some things I've noticed: Jason Smith, Eugene Monroe, Jeremy Maclin, and Knowshon Moreno (and assumably Beanie Wells) are all guys who we have private workouts set up for, and also visited their pro days.

also caught this nugget in a piece about Monroe:
Virginia OT Eugene Monroe, whom Pat Kirwan projects to be the top pick in next month’s NFL Draft, had a solid workout today in Charlottesville.

The 6-foot-5 3/8, 312-pounder kept all of his workout numbers from the combine, but he did position drills and looked very good. Cincinnati Bengals offensive line coach Paul Alexander, who has been everywhere there has been a tackle, orchestrated the position drills, and two other o-line coaches also were in attendance.
also on Moreno:
Bengals running backs coach Jim Anderson spent a great deal of time working out Moreno.
Kevin Huber, and I hope and pray the Bengals get him.

McCoy Makes The Rounds
Posted by Mike Florio on March 26, 2009, 7:33 p.m. EDT
Former Pitt tailback LeSean McCoy, who left school with two seasons of eligibility remaining, is getting special attention from several teams.

Per a league source, McCoy has had private workouts with the Broncos, Eagles, and Bengals.

McCoy had a so-so Pro Day workout earlier this month. And he was candid about it.

“I don’t think I blew out anybody with the way I performed,” McCoy said. “I’ll be honest with you; I wouldn’t say that. But I think I did fairly well. I think they were more impressed with my strength. As far as a running back, I think everybody knew I could catch the ball, I could run and I could cut.

“I wanted to blow out my 40, which I didn’t.”

McCoy ran the 40 in the 4.5-second range. He wasn’t able to work out at the Scouting Combine in February because he was ill.

Oh man. I would love to have McCoy on this team. He's the perfect compliment to Benson.
* The Bengals and the Rams have both shown a "tremendous amount of interest" in former Auburn guard Tyronne Green. He has already been on visits - or has visits scheduled - with ten teams: Bengals, Rams, Chargers, Ravens, Rams, Bills, Falcons, Seahawks, Steelers and the Chiefs.
I noticed on NFL Network video that the guy taking Brian Orapko through workouts at the U-T Pro Day was none other than our own DL coach, Jay Hayes. I think he's a very strong consideration at #6, since he can line up with his hand on the ground, or also play standing up - and both Zimmer and ML have consistently mentioned needing a pressure player on D...

Also, as 1181 mentioned, Donald Brown (U Conn RB) is coming for a personal visit. I heard him interviewed on NFL-N, and he indicated that, along with a few other teams. Also, since the Bengals coached him at the Sr. Bowl, another U Conn guy to consider is Darius Butler, a CB who's shooting up the charts. He played well at the Sr. Bowl, and reportedly had a stellar workout, too.

I just can't see the point of taking a RB before our comp. 3rd pick with such a deep RB class and already having a starter in Benson. There will be some very good backs in the late 3rd/early 4th of this draft.

I can if you think he is going to be a game breaker.....just about every playoff team last year had two good RB's....right now we only have one.

I think you can find a gamebreaker like j.johnson, goodson, or someone else in the 3rd or 4th round.

I'm sorry but we will differ on this considerably.

Donald Brown and Shady McCoy are so far ahead of guys like Johnson and Goodson.

Johnson is small and slow, not a good combo. He played in the Oregon spread and at no point in his career was he the best back on his team (Stewart and Blount) He was worse at his pro day than at the combine. Goodson has some wiggle but never ran for more than 800 yards in a season. He's a nice player but Brown and McCoy are late first early 2nd guys. I cant see the other two going before round 4. Brown and MCoy have been massive producers and I'm more interested in getting the best player over finding a change of pass guy. I would rather have Shonn Green, Andre Brown or Rashad Jennings then Johnson or Goodson. Its just personal opinion and its like comparing hot chicks, to each there own, but I am just not impressed with those two.

Just for reference and its not the end all be all but nfldraftcountdown has McCoy 3rd and Brown 4th while Goodson is 8th and Johnson is 11th. Goodson's size and speed is ok with me but Johnson's is not. 5'8", 209 and 4.67. IMO 40 times isnt a huge deal but 4.67 is slow as shit. He's tore his ACL once and has shoulder problems.

I am pretty convinced if Brown is there we will take him. There is no way 11 guys make this team so I see no way we use 11 picks. IMO we will trade back into the first round to secure a RB or a C or possibly stand pat and then trade into the 2nd to get what we want. I feel at most we make 9 selections.

Now to the original reason I jumped on here......

Temple’s Knighton Gaining Attention Of NFL Scouts
Posted by Aaron Wilson on March 28, 2009, 12:42 p.m.
Big Temple defensive tackle Terrance Knighton had an impressive workout at his campus Pro Day with several NFL defensive line coaches in attendance, according to Gil Brandt of NFL.com.

The 6′3″, 317-pound lineman ran the 40-yard dash in 4.93 seconds and registered a 29-inch vertical leap. Knighton improved upon his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine where he ran the 40-yard dash in 5.21 seconds.

With Cincinnati Bengals defensive line coach Jay Hayes, Cleveland Browns defensive line coach Bryan Cox as well as coaches from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Denver Broncos watching, Knighton also had a 8-9 broad jump.

He bench pressed 225 pounds only 21 times, though.

Knighton recorded 54 tackles last season as well as 7 1/2 tackles for losses and blocked the fourth kick of his career in a game against Navy.

I'm not arguing that at all, but is one of the top 3 centers and mike goodson better than Donald brown and a 3rd or 4th round center? It may be.

I'm not saying Brown and McCoy wouldn't be very good RB's, but is the #2 RB position important enough to pass on a highly rated center or linebacker? Or even if say Michael Johnson is still there (which I don't think he will), I'd take him over Brown or McCoy.

Personally I would rather have Brown and Antonie Caldwell than Mack and Goodson but thats just me. I think we could get Caldwell with our comp 3rd and squeeze a DE/OLB in between.

I think Johnson is there for us at 38 but if Mack, Brown, and McCoy are there also it could be interesting but thats not exactly a terrible problem to have
Ohio State’s Wells To Visit Several NFL Teams
Posted by Aaron Wilson on March 28, 2009, 3:07 p.m.
Ohio State star running back Chris “Beanie” Wells is scheduled to visit multiple NFL teams over the next few weeks, according to a league source.

Among the visits Wells currently has planned: the Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals, San Diego Chargers and the Seattle Seahawks.

Wells was clocked between 4.38 and 4.44 seconds in the 40-yard dash at his campus Pro Day, impressing NFL scouts with his size-speed ratio at 6-foot-1, 235 pounds. Wells told Ohio reporters following the workout that some teams timed him as fast as 4.34 seconds.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, Wells registered a 33 1/2 inch vertical leap and bench pressed 225 pounds 25 times.

In three seasons for the Buckeyes, the All-Big Ten Conference running back rushed for 3,382 yards and scored 30 touchdowns. The Akron native was twice named the Buckeyes’ Most Valuable Player
I wouldn't mind Caldwell, but you'd be taking an awfully big risk still hoping he's there at the end of the 3rd.
np. I take it you were the one doing it previous years?
Two years ago I did. BZ beat me to the punch last year, but he did a great job keeping it organized. I would usually do some analysis. Like tracking who is available throughout the year as cuts and undrafted free agents. I used to do it at the Huddles (you know, back in the day). I think it's really useful, and pretty reliable.

If my memory serves me right, we usually have over 100 listings, we draft 3-4, and pick up another 2-3 undrafter/cuts, and usually there are only 7-8 left available at any given time.

regarding Tyrone Green:
Scouts compare Green to former Auburn standout Ben Grubbs (Baltimore), as he has great athletic ability and outstanding suddenness coming off the snap. Even though he never started at the position, the coaching staff experimented with Green at center in 2008 fall camp. He showed the quick hands and head-on-the-swivel agility that could see him possibly shift to the pivot position in the National Football League.
watched some tape of him. He reminds me of a shorter Steinbach. Looks like a very good pulling LG, and maybe even a center?
