One man was the star of the show at the University of Louisiana Lafayette's pro day on March 16. Representatives from 20 NFL teams, including defensive line coaches from the Saints, Rams and Bengals, saw seven athletes perform, but their gaze was fixed on defensive lineman Hall Davis.

The 6-foot-4 1/8, 270-pounder ran a 4.89 in his first 40-yard dash, then pulled up with a left hamstring injury about 30 yards into his second run (He has the same problem at the combine). But Davis pushed on, finishing each discipline before doing position drills.

He had a 34.5-inch vertical leap, 9-6 broad jump, 4.63 short shuttle, 7.53 three-cone drill and 27 bench press repetitions of 225 pounds.
Owusu-Ansah built on his solid NFL Scouting Combine workout with an outstanding pro day. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.33 and 4.41 seconds, had a 4.19-second short shuttle and did 21 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds. He stayed afterwards to run drills with Bengals defensive backs coach Kevin Coyle, and two other teams were also there to work him out.
As far as Barnes and Sheehan go,

Barnes would be a great get he is athletic and strong and has very good hands. He would be a great 4th or 5th wideout if not more. Consider this. He broke the single season record for catches in 2009 after starting the first game at QB in 2007. He is still basically learning the position and could be used on teams and in the wildcat very easily.

Sheehan is a very average QB prospect. BG has been spoiled with 3 great Qbs in a row and I am pretty sure he is the worst of the three. He is big and has a decent arm and is mobile but despite his stats he never was that great at the school. He is camp fodder at best IMO.

Stanford
Tight end Jimmy Dray ran his forty’s in times of 4.78-to-4.82 seconds, posted a vertical jump of 34 inches, a broad of 9’ 5’’, completed 19 reps on the bench. His three cone time was 7.07 seconds while his short shuttle was 4.30-seconds. Sources from the Cincinnati Bengal scouting department spoke highly of Dray’s pass catching workout.
Toby Gerhart's credentials as a power back are pretty much beyond debate. And after being timed in the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, he feels he put to rest any concerns about his speed.

On Thursday he took part in Pro Timing Day at Stanford, another session in front of representatives from all 32 NFL teams in an attempt to prove that he's the total package.

Hands were the issue this time.

"I didn't catch a whole lot of passes at Stanford," Gerhart said. "There were questions about my pass-catching ability. It's a big thing in the NFL, being able to catch balls coming out of the backfield. I wanted to show I can catch the ball."

So Gerhart went through a series of drills designed to illustrate his pass-catching skills. He ran the kind of short routes expected out of NFL running backs, catching passes thrown by former Stanford quarterback Tavita Pritchard. And he went through specialized drills conducted by longtime Cincinnati Bengals running-backs coach Jim Anderson, having balls fired at him in rapid succession from short distances as he moved laterally.

"I think it went well," Gerhart said. "I dropped one ball, which got me mad. But I think I showed I can run and catch it."

I think Gerhart could play fullback. He's a little bigger (not much but a little) than Leonard and would be able to get on the field more as the fullback than as the backup running back. Imagine Benson and Gerhart coming out in a two-back formation. Now you don't have to worry much about Ced lead blocking but you always have to worry about Gerhart taking the handoff or splitting out for a dump pass. Leonard would be pretty good in the role too though, maybe a little better blocker, so I guess it's a win-win. I mentioned it in another thread too but if the Bengals did take Gerhart I would hope to see some Lombardi power sweep put to use. With the way defensive tackles have ballooned since those days I could see it work even more effectively since you'd have to worry less about sealing off the fattys on the line and could pull an extra blocker to take out a linebacker or safety, as long as your running back can outrun a 320 pound tackle that is.
In a draft loaded with elite defensive tackle prospects, don’t forget Louisiana Tech’s D’Anthony Smith. While not likely to go in the first round, Smith is generating significant interest from personnel evaluators.

Full Itinerary For Idaho Guard
by Chris Steuber of ScoutNFLNetwork.com, March 21, 2010 at 2:52pm ET

Mike Iupati Profile

The premier interior offensive lineman in the draft, Idaho guard Mike Iupati, continues his ascension up NFL draft boards, and his itinerary over the next month reflects his stature - completely full. Scout.com has learned through a source close to the program that Iupati has worked out and will workout for the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles this month.

In addition to his workout schedule, Scout.com has also learned from the same source that Iupati is expected to visit the Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers leading up to the draft on April 22nd.

A three-year starter at Idaho, Iupati has improved each year and has developed into the highly touted prospect he is today. Scouts are enthusiastic about his ability and believe he can play OT or OG at the next level. The versatility that he presents, to go along with the strong showing that he's had this offseason, makes Iupati a valuable commodity and it's likely that he could hear his name called in the 16 – 23 range.

Iupati is currently the No. 1 rated offensive guard listed on Scout.com's 2010 NFL Draft Rankings.

Bengals To Workout Local QB
by Chris Steuber of ScoutNFLNetwork.com,
March 22, 2010 at 11:14am ET

Dominic Randolph Profile

Beyond Carson Palmer, the Cincinnati Bengals don't have much security at quarterback; journeyman J.T. O'Sullivan and Carson's younger brother, Jordan Palmer, complete the depth chart. While drafting a quarterback high in the draft isn't necessary, there's a chance that the Bengals decide to select a developmental signal caller in the mid-to-late rounds this April. A possible late round pick for the Bengals could be a Cincinnati native; Scout.com has learned that the Bengals will host Holy Cross quarterback Dominic Randolph in Cincinnati for a workout on April 13th.

The workout on the 13th will also include other local draft prospects.

A four-year starter at Holy Cross, Randolph finished his career with the Crusaders throwing for 13,455 yards, which ranks fourth all-time in Football Championship Subdivision history, 117 touchdowns and 46 interceptions in 43 games. At 6-foot-2, 224 pounds, Randolph wasn't invited to the Scouting Combine, but participated in Boston College's Pro Day on March 11th and had a solid performance throwing the ball. But he failed to show scouts his athleticism and wasn't very explosive. Randolph was timed at a 4.99 in the 40, and recorded average numbers in the vertical jump (31.5) and broad jump (9'1"). He will try to improve his numbers at Massachusetts Pro Day on March 25th, where he's expected to go through a full workout. Randolph is currently the 22nd rated quarterback listed on Scout.com's 2010 NFL Draft Rankings.

Fifteen team representatives, including receiver coaches from the Lions and Bengals showed up to Bowling Green's pro day on March 16.

Why? To watch Freddie Barnes. The receiver led the nation with 155 catches in 2009, and that production attracts interest.

Barnes (6-foot, 215 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.67 and 4.70 seconds, had a 30 1/2-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 11-inch broad jump, a 4.55-second short shuttle, a 7.16-second three-cone drill and did 12 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.

Freddie Barnes had 155 catches this year. 15 teams, including the Lions and Bengals receiver coaches.

Barnes worked out for about 45 minutes. 6-foot, 215. 4.67 and 4.70 in the 40. 30 1/2-vert. 8-11 broad. 4.55 short. 7.16 cone. 12 bench presses.

Bowling Green QB Tyler Sheehan was his quarterback, as he worked out for about 45 minutes doing position drills.
Miami (Ohio)

One team, the Cincinnati Bengals, came to watch Dustin Woods, and they were not disappointed by the undersized wide receiver’s numbers.

Woods (5-10 1/4, 190) ran a 4.45- and 4.48-second 40-yard dash, a 4.09-second short shuttle and a 6.65-second three-cone drill. Woods was not at the NFL Scouting Combine, but his vertical jump (41 inches) , and times in the three-cone drill (6.65 seconds) and short shuttle (4.09 seconds) would have placed him among the top three wide receivers in those events. Woods also recorded a 9-foot, 10-inch broad jump and 11 bench press repetitions.
Bengals staff out in full force today:

Memphis
Calhoun (6-foot-2 1/8, 195 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 and 4.49 seconds, had a 35-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump, a 4.50-second short shuttle, a 6.75-second three-cone drill and did 12 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds. He really helped himself and should be a middle-to-late round pick. Bengals receivers coach Mike Sheppard was there to work him out.
Boise State
A strong performance during Senior Bowl week and a solid NFL Scouting Combine effort helped Boise State CB Kyle Wilson enhance his draft status. He built on the momentum from those workouts with another exceptional outing at the Broncos’ pro day on Friday.

Wilson (185 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 and 4.43 seconds, had a 38-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump, a 4.10-second short shuttle and a 6.84-second three-cone drill. He also did very good in the position drills. This workout probably moves him into the first round.

All 32 teams had representatives in attendance, and six teams (Ravens, 49ers, Cardinals, Eagles, Bengals and Rams) had defensive back coaches on hand.
Eastern Michigan
Eastern Michigan held its pro day workout on March 15 outdoors on FieldTurf. But Mother Nature didn’t cooperate, forcing 14 NFL hopefuls (10 current players, four graduates) to perform in temperatures hovering around 50 degrees with winds gusting at 15 miles per hour. In fact, each player ran one 40-yard dash against the wind, while the second run was completed with the wind.

Representatives from 10 teams were present, including a defensive backs coach from the Bengals, who conducted some position drills. Two players from Eastern Michigan’s secondary stood out:

Defensive back Johnny Sears (5-foot-11 3/4, 184 pounds) ran 4.72 seconds against the wind in the 40 and 4.62 with the wind. He had a 35.5-inch vertical leap, 10-1 broad jump, 4.38 short shuttle, 6.65 three-cone drill, and 11 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.

Safety Chris May (5-9 7/8, 195) ran 4.73-seconds against the wind in the 40 and 4.57 with the wind. He had a 34-inch vertical leap, 9-2 broad jump, 4-10 short shuttle, 6.55 three-cone drill, and 14 bench press reps.

Haden awaits draft
Former Gator cornerback Joe Haden visited Florida's practice Friday to check out his younger brother, Jordan, who is a freshman safety. Haden will have a busy next couple of weeks as he said he's set to visit the Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns at the end of the month.

Since improving his 40-yard dash time at Florida's Pro Day, Haden said things have been a lot less stressful for him. He said he's still projected as a top-10 pick in April's NFL Draft.

"Oakland told me I ran a 4.35 (in the 40-yard dash during UF's Pro Day)," Haden said. "After that nobody needed me to run anymore."

"I'm hearing a whole lot of good things. (Thursday) I got invited to the draft."

The first round of the draft will air on ESPN on April 22 at 7:30 p.m. Cleveland has the 7th overall pick, Oakland picks 8th, Tennessee is 16th and Cincinnati 21st.
