And he knows there are people who are calling him unmotivated and not engaged. The Bengals would like to thank them for motivating him.

"Does that motivate me? Yes it does. I want to prove the naysayers wrong," said Smith, before spending about 30 minutes of his lunch hour on a stair machine.

Under his weight and emboldened by how his foot feels, Smith stands to get another shot Sunday in his bid to win the right tackle job outright….

Wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has to get some of the credit for igniting this week's sellout with his offer to buy two tickets for the first 85 people that bought two or more. "Do I get a raise?" he asked...

After noting 36-year-old teammate Terrell Owens became the oldest man to have 200 yards receiving last Sunday in Cleveland, the 32-year-old Ocho says it gives him more inspiration to play at least that long. He thinks both he and Owens can "be like Brett. Play to 40, 41. As long as they allow us to keep playing because we'll catch balls and make some plays.

"In my 15[sup]th[/sup] year, I'll probably be within that same milestone," he said. "I don' think about it. I just continue to play and have fun...We're both alike. Completely different body styles, completely different builds. As far as taking care of the body, we're the same. I don't' drink. He doesn't drink. I don't smoke, he doesn't smoke. I take care of my body. Very few injuries (as he knocked on the wood of his locker)."

From Marvin's Press Conference yesterday ...

On Andre Smith’s progress:
“I think as the back of my shirt will say, ‘Work to do.’ He’s grown up a lot this year, and hopefully he continues to and work as a player and help make us a better football team -- keep working at it. Today’s another opportunity to get better. I like the positive steps he’s taken. I like how he’s grown up as a man and as a pro, and that’s a good thing. The team wants him to succeed; he has advocates who want to see him succeed.”

The stair machine(probably an elliptical) ? Thats the machine all the fat girls at the YMCA use. God I was hoping some psycho 2% body fat trainer was making him cry at this point.

I am not kidding about the fat girls and stair machine comment either. Go to any gym and the fat girls love to chill out, work the stairmaster/elipitical machine and BS for 40 minutes as 1 drop of sweat leaves their body. Ellipitical machines are the easiest device in the world to look like you are doing something and your really are not.

I worked out with a personal trainer a few weeks ago as a dare(good friend who has like 3% body fat), never lifted a weight over 25 lbs and wished a bolt of lightning would hit and kill me after 20 minutes. I felt like blood was squirting out of my pores. Fucking brutal. Dude called every machine with a motor a "rent payer" except the treadmill. Those are the machines that make lazy people think they are working out so they keep coming back. Seriously, a jump rope, push ups, and 20 lb dumbells had me crying for my mommy. It was bad. I was crying for my mommy.

If you have ever watched Biggest Loser they make them cry on the treadmill, not the elliptical.

Dude was the #6 pick in the draft. The fact we are hoping he becomes a "good" player is sad.

For normal people, I agree, but remember that Andre is 350 pounds. You don't want a 350 pounder putting any more stress on his knees than he needs to. I'm sure the Bengal trainers can give all of the linemen good solid workouts without grinding the crap out of their knees. Or I should say, I hope they can.

I'm not sure a regular diet of tread mill is a good regimen for a 350lb guy who had foot surgery this past off season....

We are talking about a young offensive lineman in the NFL. If he can't put stress on his knees at this age then we got ourselves a lemmon.

You don't have to run on the thing. Tape the ankle, put the elevation up to 8% and prepare to suck wind as you climb. I only mentioned the treadmill since it was the only electric device this trainer said was worth using. You simply can't fake it on a treadmill.

Again, this guy had me crying without a treadmill just by going quickly from one seemingly simple exercise to another until my body just said "what the fuck are you doing you fat ass!!!"

I question whether or not you guys have ever been on a stair machine. An elliptical is no stair machine. Ellipticals are low impact but you're right that they don't really seem to do much. Stair machines, however, are hell. Would you rather jog around central park or use the stairs in the empire state building?

I think it's a pretty big assumption that a professional sports franchise doesn't have trainers capable of such a feat... Something tells me that an NFL franchise is pretty clued into "physical fitness".

Some of it is on the player of course.. You can lead a horse to water and all that....

I have used a stair machine before. Pretty old school. You don't see them much anymore so my guess is it was an eliptical. Most reporters have never been in a modern gym so they just throw old terms out.

Dude, totally agree with you. I have now doubt the Bengals' trainging staff knows their shit. However, I also know that our #6 draft pick from last year is fighting for a starting spot as well. Gotta believe its all on Andre now. Right about the horse and water. Simple no excuses anymore. Time to play like one of the top draft choices in NFL history. #6 in any year is a HUGE DEAL.

It is huge... And as someone pointed out already.. Andre is the one guy on the roster that can really help turn this season around.. 1 or 2 bad linemen can be schemed around... 3 out of 5 linemen as a weakness is simply too much. If Andre can come in and raise the level of play at RT I think we will see substantial improvement in offensive production.

Actually, I would say no. Anytime Fitness and LA Fitness don't, at least the ones I have been in. All elipticals now. Our YMCA doesn't either. Tennis club does but few use them and they plan on replacing them.

Thats why he was drafted. If he were playing like a number 6 pick we would be talking way more about our D line not getting many sacks so far this year and Carson's arm would not even come up in conversation.

Agreed.. And it's the DL that really bothers me. I knew the OL would not be a strength this season... But I had hope that continued stout defense, and running game, combined with improved passing would elevate us to make a nice run...

I've belonged to LA Fitness, Urban Active, Fitworks and Lifetime fitness......all had at least 1 of those.

I bet if you looked around a bit, you'll find that the clubs you mentioned indeed have one still. It's actually a pretty good workout.

I agree. It's like 15-20 minutes in and no sweat. I can't go back to those after running etc, just feels like you aren't doing anything.
