no all they are doing to pollack is adding in a metal plate.

cory schlesinger the Lions FB played a year or two ago with a fractured neck because he didnt want to miss time so he put the surgery off till the offseason. how badass is that?
Is thurman a member of this team? nope. I root for members of this team. If Brooks leaves in FA or gets cut then my name will change again. If Odell returns to this team I already said I would change it back. My 3 favorite players of the Marvin Lewis Bengals havent been so lucky though. Nate Webster (when i lurked the boards), Odell (when i joined the boards), Brooks (when i changed my name).
I think the Bengals are better off without a surgically repaired Pollack and i think Pollack is better off without the Bengals. Its just a harmless opinion, why dont u try not being an asshole and just share your own opinion.
Well considering that O'dell is under contract for 2-3 more years he is a member of this team
whether Marvin wants to acknowledge it or not. Dont try to come off as some holier than thou
clown either. I know you've been an asshole on here before.
ah yes and when did i jump off of a players bandwagon? ive disliked the pollack pick from the second it was made and ill stick by thurman if he ever returns to the team. ive never jumped off a players bandwagon, k thanks.
When did you jump off of a player's bandwagon? The very second that you changed your name from
the O'dell one. You even admit to being bandwagon in the post above.

I'll stick by Thurman if he ever returns to the team?? WTF!? You either stick by him or you dont.
Cant have your cake and eat it too.

You also state above that you root for members of this team. Pollack is a member of this team
whether you like him or not.

As for my opinion on the subject. If the guy has his surgery, rehabs and feels like he wants to come
back then let him. Afterall we invested a 1st round pick in the guy.

Didn't Kelley Washington have that done, too? Early on, after that happened, he was tentative also.

He`s definitely having surgery today...
According to Pollack, Dr. Anthony Guanciale, a Cincinnati spine specialist, told him last week that the fracture of the C-6 vertebra had healed but that there was concern about the "disk spaces."

Pollack was evaluated by Guanciale again Thursday and was told he needed surgery. It is scheduled for Jan. 3, though Pollack declined to give further details about the procedure.

The Bengals released word Thursday afternoon that Pollack was headed for surgery. "No forecast of Pollack's eventual return to football will be made at this time," the statement said.

Some news outlets reported that the surgery definitely spells the end of Pollack's career.

Pollack said Friday that isn't the case, which Bengals coach Marvin Lewis reiterated to reporters after Friday's practice.
Two videos from Channel 12`s Brad Johansen.

He says "Pollack is going to have a 4 hour surgery tomorrow (today) to add a metal
plate in hopes of keeping his football career alive. Pollack welcomes this surgery.
Says that he`ll know exactly what`s wrong. And the risks that he will face."

Pollacks says in this video "Initially, we were talking about surgery, and now we`re
talking about surgery. But it`s just a matter of what kind of surgery. There`s good
surgery, and there`s bad surgery. And I don`t think this is a bad surgery."
There`s a chance I can still play.

Those quotes come from the video titled "Bengals Nation Update Jan 2: Changes Ahead For 2007"

He says in this video that "David Pollack still wants to believe that he can be a part
of the Bengals football plan next year." He also says that Pollack told him today (yesterday)
"that Surgeons will go through the front of his neck, past his vocal cords, to correct the problems
and keep his hope alive."

Pollack says in this video that "It`ll be just one of those things where I`ll be working my way back,
there might be set backs, there might not be. It`s just a matter if everything goes like it should.
The good thing is having surgery, they`ll have to go in there and look at everything. So if something
is damaged even worse than we thought, we`ll know. Which is a positive thing to me. The best thing
I could of heard was having surgery. Because I know exactly what`s going on inside me. And have
no doubt about it. There`s no guessing, there`s no if ands. You know exactly cut and dry. They get
to see it. If something worse is wrong, then I want to know before I ever think about stepping back
on a football field."

Those quotes come from the video titled "Marvin Lewis Looks Ahead To New Team".

No problem. And yeah hopefully we will get some good news.
The words from Johansen and Pollack were encouraging.
But I think it may be a little while before we know anything.

Pollack has surgery
By GEOFF HOBSON
January 3, 2007

4 p.m.

The Bengals said linebacker David Pollack underwent surgery to repair the broken vertebra in his neck Wednesday but the club continues not to give a forecast about a possible return to football.

Dr. Anthony Guanciale did the surgery in Cincinnati and said in a team press release that it went without complications. Pollack is resting comfortably, he said, and his hospital stay is not expected to last more than a few days.

Pollack has said that surgery would end his career, but Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis left the door ajar last month has said that no decision has been reached.

Bengals linebacker David Pollack underwent surgery earlier today to address a fracture of the C6 vertebra and related damage.

Spine specialist Dr. Anthony Guanciale, who performed the procedure, said it went without complications, and that Pollack is resting comfortably. Pollack’s hospital stay is not expected to last more than a few days, the Bengals said in a release.

Pollack’s progress will be monitored closely by Dr. Guanciale in coming months. No forecast of Pollack’s eventual return to football will be made at this time.

The surgery was performed to repair damage that occurred when Pollack made a hit on Cleveland running back Reuben Droughns in the Week 2 game Sept. 17. Pollack suffered no paralysis from the injury. He was quickly able to resume normal activities outside of football, though he has continued to wear a neck immobilization device. He is on the Bengals’ injured reserve list.

Pollack attended the game Sunday against pissburgh and talked on the field before the game with stealers wide receiver wines hard, like Pollack, a former University of Georgia player.
Linebacker's progress will be monitored closely

Bengals linebacker David Pollack underwent surgery Wednesday to address a fracture of the C6 vertebra and related damage.

Spine specialist Dr. Anthony Guanciale, who performed the operation, said it went without complications and that Pollack was resting comfortably. Pollack's hospital stay was not expected to last more than a few days, the Bengals said in a release.

Pollack's progress will be monitored closely by Dr. Guanciale in coming months. No forecast of Pollack's eventual return to football will be made at this time.

Pollack suffered no paralysis from the injury. He was quickly able to resume normal activities outside of football, though he has continued to wear a neck immobilization device.

He is on the Bengals' injured reserve list.

Pollack attended the game Sunday against pissburgh and talked on the field before the game with stealers wide receiver wines hard, like Pollack a former University of Georgia player.

Pollack underwent an MRI and exam in the middle of December that revealed the need for surgery.

His two-year NFL career has been star-crossed, at best.

After a contract holdout that prevented him from attending training camp as a rookie in 2005, Pollack played in 14 games with 35 tackles and 4.5 sacks as a rookie.

He suffered a sprained knee midway through the season. Pollack missed the 2006 opener against Kansas City because of a hamstring injury. He suffered the fractured neck on the second defensive snap of the Browns game.

"It's a very real possibility that I won't play again," Pollack said in October.

"At the end of it, if the doctor says I'm 5 percent more likely to get injured again, there's a 0 percent chance I'll ever play again. That's a fact."
Bengals say procedure went well, but would not speculate on his future with the club.

CINCINNATI — Bengals linebacker David Pollack underwent surgery here Wednesday to repair the neck fracture he suffered on Sept. 17.

In a statement released by the club, Dr. Anthony Guanciale, a spine specialist who performed the procedure, said the operation "went without complications," and that Pollack is resting comfortably.

To protect Pollack's privacy, the team didn't reveal the hospital where the surgery took place, but the club said Pollack's hospital stay "is not expected to last more than a few days."

The surgery was performed to repair damage that occurred when Pollack made a hit on Cleveland tailback Reuben Droughns in the Bengals' 34-17 victory over the visiting Browns in the second game of the season.

Pollack fractured his C-6 vertebra, and while he suffered no spinal damage, doctors were immediately concerned about the stability of his neck.

The Bengals announced on Dec. 14 that Pollack needed surgery. On Oct. 5, when Pollack spoke publicly for the first time about his injury, he said he was told if surgery was required that his career would be over. The Bengals did not speculate on that in Wednesday's news release.

"Pollack's progress will be monitored closely by Dr. Guanciale in coming months," the statement said. "No forecast of Pollack's eventual return to football will be made at this time."

A restrictive halo brace, that was drilled to Pollack's skull, was removed in early December. Pollack has continued to wear an immobilization device to stabilize his neck.

Pollack, the Bengals' top draft pick (No. 17 overall) in 2005 from the University of Georgia, was placed on the injured reserve list on Sept. 18. He visited with teammates in the RCA Dome locker room after the Bengals' 34-16 loss at Indianapolis on Dec. 18.

In his season-ending news conference on Tuesday, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis addressed Pollack's situation. He said that at some point after surgery, "David will have to make a decision on what is in his future as far as football (is concerned)."

Pollack undergoes surgery for cracked bone in neck

January 3, 2007

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Bengals linebacker David Pollack underwent surgery Wednesday in Cincinnati for a bone he cracked in his neck in a game nearly four months ago.

There were no complications in the surgery performed by spine specialist Dr. Anthony Guanciale, and Pollack was resting comfortably, the Bengals said in a statement released Wednesday.

Pollack was expected to remain in the hospital for a few days, the Bengals said.

"No forecast of Pollack's eventual return to football will be made at this time," the Bengals said.

Pollack cracked the bone while tackling Cleveland running back Reuben Droughns during the second game of the season on Sept. 17. He was placed in a halo brace that immobilized his neck.

Doctors told him that if the fracture healed without surgery, he could resume his career.

During an interview in October, Pollack said that his career would most likely be over if he had to have surgery.

"If it heals by itself, then I'm fine," he said at the time. "It's just like anything else. I'll be fine to play again. It's just a matter of how it heals."

Pollack was a first-round draft and 17th pick overall in 2005 out of Georgia, where he played defensive end.

Smooth surgery for Pollack

By CARROLL ROGERS
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 01/04/07

Former Georgia All-America defensive end David Pollack, a first-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals, underwent surgery on his neck Wednesday morning in Cincinnati, the Bengals announced.

Dr. Anthony Guanciale, director of orthopedic spine surgery at the University of Cincinnati, said the surgery went without any complications, according to a team spokesman. The procedure was intended to stabilize Pollack's C-6 vertebra, which he fractured while making a tackle in a game for the Bengals on Sept. 17.

"Everything went great," Kelli Pollack, David's mother, said by phone from Cincinnati on Wednesday afternoon.

The future of Pollack's football career is in doubt, but Pollack told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution recently the surgery didn't necessarily rule out a return.

The Bengals, in a prepared statement, declined to predict Pollack's football future, saying simply: "Pollack's progress will be monitored closely by Dr. Guanciale in coming months."

Pollack suffered no spinal cord damage when he was injured, and no paralysis.

But after giving Pollack's fracture three months to heal while he wore a restrictive halo, Guanciale determined last month once the halo was removed that surgery was needed.

The team said Pollack is not expected to be in the hospital for more than a few days. Pollack, 24, was in his second season with the Bengals.
That`s like saying all breast surgeries are the same. Even though one surgery can be to enhance
them and another could to remove them or cancer in them.

All motor oils aren`t the same, and all surgeries aren`t the same.

Saw this on Brad Johansen's blog on Bengals.com...

"So There's A Chance"

Pollack: "Hopefully next year"

I got a chance to visit David Pollack at home just before his neck surgery. They were going through the front of the neck and past the vocal cords to insert a plate to correct the space that was left from the fracture of the C-6 vertebrae in the second of game of season.

David, of course, was full of spirit and laughter and one-liners as he talked about how he was actually excited about having surgery. This way he said he'd know exactly what was going on inside his body and leave no room for doubt when the healing takes place if he's at greater risk to play again.

"So there's a chance?" I asked. 'So there's a chance ... is what you're saying" he replied. 'What movie?' he quipped. Of course he was referring to his favorite "Dumb and Dumber." He wanted to make sure I knew I was 'dumber.'

The surgery went well today according to the press release. David says he'll be in the neck brace for another eight weeks and then begin rehab. I asked if all goes the way he hopes, when would he be able to play again? "Hopefully next year," he smiled. So you're saying there's still a chance? God Bless.
