|Montana Bengal|
I'm not going to mention which brand, but a professor I know brought me back some Cincy chili (he loves it himself). Tonight was the first time I've actually had the 'authentic' stuff. Anyway, up until this point I've only had what we've made from scratch...so I had nothing to compare it to. It was awesome and what we've made is very close. Mmmm Chili....to bad that they don't allow franchises out of the region.
MULLY
Only problem is that even if you get the real stuff in a can it doesn't even come close to getting it fresh at the shop so, in a sense, you still haven't had the real thing. Every time I go home I bring back the powder packs of Skyline or cans of Gold Star and even though they help in a pinch, there's something missing. The hot dogs and spaghetti are not even close to what you get at the store. I know, I know, the dogs are eyeballs and assholes, but there's something about the real thing that a copy just can't do away with. MULLY still envy you though because my stash ran out a long time ago

I actually checked Goldstar and Skyline and the both had something strange about franchising limitations. I prefer sharp cheddar (if possible Tillamook). Dubliner is pretty tasty on it as well. |Bunghole|
The thing about Coneys at the locations that gets me is the texture of the grated cheese. It's real soft and pillowy, which suits a chili dog well and allows them to pile it to ridiculously high levels. That's hard to reproduce at home, especially when you opt for sharper cheddars, which are more granular and don't grate the same as softer, milder cheddars like what they use at the stores. I agree that sharp cheddar tastes a lot better though.

There are 2 or 3 Skyline's in Florida. It's just that the number of people from Cincy outside of Cincy with the money to open a franchise is so few. |Montana Bengal|
I don't doubt that they are elsewhere, just going with what the site states. Actium
I made some Cincy Chili yesterday (spice pack!). I actually did the proportions right! Although I had to let it simmer for an hour and a half because I had the heat on too low. It tasted good though!
