!!! THE OFFICIAL STEALERS @ BENGALS GAME THREAD !!!

Recommended Posts

I don't care if we win another game all season,
well, actually that`s not true. Anyway, a win today
over our hated rivals, would make the pain that this
season has caused, a little easier to tolerate.

Give us some medicine Marvin and Company !!!

NOTEWORTHY
The only time the Bengals beat the Steelers in OT came at PBS in overtime on Dec. 30, 2001. Five years and a day later Pittsburgh won again in OT to knock the Bengals out of the playoffs. Those are two of the three OT games in PBS history. Tampa Bay won the other one on Dec. 2, 2001 ... Rookie WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh had breakout game in that '01 win over the Steelers with 98 yards on nine catches. He had come into the game with 12 catches for 130 ... Chad Ocho Cinco is looking for his first touchdown against the Steelers since Nov. 21, 2004. Since then Houshmandzadeh (six) and Chris Henry (three) have scored nine ... In the stretch that Steelers running back Willie Parker has racked up four 100-yard games against the Bengals starting on Oct. 23, 2005, the Bengals have had no 100-yard rushers against Pittsburgh. Rudi Johnson, with 123 yards on 24 carries in a 28-17 loss on Oct. 3, 2004, is the last one ... Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is 10-0 in Ohio despite getting sacked seven times in his PBS debut in 2004 ... The Bengals have five sacks in six games this season ... One starter, defensive tackle John Thornton, is left on the Bengals defense from that '04 game.

NFL RANKINGS

LAST TIME THEY MET...

December 2, 2007 - The Bengals are supposed to have one of the NFL's most dangerous offenses but after scoring on the first drive of Sunday night's game it had no answers against the Steelers' top-ranked defense in a 24-10 loss at soggy Heinz Field. The 10 points scored by the Bengals were their fewest since the 2005 season finale when they managed just three in a 37-3 loss at Kansas City. "Our offense as a unit feels terrible," quarterback Carson Palmer said. "The defense kept giving us opportunities. I failed to make the adjustments and put more air under the ball in knowing and expecting and thinking (Chad Johnson) would be a little slower in getting out his breaks than normal."
Graham out; Benson starts
By GEOFF HOBSON
October 19, 2008

Shayne Graham won't kick for the second week in a row and running back Cedric Benson drew his first Bengals start according to Marvin Lewis' pre-game inactive sheet.

Also down for the Bengals is wide receiver Glenn Holt (ankle), meaning that rookie receiver Andre Caldwell prepared to make his NFL debut and do it returning kicks.

Safety Dexter Jackson returned to the lineup for the first time since breaking a thumb in the opener and moved to free safety in place of Marvin White and opposite strong safety Chinedum Ndukwe. White, the second-year player out of Texas Christian, has started all six games at free and came up with his first NFL interception last week against Jets quarterback Brett Favre. But the Bengals are apparenlty seeking more secondary seasoning in an effort to cut down on big plays, particulalry on third down.
Hobson updated it a little . . .
Graham (groin) said Friday he didn't want to leave his team short if he couldn't kick at 100 percent, so Dave Rayner got the call for the second straight game. This time the duty is a little bit easier because he's had the entire week to work with holder Kyle Larson and long snapper Brad St. Louis. He kicked two extra points last week against the Jets and had no field-goal tries.

For his career, Rayner is 13-for-19 from both 30-39 yards and 40-49 yards and 1-for-5 from 50 and beyond. He's missed only one of 15 field-goal tries from inside the 30 and missed one of 46 extra-point tries. Three of his field-goal attempts have been blocked.

Pregame: Bengals-Steelers 10.19
Sunday, October 19, 2008, 11:38 AM EST [Bengals]

Inactives for the day: Carson Palmer is the third QB, also WR Glenn Holt, K Shayne Graham, CB Jamar Fletcher, LB Corey Mays, TE Ben Utecht, DT Orien Harris and DT Jason Shirley.

Cedric Benson starts for Chris Perry at HB

Andre Caldwell to return kicks for Holt

Dexter Jackson starts at free safety, Chinedum Ndukwe at strong.

Is it rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, or do you expect some improvements? How many snaps you think Pat Sims gets vs. John Thornton at DT? How about snaps by Jackson vs. Marvin White at S?

Inactives for the Steelers: QB Dennis Dixon (3rd QB), RB Carey Davis, RB Willie Parker, LB Keyaron Fox, OT Tony Hills, OT Marvel Smith, WR Dallas Parker, DT Casey Hampton.

Max Starks starts at LT in Smith's place, Mewelde Moore at RB in place of Willie Parker, Najeh "Duece" Davenport starts at FB in the place of Carey Davis, Chris Hoke will start at NT in place of Hampton, Bryant McFadden starts at RCB in the place of Deshea Townsend.
not surprised by JT, but IMO Utecht should have gotten the nod over DJAX. As it is, Simpson got the nod over Utecht.
