SARASOTA, Fla. – For the first time this spring, Reds manager Jerry Narron mentioned the possibility that Ken Griffey Jr. may not be ready to play on Opening Day.

Narron was talking about which outfielders might make the roster when he said:

“A lot’s going to depend on if Griff can play. We don’t know if he’s going to be able to play.”

Griffey would not answer a direct question about whether he thought he’d be ready for April 2 opener.

“I’ll let you guys (in the media) know when I’m ready to play,” he said.

Griffey hasn’t played in a game this spring. He is still recovering from the broken left hand he suffered in December. He’s participated in all baseball activities and he’s taken live batting practice several times.

“If it’s March 14 and a guy hasn’t been able to play yet . . . at some point, you’ve got to have some spring training,” Narron said.

The Reds will play Griffey when he says he’s ready.

“Hopefully, he’ll be well enough to play in a couple of days,” Narron said.

The Reds have 16 spring training games left.

If Griffey came to Narron and said he wanted to play, he’d be in the lineup.

“I feel like that everybody,” Narron said. “If they’re not 100 percent and they say they’re ready to play, we’ll get them in there as quick as we can.”

Griffey, 37, missed nearly all of the month of September last year after dislocating a toe. He was listed as day-to-day the whole time. He missed most of September in 2005 with a foot injury. Again, he was listed day-to-day that an time as well.
A HOFer who would probably go into Cooperstown wearing Seattle's uniform.

I like him but, lordy, I think the experiment is over.

I agree. I should've used a sarcasm smiley on my post. He had a HOF career in Seattle, so people give him a pass for not producing here. I keep hearing that he's the greatest baseball player ever when healthy. My ferrari goes 150 but it won't start.
Slight Breeze Shatters Ken Griffey Jr.'s Femur
March 15, 2007 | | Onion Sports

CINCINNATI—Although Ken Griffey Jr. had nearly recovered from a broken hand sustained while playing with his children in December, his rehabilitation came to a sudden halt yesterday when a gentle 2 mph breeze wafted across his leg, shattering his femur in three places. "I knew it was broken right when that breeze hit me," said Griffey, who was walking from his sports therapist's office to his car in order to drive to his daughter's piano recital at the time of the injury. "These things just happen. If I would have known a breeze like that was coming, I never would have left the house." Reds manager Jerry Narron has stated that, upon Griffey's return to the Reds, he will be fitted with a personalized protective bubble to be worn for the remainder of the season. he seems to avoid september like the plague. i think he is an avid football fan and doesnt want pesky baseball getting in the way of nfl kickoff month...

i feel the same way junior.. the same way...

baseball should start in march and go thru august, thus once the superbowl rolls through baseball begins, then when it ends football preseason starts...

some baseball in the snow would be sweet.
