Willie in the Hall of Fame??

Recommended Posts

We've all known that Willie Anderson has been one of the best right tackles in the game for a long time.

It's really nice that a bunch of people think that Willie could make it into the Hall when his career is over. What wonders playing on a winning franchise can do for you.

What do you think?

I think that after Marvin brings home a Lombardi or two, Willie will be a shoo-in for the Hall, and will be the first of hopefully many players from the offense that will go to the Hall someday.

The three-time Pro Bowl right tackle has made 108 consecutive starts for the Bengals and 164 overall.

CINCINNATI — Amidst the revolving door and musical chairs on the Cincinnati Bengals offensive line, there's one constant — right tackle Willie Anderson.

Head coach Marvin Lewis called his three-time Pro Bowler "The Rock." Upon him, the Bengals have built the NFL's No. 8-ranked offense (342.3 yards per game) and seventh-highest scoring team (24.2 points per game).

The Bengals have operated with three new starters — center Eric Ghiaciuc, left tackle Andrew Whitworth and right guard Stacy Andrews. But Anderson owns right tackle, leading all current Bengals in consecutive starts (108), total Bengals games played (170) and most NFL starts (164).

"Obviously, Willie continues to be The Rock," Lewis said. "When he's sore and probably more injured than most guys would let on, he prepares and gets himself out there. Even when he's not taking the practice reps, he supports the guy who's in there. His presence means a lot all the time. He keeps driving and pushing guys, and bringing guys along with him.

"He loves Sunday. And on Sunday, you've got to join him. (Teammates) are not going to let him down. He's just keeps fightin' and fightin' and fightin'. He understands how (the NFL season) works. It's not a sprint. This is a long road, a journey."

Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp gave Anderson the highest praise possible.

"Outside of (ex-Cowboys star) Erik Williams, before he had the car accident in Dallas, Willie Anderson is the best right tackle ever to play the game," Sapp said. "He blocks the sun. He's got everything you want in a right tackle — the knowledge of the game, feet, hands, head, the heart, the love. He gets it done."

A 6-foot-5, 340-pounder known as "I-71," Anderson is a road-grading run blocker and shutdown pass protector. Don't look for the accolades to turn him cottony soft. After all, he's a rock.

"My coaches and teammates are expecting guys like myself to play at a high level," Anderson said. "My job is to worry about the offensive line improving, week in and week out, with our run blocking and pass protection.

"We started a new season, a two-month season, before the San Diego game (a 49-41 loss). We took care of the first month (with a 3-1 record). This second month is going to be harder than the first."

Willie will get screwed, but he is HOF material.

For years his own fanbase didn't respect him. They always thought of him as being fat and lazy forcing him to play RT instead of LT.

They always thought of him not playing against the top talent, because he was a RT instead of LT.

He doesn't have a chance at the HOF. Although he should be in the HOF.

It's just not going to happen.

Think about what you said. They have to win 2 Superbowls within the remaining time frame of Willie's bengal career to give legitmacy to him being one of the best Tackles to play the game within the last 11 years.

This is a bengal fan talking. National HOF voters don't know who the Fuck Willie Anderson is.

He's doomed to be Ken Anderson. O-Linemen get screwed anyway with HOF, How's a guy that's played mostly with the 90 bengals going to get respect?

Sadly it will never happen.

No, a trophy or too, and it could happen.

There simply aren't that many more reputable tackles then him.

Pace, Jones, Ogden. Then Willie.

In terms of names, those are the top 4. That's a fact.

Now, I think Pace and Ogden have rings. If Willie can get one, it may help nudge him over Jones in terms of namesake. That would probably do it.

Maybe not first ballot, but eventually...

Do you think being measured against Munoz helps or hurts? Land of great tackles or not as good as the original HOFer?

If Willie hopes to make it to the hall, he better hope that Dr. Z gets hit by a bus on the way to the vote or he's screwed and will go the way of Ken Anderson, Ken Riley, and Isaac Curtis.

The only reason Munoz even made it in is because he completely redefined his position and was the greatest to ever play the game...
