85fanwilkes Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 I really believe that in this part of the "game" that when the draft comes around we will and should take Leonard Pope first round.
TheWretchedMass Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 Watch out for the 2 guys who are NOT on that list. Joseph and Marshall.
Guest Patmo Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Give me Ernie Simms or Manny Lawson in rd #1 and Daniel Bullocks in rd #2 and I'll be thrilled.

Guest Master Shake Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 I hope not all of those are updated because if we draft Jesse Mahelona or Dominique Byrd in round 1 I will vomit.

Manny Lawson is a 3-4 OLB, and goddamnit we don't run a fucking 3-4 defense, or need another OLB. IT'S COMMON FUCKING SENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He will pretty good though in a 3-4.
dex Posted April 14, 2006 Report Posted April 14, 2006 Well, if nothing else the law of averages says that the Bengals are most likely to draft a DB in the 24th slot. Nearly every draft analyst believes that 10-12 DBs will be selected in the first round...although it's very possible that none will be drafted with the first 10 picks. If that's the case, then about half of the final 22 first round picks will be DBs. I am convinced that Marvin won't take an offensive player, not even a tight end in the first round. Personally I sort of like Tamba Hali for the pick, assuming he's still available. Might just depend if all those teams ahead of the Bengals go DB crazy.

Your positive we don't need anymore OLB's or hybrid players in the mold of Pollack?
Well I don't think a playoff team just up and switches the defensive scheme during the offseason, so I'm pretty sure 4-3 will still be the base scheme. And I am absolutely positive that we don't need another DE/OLB hybrid in the first round, or any round for that matter, especially one that is such a HUGE liability against the run. Why switching to a base 3-4 would make no sense: 1. Experience - Has Marvin ever coached a 3-4 defense? Has Bresnahan ever coached a 3-4 defense? I don't think either have. The 3-4 defense is very complex and takes some time to learn, especially when the only player on the D with 3-4 experience is Robinson. 2. Personnel - Sam Adams has never played nose tackle, Justin Smith and Geathers are not big or strong enough to play DE in a 3-4. Our defensive line would get pwned (more than already) every game. 3. We are already one or two players away from having a very good defense. Why switch schemes and completely mess up the progress of the young players? If we stick to the 4-3 defense all we would need to add is another playmaker in the secondary and on the d-line. The switch to the 3-4 would cause us to have to draft another OLB (because Simmons is a better fit inside in a 3-4), secondary help, and at least two players for the d-line (NT for the future and DE to start immediately.) Just my opinion though so no need to be a prick about it.
