Bengals1181
Something I read earlier made me ponder this question: If the Penn State scandal happens first, does Jim Tressel still lose his job considering his mistakes were far less egregious? |Elflocko|
Yes. If for no other reason than sheer stupidity...
Jamie_B
Yes. Rule violations, while not as serious as Penn state are one thing, covering up was his problem.
MichaelWeston
If Urban Meyer was not available does Jim Tressell get fired? Gene Smith certainly does not seem remorseful. The fans still love Tressell. Urban had already decided to take the year off a that time. Maybe the idea was floated even before he was dropped.
I wouldnt be surprised if they have been thinking since Urban left Florida that he might be our next coach if something were to happen to Tress. With that being said, I dont think that came into consideration when they fired Tressel. Just my opinion though.
Vol_Bengal
Yes. Both lied about covering up infractions. One did it blatantly to the NCAA, the other did it to the school and the NCAA not so blatantly. You lie, you get caught, you pay the price. If they'd owned up to the infractions immediately, taken the punishments, both would still be coaching where they were.
