How do I get a job in Congress?

sois

Recommended Posts

I have decided I need one of these jobs. How do I get one? Nobody seems to know anything about anything and yet, they get elected. How can I accomplish this?

I am 100% serious. I have a degree, I am not in trouble with the law, I don't drink or smoke, I am not rich, I am 29 and am ready to make $$$ for doing a poor job.

My Competition:

Senator Harry Reid - Lawyer by trade. He is old, by the time I am ready to be a Senator he will be gone.
Senator John Ensign - Qualifications is that he is a vet. Seriously.
Rep Jon Porter - Insurance salesman.

I can hang with those qualifications.

Try to get on someone's staff. Be prepared to work 12+ hour days and to be on call 24/7. If you are lucky enough to work in DC, expect to pay high rentals and other living expenses on a smallish salary. Learn to suck up to folks and get really good at telling white lies. Know that your steps up the ladder will be vetted by folks who can end your career in a single moment.

Or you can go the fast route: invest a couple million of your own dollars and run for election.

I don't want to do and of that worthless and pointless stuff. I want people to vote for me because I'm not an idiot. I will not waste time doing stupid things. I will not require donations. I just need to get on a ballot. If a rich veterinarian can do it, why can't I?

In actuality, you'd be best served by starting on a small scale.

School board, a township trustee, parks and rec board, city council, (around heree ven a deacon type position in a church would work) etc.

Those can be done with a small group of friends/supportors and a few thousand dollars.

Then you parlay those experiences and name recognition into County commissioner, State House Reps, and on up.

I was just reading through my gov't book for my upcoming exam and it said the average cost for the campaign for a winner is 1.1 million for a seat in the house. I think it said 7.7 million for Senate.

Good luck!

It's all just amazing. I wonder what the expiration date on this democracy is.

Hmmm, this lady is getting some good press by simply asking to be appointed to the senate, despite having no qualifications. I should have thought of that.

Yeah I hate political nepotism.
