Wilkerson waived

BY GEOFF HOBSON

Wilkerson
GEORGETOWN, Ky. - LSU center Ben Wilkerson couldn’t get on the field after the Bengals won a post-draft battle for his services and the club ended up releasing him Friday on the first day of training camp after he failed his physical.

Wilkerson, who shared the Rimington Award as the nation’s best center with Michigan’s David Baas, may have been the first center drafted if he hadn’t ripped the patella tendon in his kneecap Oct. 30. Instead, he went undrafted, and the Bengals won his services in negotiations even though at least one team offered more than the Bengals with an offer of $20,000 to sign, a huge amount for a college free agent.

With Wilkerson waived and fourth-rounder Eric Ghiaciuc holding out, veterans Rich Braham and Larry Moore, both coming off knee problems, are the only centers on the roster.

Yea isn't that interesting? That's why I didn't give him so much shit like everyone else. Notice how he WAS able to give us insider info and yet people still drove him off. <_<

And what's worse, this just leverages and empowers Gay-czek.

We could have waited a couple of days.

I wonder if he was disrupting camp, or has done something behind the scenes to earn the wrath of Marvin?

Methinks this wasn't a performance/physical issue - more like an attitude/behavioral one.

Do PUP players get Superbowl rings? What about practice squad guys? Oh well, Wilkerson won't find out this year!

If you read his original thread, he said Wilkerson had been cleared to play, then went backwards 3 days later.

Maybe he did have inside info....I dunno.

Someone could always PM him.

No one drove him off. Can't blame anyone for being a bit skeptical about that.

Attitude/behavioral issue?? I think not. The fact is the guy wasn't healthy nor was he going to be in the immediate future. For all of you who thought he was better than Ghiaciuc to begin with, realize there is a reason one was picked and the other was not. NatiKats was dead right. Everybody read Mark Curnutte or NFL draft countdown hype the guy up and thought that was gospel. Turned out that wasn't the case.

His "inside info" contradicted itself though...

First he said that Wilkerson was cleared to play and would be
out there at DAY 1...
By the way, Dan Bengals NJ it is clear you are unaware of how the PUP list actually works. First of all, the player has to be injured and physically unable to practice. Ben Wilkerson has been medically cleared by the doctors to practice and will be out there Day 1 in training camp (this eliminates him from being a PUP candidate). For those of you who think Chris Perry will be put on the IR or PUP-its not gonna happen. He has also been cleared to practice and play. Also, say we put Nate Webster on the PUP, if we do that when it comes time to take him off, we have to cut a man from our 53 man roster. Keep that in mind. Don't get me wrong, I am personally pulling for Wilkerson, hes an awesome guy and an excellent player-hes just up against great odds.
[post="119235"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Then yesterday he said it didn`t look good...but he never mentioned
him being waived...so take it with a pound of salt.
Doesn't look good as of recently. Bengals originally thought he would be ready for camp and that he was medically cleared. Looks like thats not the case anymore...
[post="120714"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
And if he doesn`t have thick enough skin to take people
being skeptical of him on an INTER-NET MESSAGE BOARD
then this definitely wasn`t the right place for him anyhow...

Well, Wilkerson wasn't put on PUP. I think he was saying something about the doctors cleared him to play. So that excuses the guy from PUP. Then he reports to camp and fails the physical, which means no PUP for him but instead, gets waived. At least that's what I'm getting from all of this.

Since when can someone not correct themselves?

And I can see why he got mad, he's got people on the outside of the organization arguing with him when he's connected to the inside. It's stupid. And when people are bringing up pre draft position rankings from magazines as a reason why someone will be good, I can understand why he thinks that fans are ign0rant.

The fans only know what they read, so that in effect makes us steelers suck ass.

But he still didn't have to call us that.

Edit: LOL what's up we can't say steelers suck ass?

Ack...i g n o r a n t....

Edit: Come on now I G N O R A N T ain't bad, just means uneducated about something, everyone on the damn planet is I G N O R A N T in some way about something.

Squeelers fans must have been throwing that word around too often....

Like I said...if his skin is so thin that he only lasted
from June 26th until now...and only have 31 post...well this

Now we are stuck with the damn Ghia-pet. Hopefully Braham can play another 14 seasons or so.

Nati Kats deserved everything he got. I never harped on him, but then all of a sudden he says I don't understand how the PUP works, and calls me out. Then the next second Hobson posts an article agreeing with my statement and says that Wilkerson might go on the PUP, which made him look like a total fool.

If he had any insider information, it wasn't very good. The last the thing I need to see is a guy who can dish a bunch of shit out, but can't handle it when someone dishes it back to them, when they are wrong.

Back to Wilkerson .....

Maybe we could trade Ghia-pet and a 3rd rounder for Spencer .....

The problem is.. people weren't just giving him a hard time because what he said about wilkerson, they were slamming him when he gave opinions on players saying stuff like

"If you think KKaes makes the team, you are definately not a coaches son" and other ignor-ant things like that.

The guy didn't come off as trying to act like he was the shiit or anything.. but he definately got pissed at the ignorance I think.

KK makes the team, BJ's just a hater. If he stuck around long enough he'd learn that.

Maybe they have him locked up in quarantine right now. Look for missing college seniors in the local newspaper... ;)

Maybe this is why Ghuichac (sp?) is holding out....Him and his agent probably knew this was gonna go down and are using it as leverage at the bargaining
table.....either way the guy needs to sign and get into camp ASAP....same
thing can be said for Pollack and Thurman.....Stop screwing around and get these guys in already.....if they holdout for the long haul whats our LB'ing corps gonna
consist of starter wise?

WLB Simmons
MLB Johnson
SLB ???????

Who is gonna play on the strong side???

Depth consist of injured players......

As for the Nati Kats guy....I never saw his post claiming to be a coach's son and
I think I only read like 1 or 2 of his posts.....so I could really care less but anyways....

I guess this is our first letdown of training camp.....lets hope there are NO OTHERS!!!!
WHODEY!
