As for me being a bigot, let's run down the list of all that bigotry and hatred I'm guilty of and still support: I've dated or banged a woman from practically every ethnic group (no Mexicans though, damn you early 90's Ohio!) I support the right of consenting adults of any race, religion, creed, or sexual orientation to marry and receive the same protections under the law. I fully support the Muslim group's right to build their cultural center in NY (though in my opinion their insistence on putting it there is kind of a dick move) as it is guaranteed by the Constitution. I also support and will defend your right to practice whatever religion you choose as long as it's not being forced on me or being funded by my tax dollars. I believe that every woman should be in charge of her own body and has the right to choose what she does with it, and also believe that if you have a penis you have no fucking say in the matter. Yeah, you're right, I'm a real bigot. As well as a racist, a homophobe, and a misogynist. I'm really bummed though because I was hoping for misanthrope. As for "proving" that you're a bigot, I don't think that your complete disregard of the very definition you posted even proves that. But I do think that you're a fucking hypocrite... But think about it, how are your sweeping derogatory statements about Christians different than such remarks about Muslims that you condemn at every turn? At best the statement was prejudiced. For the record I can't stand bible thumpers myself. I have been told on many occasions that I was going to burn in hell because I "worship Mary." We even had our church burned by a bunch of redneck nut jobs when I lived in GA. We held mass in a different building for 6 months during repairs and prayed for the perpetrators at every mass. The thing that happened at my church was a pretty scary thing and it was done by protestant evangelicals. I do not however say that in my experience all protestants are assholes. I am certain there are wonderful people in the protestant church. It is a shame that there is so much ignorance and prejudice toward Catholics and other religions in general but I would indeed be a hypocrite if I labeled the entire group that way. I also apologize if I came off as unseemly in my response; you're generally much more even-keel in your responses so I was a bit taken aback. However, the response that you responded to was in response to a sweeping generalization, no? I understand where you are coming from as well. There was a time when I was a pretty vocal atheist myself. I thought shock value was the same as fighting the good fight so to speak. It was fun but in the final analysis I found that faith and wisdom are not mutually exclusive but in fact at least for me mutually dependent. I recognize that this is the easy fight, that there are many out there who can elevate themselves beyond the confines of a personal god and bask in the glory of "the message" while identifying with a label like Christianity. Problem is, the fucking assholes at the other end of the spectrum have the microphone and wave your banner. When those who have reached a higher level actually begin to put some public pressure on the middle of the pack to elevate themselves beyond "emphasis on belief" to "emphasis on message" people like me will stop lumping everyone together.
