Offseason plan version 22.317

Re-sign
RB Cedric Benson - Played very well in the last few games and should be relatively cheap.
K Shayne Graham - I can't see him going elsewhere.
FS Chris Crocker - Veteran played well and will be cheap.
RT/OG Stacy Andrews - Should be cheap after his play this season and the injury. Still has tremendous upside though at guard.
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick - Cheap experienced back up.
SLB Rashad Jeanty (RFA) - Won't go anywhere else.
WLB Brandon Johnson (RFA) - Arguably the best linebacker on the team after Rivers went down.
MLB Corey Mays (RFA) - Good special teamer.
WR Glenn Holt (RFA) - Good return man when he holds on to the ball.

Release
LT Levi Jones - The line was much better when Collins was in. He just has not been the same since the injuries and isn't worth the salary.
SS Dexter Jackson - Always hurt, his backup is way better.
RB Kenny Watson - Getting old, can't seem to stay healthy lately.
RB Chris Perry - Perry was given the opportunity this season and failed miserably.

Free agents
C Brad Meester, Jaguars - I have them drafting a center but I think grabbing a vet to groom the young guy is a much smarter route to go.
RB Correll Buckhalter, Eagles - I think the 2009 Bengals will be a run first team. Buckhalter is a good change of pace back and receiver.
DT/DE Dwan Edwards, Ravens - Can play a number of positions on the line and is very good against the run.

Draft
1. RT Andre Smith, Alabama - Huge strong mauling run blocking tackle to complete the line overhaul. Pretty comparable player to Willie Anderson in his prime.
2. SLB Clay Matthews, Southern California - I love Matthews as a prospect. He can do everything: rush the passer, coverage, stop the run, and gives 110% on every down.
3. C Antoine Caldwell, Alabama - Young talented center to groom behind Meester.
4. DE Brandon Williams, Texas Tech - Pass rush specialist will help keep Odom and Geathers fresh.
4 (Comp). CB Keenan Lewis, Oregon State - Smart physical cover corner.
5. FB Tony Fiammeta, Syracuse - Great run blocking full back that also is a threat to catch the ball and won't eat himself out of the league.
6. RB Kory Sheets, Purdue - You can never have enough horses in the stable.
7. P Kevin Huber, Cincinnati - Larson was just flat out bad this season.

I don't think Caldwell will be there in the 3rd... I think Matthews may get picked before our 2nd comes up too.

I think that if we want Caldwell, we're going have to take him with our 2nd pick.

Oh yeah, Andre Smith... everything I read is saying he's in a league of his own. I don't know if he'll be there when we pick in the first.

I'll definitely take it though... I just don't think we'll end up with any of them... at least not in that order.

I really really doubt that 4 centers get taken in the first 70 picks, it's possible but there are just not many teams that need a center that badly.

I actually thought Matthews was a slight reach there.

Eh Andre Smith may or not be there I just have Monroe getting picked before him to the Rams because he's more of the prototype left tackle. I think one of the top two, Monroe or Andre Smith, will be there at 6.

There is very little here that I disagree with...And it holds to the form of the past 3-4 years.

I especially like the picks of C Caldwell and FB Fiammeta. Those are the two guys I'd like to see drafted in those areas of need.
Meester is smaller than Ghiaciuc. Will he be able to hold up against the AFCN NTs?

And what would releasing Levi do to our cap? I'd keep him around for another year even if only as a backup.
agreed. I would think if Levi can even remotely healthy, a hungry Levi with a chip on his shoulder on the bench is better than any other backup they could bring in.
