He sat out because he was upset he didn't get something that he now claims he never asked for in the first place.

Maybe, before sitting out of training camp, he should've asked?  One call to his agent to get the ball rolling?

This seems like basic, good faith negotiation to me.  You don't sit back and wait for someone else to take the initiative then get mad when they don't do what you wanted.

Am I missing something?  I agree they should pay him but why go directly to the dramatic?

The impression I got was the Bengals offers we're not initially close, it really wasn't until the final weeks where he was asked about it and he said "they are starting to get serious" (paraphrasing). I wouldn't be surprised if they thought they were going to get him cheaper because they were making an offer a year early, they should have known better honestly.  It makes good sense to secure him earlier if you can because each year the price goes up, they just should have realized they were going to have to pay him the most this year, but in 2-3 years it would have been a bargain. I suspect he's going to cost them more this offseason than he would have last one if they had just paid him what he was looking for then. Because this year he is very likely going to have the "tipple crown" making him that much more expensive.

I can't shake the feeling they're going to keep fucking around and end up using a franchise tag & turn this into a 3-ring circus... But Im still digesting the pingpong tables and not feeling very optimistic.

This year is year 4 right? They extended his option so next year is year 5. Tag could come in 2 years?

I have to think they get it done this year, they were close this past offseason.

Joe is Mikey's favorite toy and Chase is Joe's favorite toy...it will get done as the team will bend the knee to the new world of guaranteed monies in contrcats of eleite players

Another instance of the Brown Family being cheap. They wheeled out the old ping pong tables when the players really wanted a bouncy castle and pony rides. The Bengals are still the only team in the AFC north that does not have a covered pillow fort in winter. If it wasn't for the chocolate fountain, we probably wouldn't have won 4 games.

Too funny. I just posted about using a bouncy castle in the other thread and didn't even see this til just now. Gotta laugh about it all, or it would just be too depressing.

Technically every practice area is covered with something - dirt, tears, lost hopes...
