September 9, 20231 yr Author comment_1715777 Some observations ... - He gets emotional and almost tears up when speaking about his time at Ohio State where he spent 3 years not getting to play. Perhaps every Bengal fan should send Urban Meyer a thank you card for being such an incompetent dumbass, that he created a fire inside Burrow to become the best QB of all time. - It is telling that he mentions how his new wealth will allow him to help a lot of people and "do a lot of good with that money". In fact, his parents spent today working with his charitable foundation to help feed people. You saw the same thing with his famous Heisman speech where he spoke about those from Athens who were hungry. - Zac's praise that Burrow "processes the whole picture and sees the entire field better than any (ever)" is perhaps the highest praise a coach could give to a player. It really shows how with Burrow his secret weapon is his mind and savant understanding of the game. - You can tell Burrow is still bothered by losing the High School state championship (when asked about it), the sign of a true competitor how much losing bothers him ... it's very Brady-esque in his obsessiveness. - He says he wants to hopefully work with the Brown family "a lot longer" than after this contract, which to me shows he wants to retire a Bengal. - His focus on enjoying who he works with and having fun and that time off the field and in the locker room matters to him most because it translates to on field success - I think helps explain why this lockeroom is so cohesive and drama free.

I saw the real Meyer at the Columbus bar, butt-fingering sorority girls while his Jags team all turned on him. His college teams won in spite of him on the field, based on the fact he's amazing at recruiting talent and bullshitting parents. But as a coach, nah.

I am only judging on-field performance. It does though, however go back to the old saying that “coaches are brilliant when their teams win…and idiots when they don’t” My relatives in the PHL area were convinced that Andy Reid was a complete moron while there..but now curiously wish they had him back.

Andy Reid is a great offensive mind no doubt, but it is interesting how much 'smarter' he looked once he got Patrick Mahomes. Look at Bill in NE, without Brady he looks much more like the Bill that coached the Browns then the one who built dynasties in Foxborough. The best coach in the world isn't winning with bad players, but the special coaches can at least hold serve and fulfill winning expectations with great players.

I think Meyer had a certain type of QB he wanted and Burrow didn’t fit the box. Besides, where was Tom Brady drafted? 😉
