Agree with you on this, though I think he makes it through the election. If elected, I suspect the Manchurian Candidate will break down at some point. So, watch the VP nominee. If it's a guy like Bloomberg--get ready to head for the hills. :P
Personality does matter a lot to me.

Furthermore, I don't want McCain in there, as he is cantankerous and will blow his top before the election. He will further damage the Republicans by dint of his policies, which in many cases are Democrat-leaning. I'd rather not see the country move closer to a mere 1 party state, at least a 1 party state in which the remaining group is the Democrat.
So you'd rather vote for a smooth talker with socialist ideals and a cheery personality than a guy who believes in capitalism and the American way but has a chip on his shoulder? (Not comparing current candidates, just an example)

You put a higher value on whether the candidate gives great speeches than whether you agree with what he says in those speeches? Funny, those who believe in the Rapture say that's exactly how the Antichrist will rise to power.

For the record, I don't like McCain either. I see him as the Republican version of Bill Clinton. He's a flip-flopper, a smooth talker who will say whatever you want him to say to get your vote. He is every bit as unprincipled and slimy as Clinton.

This is going to be a really tough election for me. Hillary and McCain's stances on issues change with whichever way the wind is blowing, and I don't agree with any of Obama's stances on major issues. So my choice is vote for someone who I don't really know where they stand, or vote for someone I completely disagree with.

Too bad it's not warmer in Canada.

if he is ever asked about what he thinks about the people that held him prisoner in Vietnam, he will say something to the effect of "i will never forgive those gooks"... He says he is talking about those particular guards, and not vietamese people in general...

As someone who believes that the system will not allow for meaningful reform, and that while powerful the President is very limited in implementing major policy shifts here at home (foreign policy is heavily impacted by the President), I would rather have someone with whom I disagree but can tolerate than someone with whom I largely agree but can't stand.

If we were choosing a dictator or something I would feel differently.
Bummer, I was going to vote for Romney.

I really don't like McCain, so I will probably vote Obama. Just because he is the most palatable to me, and I like his burgeoning cult of personality.
