Reds win 3-1 ..

Andrew Abbott has been a savior to the rotation.

Sims, Weaver and Diaz shut it out.

Rubber match tomorrow with Luke Weaver starting so the bats better come to life to win this series..

I'd be real hesitant to give up much for a half-season rental pitcher with the team just becoming relevant again. They need to continue building for the long term, not sweating this season.

That's the concern for me too. I would guess the status of Greene and Lodolo will tell them which way they should go with it. Abbot being the only guy they can count on will not get them in the playoffs this year. It may very well be Joey's final year as a Red as well, would be nice to send him off a winner.

Even if Greene and Lodolo are able to come back, adding a 4th guy to the rotation needs to happen.

I think I build this team around Abbot/Greene (since they already signed him) De La Cruiz, McClain and Diaz.

Keep those guys here long term. As much as I love India I think putting De La Cruiz and McClain between bases is the future.

Sims struggled with control but kept them scoreless.

Farmer next..

Rain delay..

My niece was at the game last night and posted a picture of the rain delay on Facebook. It looked like it was really coming down.

A starting pitcher for the future..

Not a half season rental..

Agree..Marti is another SS/3B top prospect..

Encarnacion-Strand's futute is at 1st.

Steer Friedl and Fraley is a competent

OF..

Acquire a starter with this group is essential to win the Central..

Reds score 3 in first..

Orioles are hitting what strikes Weaver pitches hard..

Its like BP for Baltimore..

4-3 Orioles after 1.

Weaver threw 41 pitches..

The question then becomes who can they spare that's any good?

l I'd think a package for a good starting pitcher without an overload contract.

2 or 3 year contract friendly has to be considered with the team.

The package will be determined by Nick Krall..

Yeah I'm wondering where they might have a logjam, usually it's an infielder. Someone that'd be starting if they had a less talented guy ahead of them. Move the hot bat at a premium and bring up the rookie.

With Encarnacion-Strand and Marti about to come up  any trade package is possible .

Its what Nick Krall deems best for now and the future.

Reds are 43-38 and 1st place at half.

Timely hitting with some power, defense and solid base running have led to being on top..

Back 3 in bullpen has been commendable as well..

David Bell has done a remarkable job as manager up to now..

2nd half of season should be a nail biter in every series..

That's a good Os team that we took the series against. Losing to the Braves each game by only a point is respectable as they are the best team in the NL, maybe all of the league, imo

Soft few games till we see Mil and can hopefully extend this lead

Agree..

San Diego has slumped.

Lost 8 of 10 and 5 in a row..

Tatis Machado Bogarts and Soto

are having mediocre years and its hurt the offense severely..

2 of 3 seems likey with a sweep in mind....

I think a sweep of SD and Wash is possible. Going into the Mil series hopefully with a multigame lead. That series before the break and again after the break will be a big test for this team as far as can we win the division.

Reds staying with Votto despite hitting 185..

They probably would've moved him 5 years ago if he didn't have a no-trade clause in the contract.  Votto's great (or more like was great) but it's weird how they kind of expected him to carry the entire team at times.
