-GoBengals- Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 I figured it'd be nice to break away from 6 pages of what im sure is vaginitis flair up to the extreme and post some throughts and reviews of the game. The good: *taps fingers* should be a short summery for most of us... but there was plenty of good to go along with the piles of concerns we as fans cant step past without seeing first with our own eyes. 1. Special Teams did well. coverage was good, we had a few block in the backs not called on their decent runs, but not worth caring about in preseason. kerbert was great on coverage duties on punts, and Brooks, thats right, ahmad brooks still plays here, did quite well on kickoff coverage, it seemed like he cared and was trying.. kicks were all good, snaps were good, blocking was effective, A+ on special teams. unless i missed something late when i left in the 4th. 2. Defense, the big plays, we had white solo on the deep man, which wont happen during the season, they seemed to have played a bunch of "who the fuck cares" schemes, and didnt see all that much blitzing and the TD either blackstock ( i think) or rivers was solo on the TE, which frankly wont happen without underneath help, and white covering the deep route solo on a #1 or #2 WR is never going to happen. hall played soft man, the opposite of what he was palying in camp, the scheme all together seems like they are running two plays at once compared to what was being done in camp. so the big and small plays im not worried about yet, should be a small chance this isnt a "vanilla(hate this term now) scheme we are toast, but all sources and evidence points to it being a "walk through" style focusing on the worse case scenarios on a coverage breakdown or blown assignment. 3. run game, perry looked fast, the oline got push but didnt open holes, jeremi johnson looked ok, and by ok i mean he will be our starting FB...picked up nothing as far as yards, but its not like holt, chatman and simpson are much of a pass threat, the defense came often and came hard, and had success, but if chad and tj are out there, the line gave enough time to hit chad 40 yards down field. 4. simpson, jerome looked like a rookie, his technique seems ok now, no jitter-like actions or routes, he was smooth, but gets no separation from the defenders, he needs a lot of learning time with chad and tj...chatman looked good... holt looked average 5. palmer, looked a little better, nothing special, avoiding unblocked defenders as much as possible, *rolls eyes* 6. levi jones. 2 falsr starts, he was notceably upset, the first time he seemed to be bitching to an official about something the defense did, second time just upset in general. eric g did alright... i saw brad st louis family there, seemed very nice. didnt get a chance to chat or anything tho..his wife two kids and her or her mother.. 7. seemingly no defender looked back for the ball or went for any INT's, except halls that he dropped by the endzone. and none of them got yelled at on the sidelines, it was so blatant i wanna say it was on purpose. deltha got torched once, he seemed to ahve stumbled .. and was 3-4 steps behind, safeties were slow to cover the outside.. 8. rivers is the fucking man, sure tackler and reads offense VERY well, he is going to produce for us for a long time. we need a monster next to him tho.. hopefully brooks gets a wakeup call and makes the starting roster at some point. 9. utecht looked good blocking and catching.. kelly is still a better blocker tho.. 10. peko looked great. white tackling was much better. there are 30 dudes who ill be glad to see leave in less than a week.. please share all of yours.
cinci1fan1 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 If the injury what happened to carson today does not lit some fire under this shitty display of OL play then nothing will help. If this is what will follow in the regular season then God bless us all bengal fans as we will be in for a long season As far as I am concerned our D>>>>>>O now in my eyes. It will be same way unless O gets its act together
BengalInPa Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Wow..... I wish I could take that many positives from the game, but I honestly can't.......
Wow..... I wish I could take that many positives from the game, but I honestly can't.......
its tough to get upset about 4 players who will be applying at all state a week from monday sucking up the turf. dont get me wrong, the game was gawd awful, but i cant see any grown up who knows football legitimately pissing in the wind over dan howell and anthony hoke and simeon castille played... who the fuck are those guys? i dont even know, i had to go to bengals.com and look it up.. but u know mays and bjork looked improved.. chads status will say a lot for our seasons outcome.. tj must play ewell to get paid.. not sure what rudi is all about motivation wise... also not sure why andrews didnt get the start.. seemed a lotta starters didnt start on both sides... b jonson didnt start on d did he? its all a blur now..
Spinylumpsucker Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008
Levi Jones: "In football, you've got to run, you've got to hit, you've got to catch -- there's a lot of elements that go into this game and we didn't do much of it tonight as a team." "I'm highly upset right now. There's going to be hell to pay this week." "I'll tell you what makes me angry, seeing my quarterback get up off the ground. That's what will infuriate me at any point in time. Especially seeing blood. I'm highly pissed off about that." Bobbie Williams: "That is definitely not up to anyone's standards on this offensive line, this team, the offensive line coach. It's definitely not up to our standards. Definitely not up to par." "I know I speak for everybody on the offensive line, we're just got to work harder and it starts in practice. We've got to work harder. I can safely say it's a carry-over. We had some -- I'm not going to say lollygagging -- but just going through the motions a little bit in practice, speaking for myself, and things carry over. No matter how well you think you do, you can always do better." "It hurts. That's the maing thing hurting me right now, to see Carson get hit. It hurts me deeply. We've got to correct it -- point blank." "We absolutely cannot continue to let Carson get hit."
Seems like they are a little upset with their performance. Maybe seeing Carson's bloody face will be a wakeup call. They all should have copies of Carson's bloddy face in their lockers as a reminder.

A or B?
BengalBacker Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Sad to say, and I know it's preseason and all that, but honestly I can't really point to anything positive so far. I'm always as optimistic as they come, but God damn. So far, we suck.
CTBengalsFan Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Safe to say the biggest question mark/weakness is now the offensive line. Catching the replay on NFL Network now. Hall made two nice plays to turn completions into incompletions on the first drive.

Spinylumpsucker Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Opinions on Dhani at MLB? Would the team be better with Rivers at MLB and Johnson at WLB? Then have Dhani backing up both spots?

Bengals_12th_Man Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 The line sucks. The line blows..... They need to do more than just roll over and blow blitz coverages. They don't even look close to prepared for the season.... Not. At. All. The team is spending WAY too much money for the kind of performances we've been getting. I'm disgusted right now...

Pretty sure our OL is in tact from last year.

Too drunk right now

This was their first offseason playing together. Last season Levi was out, Stacy was playing LG, and Whit was playing LT. They'll get better.

Go ahead and keep your head down there in the sand. When we roll out this same crappy play in the regular season I'll enjoy watching you try to spin it then.

For a while, I thought I was the only one who thought continuity mattered in a successful OL.

No continuity on the OL. Nice built in excuse for another year of failing to reach the playoffs. I mean...no NFL team could be expected to overcome injuries. Only the Bengals have losses like that.
