Jamie_B
If he can regain his form this pitching staff could be nasty!! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5839593
Dontrelle Willis signs minor league deal Pitcher Dontrelle Willis has agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds. Willis, 28, is looking to resurrect a career that's fallen on hard times since he won 22 games and finished second in the National League Cy Young Award balloting with the Florida Marlins in 2005. The Marlins sent Willis to Detroit with Miguel Cabrera as part of an eight-player trade in December 2007. After signing a three-year, $29 million contract with the Tigers, Willis was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and suffered from an inability to throw strikes. The Tigers traded Willis to Arizona for pitcher Billy Buckner in June, but the Diamondbacks released him a month later. Willis hooked on briefly with the San Francisco Giants before hitting the open market as a free agent two weeks ago.
JBandJoeyV
Low risk, high reward. Cant imagine him starting though to begin the year. Maybe long relief.
BigDawgBengal
Not a bad pick up. Why not take a chance? I think the kid just has some mental issues to work out and he can be back to pitching to the way when he first came into the league. Hopefully Joey Votto can help him with the mental issues. JC
Sadly, this is the best signing we have had so far. Not too aggressive in the market which is sad because we are only a few pieces away from a pennant IMO. Need to get rid of Gomes as an everyday player. Too much of a liability out there in the field. I wish we would make a run at Carl Crawford. That would put us over the top in the division without a doubt.
JC
The Rangers snatched the Arthur Rhodes from us. I don't know much about MLB FA, why didn't we offer arbitration? Would that have been much more than he was really worth?
BigDawgBengal
The Rangers snatched the Arthur Rhodes from us. I don't know much about MLB FA, why didn't we offer arbitration? Would that have been much more than he was really worth?
To qualify for arbitration I believe you have to have more than three years of service and no more than six, so that is why arbitration was not offered to Rhodes. Kochman
Word from Reds camp Saturday, March 5, 2011 02:53 AM The Columbus Dispatch • Yesterday's game: Dontrelle Willis threw two perfect innings in relief to help the Reds to a 3-1 win over the Seattle Mariners. Kris Negron had a single, a stolen base, a run scored and a sacrifice fly for Cincinnati. • Today's game: vs. Los Angeles Dodgers, 3:10 p.m., Phoenix, Ariz. • Keep an eye on: Willis, a nonroster invitee to camp, threw 19 of his 24 pitches for strikes. The lefty's control has been terrible since Florida traded him in 2007 - 119 walks in 1131/3 major-league innings
. Hopefully he can keep his control and be a productive pitcher for us.
