Looks like I'm not the only one that thinks the Bengals need a pass rusher in the 1st...

Bearcats CB . . .

There’s a Grand Canyon of a gap between Sam Bradford and Brad Jones in one aspect of the NFL draft.

Bradford is the likely No. 1 overall pick. Jones once intercepted a Bradford pass.

That doesn’t make Jones’ dream any smaller than Bradford’s. He is the latest prospect to have played high school football next to the Pro Football Hall of Fame with a serious shot at pro football.

NFL.com draft guru Gil Brandt said Jones had “an outstanding workout” at the University of Cincinnati pro day. Brandt nodded to the Bearcats’ big names, quarterback Tony Pike and wideout Marty Gilyard, but added, “It was Jones who really used the opportunity to vault himself.”

Jones played for a McKinley team that reached a state title game and then spent four years at Cincinnati overshadowed by a secondary that has produced six picks in recent NFL drafts.

He broke through as a starter and co-captain as a fifth-year senior in 2009, on a team that went 12-1.

“I think I played very well,” Jones said of his 2009 season. “I didn’t give up a touchdown all year.

“I’m way confident. I know I have the ability to compete and to play.”

The Bengals are among teams that have nosed around Jones since the pro day. He has gained insight into the NFL from a cousin, former McKinley All-Ohioan Mike Doss, who played a few games for the Bengals in 2008.

“We hung out frequently when Mike was down here,” Jones said Monday from Cincinnati. “I got a good perspective of the NFL from Mike.”

somebody in that secondary sure gave up TDs...by the bunches. it seemed like every game the bearcats played in was a 50x50 shootout.

RB Nick Booth

College stats: Booth had just 51 carries for 209 yards over two seasons, but scored three touchdowns.

What he's hearing: Booth has talked at length with the Seahawks, and has been e-mailing with the Bears. The Bengals are also interested in him as a late-round selection.

"If there was a round, it'd be seventh round - maybe late-sixth - or a free agent spot," he said.

If not … Booth said he will pursue other professional leagues, including the upstart UFL, if he doesn't latch on with an NFL team. Booth is on track to graduate in December with a degree in sociology, but his passion is business. Eventually, Booth said, he wants to open a sports bar or nightclub.

 • 1 year later...
looking back, 4 of the 9 players drafted appear on this list. The list doesn't show the Bengals attending the Georgia pro day, but I'd be shocked if they didn't. So basically 5 guys from this list.

Gresham
Dunlap
Shipley
Muckelroy
Atkins*

Not on list:

Ghee
Hudson
Briscoe
Stephens

Its interesting to see that guys not on the lists like Ghee-Moch and Sands....the guys that we seemingly draft more for their potential then their polish-have taken longer (I guess thats a bit much to say since its only been a year) to contribute.
true, though it may not mean anything. It's not an all-inclusive list of pro days they went to or guys they talked to at the combine. Just the ones that are announced. For example, in the other thread Whalen doesn't show up, but Urban said the other day he talked to whalen at the combine.
