats not very respectful

The Pissburgh press always covers for the stealers. The whole coaching fiasco, in which they lose all their top assistants, and bring in low-rent guys, and the papers still sing their praises saying "it was the right move, the other guys had to go" should be an indication of their shilling nature.

Everything out there to read right now says it was totally a cap move, needed the money, felt he might have lost a step, nothing about coaches, teammates thinking he is a bad guy, disrespectful or a team "cancer"

If he was signed with us some of our current players would not respect him. It would piss off a lot of Bengal players. Bobby said that DURING the game. Not after. You will say anything to get your team fired up. It serves no purpose after the game other than to start shit. He's the reason all this after game shit started the last few years.

These two quotes sum up things pretty well, as to why I wouldn't want him as an FA.

I would rest assured that if his play has really slipped, our coaching staff would be familiar enough with him to see it.

But regardless of those things, he may be an aggressive and charismatic player for a Defense...But I would prefer the mold of David Pollack to add those things to our D, and not an idiot like Porter - who adds them at a cost.

He would be a team problem on THIS team because of what he has done and the type of person he is. Not that team, problably not on most teams. On this team some players fucking hate him. For a team that had unity problems all of last year you don't bring someone in that will further tear the team apart.

Porter is useless once anyone, even a tight end, lays a hand on him. The stealers scheme was intended to confuse the O-line and mess up blocking assignments so Porter was able to use his athleticism to get to the QB. He sucks against the run and gets swallowed up when he has to win a 1-on-1 battle in the pass rush.

If he were to publicly apologize to Bengal fans/players and we got him at a very good price I would feel better about signing him. I seriously doubt either would happen.

We could let him compete for the job and always cut him if he sucks too bad.

I dont like Joey Porter.

But thats only because I have had to watch him run his mouth and make plays against us.

We have been clamoring for a defense with attitude. Porter has attitude of almost Chad-like proportions.

Depends on the price tag, if it were up to me. But who are we kidding? We arent signing anyone like Porter. Never have. Never will.

Thought this was a funny response to Porter getting cut.
"One week before the 2003 season opened, Porter was shot in the buttocks and thigh while he was leaving a bar/restaurant in Denver."

I don't know what it is. This statement from the link in on the page makes me laugh my ass off. :pointlaff: I can't help but picture Porter as Forrest Gump saying he got shot in the buttocks.
