UC QB Tony Pike has not yet talked to the #bengals, but Central Michigan QB Dan LeFevour has had conversations. Both are mid-rd projections

Demaryius Thomas, WR, Ga Tech.
Speaking of wide receivers, Georgia Tech’s Demaryius Thomas surfaced in the media room Friday on crutches...

You can tell by his visits that the Bengals at 21, the Patriots at 22 and the Ravens at 25 are all looking for the same thing. He said he has interviews with the Bengals and Patriots Friday night and the Ravens on Saturday.

I'm starting to get the feeling that if Thomas has a first round grade he won't make it to 21.

The Patriots or Ravens will move ahead of us to get him.

i would love to have mccoy. he's one of the only TE's that can block as well as he can catch
He's a good player...The Bengals will have a chance in t he 3rd vround to pick up Michael Hoowanamanui the TE from Illinois..he may even last to the 4th round.. he is a helluva a blocker and a decent pass catcher..I would not mind if we got him...

I would rather have Golden Tate anyway...the best run after the catch receiver in the draft...Damian Williams would be a good pick also..

that's not the issue we've been having with our WR's. We need WR's who can run and get open BEFORE the catch.

Always a good thread during draft season.

I'm liking Tate. Is proficent in the areas that are important. Can get open, runs routes well, will make good catches, good work ethic. Like that he comes from the more NFL style offense from Weiss' ND.

I like LaFell later. He'll go later than most are thinking I believe at this point. Is a solid WR but just can't put that "great" tag on him, plus he's a little older than some other guys in the draft.

D.Thomas on the other hand, not totally sold him. Will need to learn how to run NFL routes and getting seperation might be an issue. Effort?

Would definitely want Tate over Thomas.

D. Williams seems alright. Good in the important areas again with Route running and hands catching. If it was between Tate and Williams, I'd still go Tate.

Mike Williams is a serious dude. Both on and off the field. Has a lot that NFL teams look for in a WR. Also comes with some incredibly huge baggage. Suspended in 08, quit in 09. It's all about Mike Williams for Mike Williams. Who knows where this dude might go, nowhere before the 3rd round.

Benn is ??'s all around for me. Has some talent. Does he want to use it? I personally am not a fan that he never got into the EZ much.
The Bengals' search for a wide receiver Wednesday extended up the road to Clifton at the University of Cincinnati's pro day. Sheppard, special teams coach Darrin Simmons, and director of football operations Jim Lippincott were on hand and a major object of their eyes, wide receiver Mardy Gilyard, ran a little better than he did 10 days ago at the NFL scouting combine with 40-yard times that were reportedly in the mid 4.5s range.
Oklahoma
No surprise that Spagnuolo and Mayhew were in attendance, considering their teams own the first two picks in the draft and McCoy is a candidate to land with either club. But neither got the close-up view that Bengals tight ends coach Jonathan Hayes received of Gresham.

While putting Gresham, considered the top tight end prospect in the draft, through drills, Hayes was literally run over by the mammoth player who sat out the 2009 season at Oklahoma with a knee injury.
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, CB, Indiana (PA)
Owusu-Ansah, a product of Whetstone High School in Columbus, Ohio, has generated a ton of interest since his performance at the scouting combine last month. In fact, a handful of teams lobbied Ohio State University to allow the defensive back to take part in school’s pro day on Friday. The university obliged and Owusu-Ansah will now showcase his skills along with other Buckeye players at the school’s workout.

The Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns are among the teams showing interest in Owusu-Ansah.

Texas A&M
nother prospect who gained attention was cornerback Jordan Pugh (5-foot-10, 196 pounds). He completed an outstanding workout. Pugh ran the 40 in 4.48 and 4.44 seconds, did a 40-inch vertical jump and had a 10-foot, 5-inch broad jump. He ran a 4.24-second short shuttle, a 7.13-second three-cone drill and did 14 bench press reps. The 4.44 40 time would have made Pugh the fastest cornerback at the combine. The 40-inch vertical would have tied Pugh for second at his position at the combine. And Pugh accomplished all of this in front of Bengals defensive backs coach Kevin Coyle.
Rodger Saffold, OT, Indiana
Left tackle Rodger Saffold just participated in position drills after his terrific combine numbers. Saffold is drawing a lot of interest lately. The Cincinnati Bengals, St. Louis Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs have all been monitoring the Hoosier left tackle who could break into the second round when all is said and done.
He may not be anywhere near the most famous or celebrated quarterbacks in this year’s draft, but Mike Kafka sure did astound the scouts from 25 teams in attendance at Northwestern’s pro day on Thursday. West Texas A&M adapts to weather for pro day
Posted: March 12th, 2010 | Gil Brandt | Tags: 2010 Pro Days, Eugene Sims, J'Marcus Webb, Keithon Flemming, Mike Solari, Mike Zimmer, West Texas A&M

Inclement weather? No indoor facility? No problem for West Texas A&M.

The school had to hold its pro day about 40 miles from its Canyon campus on Thursday, moving it 40 miles to Amarillo to use an indoor arena. There were 14 teams on hand, including 49ers offensive line coach Mike Solari and Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

Here are the notable prospects:

OT J’Marcus Webb (6-7 3/8, 328 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 5.31 and 5.29 seconds, had a 25 ½-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 5-inch broad jump, 4.14-second short shuttle, 7.63-second three-cone drill and did 17 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.

DE Eugene Sims (6-4 5/8, 247) ran 4.76 and 4.74 in the 40, had a 32 ½-inch vertical jump, a 9-6 broad jump, a 4.46 short shuttle, a 6.90 three-cone drill — which is an amazing time at his size — and 17 strength lifts.

RB Keithon Flemming (5-10 1/8, 208) ran 4.65 and 4.68 in the 40, had a 33 ½-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot broad jump, a 4.54 short shuttle, a 7.21 three-cone drill and did 21 lifts.

WOW.

Thanks for doing this, posting this info. Since Hayes used to coach TEs at Oklahoma, I'm sure he'll get the inside scoop on Gresham. While his times weren't spectacular, from the clips I saw, he looked to be in shape, and he's a big guy who moved well. Sounds like his knee checked out, too.
