BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU wide receiver Benny Brazell did not show up at all for preseason work.

He missed every practice and still wasn't around on Monday when the fourth-ranked Tigers began preparing for Saturday's game against Oregon State.

So what's coach Nick Saban going to do about it?

Welcome Brazell back with open arms.

Brazell, also a member of the LSU track team, was in Athens for the Olympics. He failed to medal in the 400-meter hurdles, but Saban said there were plenty of people cheering for him in Baton Rouge.

"Our entire team as well as our coaching staff and everybody in the athletic department is very proud of what the athletes from LSU were able to do," Saban said. "It's especially rewarding for us and provides a lot of interest for us to cheer for somebody on our team who has an opportunity win a medal and to represent our country in the Olympics."

Even though he did not earn a medal, Saban thinks the Olympic experience may help Brazell.

"Benny has shown at times that he can be an excellent receiver, especially in practice," Saban said. "I don't think he's ever been able to take that to the game. I think when he's played, his confidence, maybe his anxiety over trying to do well, has affected him a little bit, keeping him from playing up to his abilities. Hopefully this experience of going to the Olympics and competing on that level will enhance his confidence in himself and help him as a football player."

At the end of last season Brazell did a great job on special teams, Saban said.

"It was the first time that I felt like it was important to him to get out there and contribute in football," Saban said.

This is the first time an athlete he's coached has competed in an Olympics, Saban said. A college teammate at Kent State -- Gerald Tinker -- won a gold medal in the 1972 Olympics, he said.[/quote]

So we took 2 wide recievers last year, and 2 this year (McNeal and this Benny fucker)

So assuming that we keep 6 recievers like last year, is half of our practice squad going to be recievers?

For the second consecutive year in 2005, Brazell was the runner-up in the men’s 110m hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, crossing the line in the new career-best time of 47.67 seconds. Brazell, who broke his own LSU school record by finishing in 48.52 seconds in the semifinals at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento, shaved nearly a half-second off that mark in the final when he posted a 48.05 to finish third and make the Olympic Team. “Bennie was just unbelievable when you think that his PR (personal record) was 48.80 coming here,” said former LSU head coach Pat Henry (now at Texas A&M). “He’s one of the finest competitors we’ve ever had.” Brazell turned in another strong performance with his eighth place finish later that summer at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Maybe we are getting rid of the headphones this year and just having Benny run the plays from the sideline to the huddle. That's about all he will be good for because at 165 pounds he will be fucking smashed.
