It may be controversial and he is a nutcase now, but I still believe that in his early 20's in his prime Mike Tyson was the Best Boxer ever.... Before the Raping, face Tats, ear biting, etc..... There wasn't a human ever alive that could step in the ring and not get knocked out by him

My Choice. Love to watch him box. :)

I voted Tyson but all of these fighters are really good and they are all pretty much even.
I appreciate Ali for a good amount of his work outside of the ring....

However I think that a 22 Year old Tyson would knock Ali out by the 2nd round
Aaron Pryor!

Unfortunetely cocaine got the best of him but for sheer excitement there was no one even close, he was like a windmill from start to finish
I've never seen a boxer more dominant than the young Tyson.

If the vote was for "Best boxer over the course of his career", I would vote Ali.

I'm basing this on what I've seen.

I had to discount a number of the choices, since I've never seen them box.

I vote Ali
Floyd Patterson

Tyson's scheduled fights were so carefully selected to avoid too much competition at the outset of his career...he started to run into real fighters later in his career when he could no longer hide behind Don King's crafty matchmaking...

...beating a fat, 40 plus old former champ like Larry Holmes was not much of an accomplishment...it was kinda sad in fact.

Tyson beat the crap out of a series of nobodies like 15-20 times in a row before he fought anyone at his level.

Although it could be argued that at that time, there really WASN'T much quality competition in the heavyweight division.

God I hate Tyson...I always have...fucking ignorant, psychotic waste of air....
i voted for tyson too, but ive always like lenox lewis but there was never anyone close to his skill level in the past 10 years

A young Tyson is a close 2nd though.
Tyson had his big Break in the Olympic Trials where he kcnocked a guy out in 1 Punch.....

His opponents were the best at the time that the sport had to offer.... He just made them all look like chumps....

He intimidated professional fighters at a level that noone ever has....

You can hate the Man , but you can't knock the sheer punching power and ability to box in his prime
Everybody missing the boat on this one, Jack Johnson by far was the best boxer ever. Johnson fought 20-30 round fights, knocked out people and sterotypes, and paved the way for guys like Ali and Tyson.

Best Boxers pound for pound.

1. Jack Johnson
2. Muhammad Ali
3. Sugar Ray Robinson
4. Mike Tyson
5. Julio Ceasar Chavez
6. Rocky Maricano
7. Joe Louis
8. Roy Jones
9. Bernard Hopkins
10. Joe Frazier

The top 10 is very debatable but, Jack Johnson was by far the best ever, imo. Ali said on many occasions that he felt like he was possessed by the spirit of Johnson when he fought in the ring. Ken Burns did a great documentary on him called Unforgivable Blackness, it's a good story if you like boxing. Johnson was the first African American heavy weight champion, he dressed very sharp and even dated white women when some blacks were getting hung for trying to talk to white women. Johnson lived life to extreme and didn't apologize if you didn't like him, definitely the greatest of all time.

Unforgivable Blackness If you haven't seen it, you're missing out.
Not even close Rocky Marciano!
Record: Won 49, Lost 0, 43 KO's.

I wanna know why Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini isn't on the list?!
You have to remember also Rocky fought at a time where Blacks weren't really allowed in the sport and the boxers were puny by todays standards.... Rocky had great heart but would be destroyed by Tyson in the 1st round
I didn't realize we were talking about the best "pound-for-pound" boxer.

In that case, I nominate this guy.
