CINCINNATI - Sports Illustrated released their 2010 NFL predictions and the Bengals aren't predicted to go as far as fans are hoping.

Sports Illustrated writer Peter King predicts the Bengals will have a winning record at 9-7, but won't make the playoffs.

In the new issue, King talks to Quarterback Carson Palmer about some of the plays that cost Cincinnati a win against the Jets in last year's playoffs.

"I've watched that playoff game over and over. There's a bunch of plays I wish I could have back-four throws I wish I could have back," Palmer tells King, "I was hurrying my feet. We could have had a big gain on one play and I hurried, and I threw it over [Chad Ochocinco's] head. That's on me. But I can either say, 'Woe is me,' or I can figure out what I need to do to play better."

You can read the full prediction for the 2010 season in the newest edition of SI, available at newsstands everywhere and in your mailbox Wednesday.

Carson's right about those plays. If he's on target and if people tracked penalties Chad is whoopin Revis island and Bengals are in the second round.

On the prediction: Bengals were not a team that won because everything fell right for them. In many respects they won in spite of some bad luck. They didn't have a pro bowler (although I think that's BS) but it points to nobody really having a crazy, crazy, stat year.

I think some Browns beat reporter was trying to draw comparisons between the 2007 Browns and 2009 Bengals, don't see it. That Browns team had players turning in fluke games. IMO, complete opposite for the 2009 Bengals.

Steelers Notebook: Sports Illustrated pick defies Big Ben logic
Wednesday, September 01, 2010
By Ray Fittipaldo, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Ben Roethlisberger's suspension for at least four games and the team's 9-7 record last season has many in the prognostication field leaving the Steelers out of the playoffs again this season. But one prominent NFL reporter is picking the Steelers to raise the Lombardi Trophy for the seventh time.

Sports Illustrated picked the Steelers to win Super Bowl XLV. Senior NFL writer Peter King predicted the Steelers will beat the Green Bay Packers, 33-27, to win the championship.

"Sounds good to me," defensive end Brett Keisel said. "We're excited to get another one. I think we have the makeup for a great team in here. If we can just stay healthy and play hard, then I think we have the guys to do it."

Veteran receiver Hines Ward said the Steelers usually do their best work when the experts don't pick them.

"I like Peter King," Ward said. "Look back in time. The years we won, we kind of flew under the radar. There is something about this team. We play pretty good when people count us out."

The last time King correctly predicted the winner of the Super Bowl before the season? It was 1995, when the Cowboys beat the Steelers in Super Bowl XXX. This week's issue of Sports Illustrated hits newsstands today.

In all fairness the Bengals could go 6-10 this year because of the schedule and injuries. It all depends on the first five games. I'm concerned about the pass rush and being thin at safety. Personally, I think that they'll go 11-5 or 12-4 and in any case win the AFCN again. Peter King's pick always suck. If he's raggin' on the Bengals, I'm encouraged.

How does Sports Illustrated even still exist? They certainly can only be getting subscriptions from people who haven't heard of the internet. Or that think they're gonna get a football phone.

I would think collectibles and hair cut lobbys. The only time I buy SI is because of the cover. The only time I read it is when I'm waiting to get my hair cut.
