Drew Sample = Tyler Higbee in this offense. The thing we have to remember is this won't be EXACTLY like the Ram's offense. Will a lot of the concepts be the same? Probably. We have totally different personnel and if we have a threat at TE, they'll use him that way. We've got other offensive minds on this staff other than Taylor and they'll all have some sort of input. IMO, in this offense, Tyler Eifert will just be an oversized WR that gets used to create mismatches. Sample will be the traditional TE. when Eifert goes down with another injury, CJ can slide into his role.
T-Dub
Said the same in another thread, but maybe this guy lines up at FB sometimes, in shotgun or as protect on punt teams. I suspect he has better hands, radius, speed, mustard distance or something that makes him more than just a blocking TE.
|High School Harry|
Jake Fisher is now available. Buffalo just cut him. And... he should stay available for quite awhile. Maybe someone will pick him up during the season as an emergency back up when injuries start piling up.

Uzomah will be used more as a receiver and Sample more as a blocker. Not counting on Eifert to stay healthy and we have options if/when he can't go. Sounds like we need 4 TE's, if Uzomah is the only all-purpose one y'know?

I think Sample will be the "all-purpose" guy when it's all said and done...just because he didn't catch a bunch of passes in college, that doesn't mean he's incapable of it.. Uzomah stayed relatively healthy last year while Eifert and Kroft were injured. He's capable of doing the job and I think the Bengals believe that Sample can develop into a complete TE. He didn't get many chances at Washington but it wasn't like he didn't run routes. Browning just never threw him the ball. He displayed good hands in his limited chances and he tested well athletically at the combine. Obviously his blocking ability is his strength at this point but he has room to grow as a receiver.
