The one group that really needed a Bengals win over the Broncos last Sunday was the ticket office since it appears that they have a lot of work to do to get a sellout for Sunday’s game against the Giants.
Sales for the game are behind last week’s pace, which means that the chances of a blackout are slightly above 50 percent. The game needs to be declared a sellout by Thursday at 1 p.m. or has be within range that the team can ask for an extension.
The Bengals have declared sellouts for five straight games dating back to last season. Up until that point 10 of 11 had been blacked out. Through the first four home games of this season, they are averaging 95.9 percent of capacity (62,808). Last year at this point it was 76.3 percent of capacity or 49,959 fans per game.
Just buy the corner 300 seats for 25 bucks a pop then move to better seats. I did that for years until we went on playoff run with Carson. If you buy in section 304 or similar, you can then move to 309-313 which are great seats. There will be plenty of empty seats. May have to sit next to Giants fans.

Hard to do in lower sections as the isle cops are pretty strict.

Bengals blacked out vs. Giants -- attendance slide underway?

By Paul Dehner Jr. | CBSSports.com November 8, 2012 2:23 pm ET

Bengals fans sold out Sunday's game against Denver, but fell short of that goal for this coming Sunday's game against the defending Super Bowl champion Giants. (US Presswire)

As the Bengals playoff hopes dwindle in the midst of a four-game losing streak their attendance plummets in the same direction.

For the first time this season, the Bengals failed to sell out a home game and it will be blacked out on local television. The fight for attendance has been an ongoing one for a number of years, but never increasingly became an issue following the disastrous 2010 season.

Thursday's news broke a streak of five consecutive sell outs dating back to last season when the team offered buy one, get one free offer for the final home game against Baltimore. Prior to that attendance ranked at the lowest levels since Paul Brown Stadium opened in 2000.

Not selling out a home game against the defending Super Bowl champions doesn't bode well in projections as the rest of the season drives toward the middle of winter.

Last year, they failed to draw more than 45,000 (70 percent capacity) for half of their home games. Those that went over were the Baltimore ticket deal and three games against teams within reasonable driving distance (Cleveland, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh).

This trend mirrors the downward attendance spiral from the 2010 season when four home games through the year the run of sellouts ended and they didn't sell out another game the rest of the season. Following the year, th team saw a mass exodus of season-ticket holders.

2010 home attendance (approx. 65,000 capacity)
Baltimore: Sold out
Tampa Bay: Sold out
Miami: Sold out
Pittsburgh: Sold out
Buffalo: 55,654
New Orleans: 59,963
Cleveland: 56,342
San Diego: 54,194

Without resuscitating this season, the Bengals could be on a path for similar fan disenfranchisement. Right now, the Dec. 9 home game against Dallas appears close to a sell out, but the remainder of the schedule (Nov. 25 vs. Oakland, Dec. 30 vs. Baltimore) will need a boost to avoid blackout.

Exactly, Marvin's team can't defend their turf when they are the favorite. Alot of money to spend when the you have a fair idea the good guys are gonna tank. You can dissappoint so many people only so much. I'm telling ya, I own two sets of season tickets, Next year it will be one or none depending on how this team shows up while they are still in contension. If they pull that dead cat bounce crap once they are eliminated practically or mathematically, it will be none. Sick of this shit. Mediocre was great after years of horrible. ONE good freaking team in 11 years, child please. They only ever finish a season strong when then start out crappy.

Yea, I got the ticket but I'll be in Salt Lake City for the weekend so guess I'll just check the shit on my phone to see how bad we're getting raped at our HOUSE...
If it's a season ticket I think you can sell it on stubhub and the person who buys it can take a computer printout as the ticket...or something like that. I'm not sure how it works.

never quite gotten this argument from season ticket holders. Every season ticket holder knows the history of this franchise and buys season tickets at their own risk. It's not like ownership has changed. People know the risk of the quality of product when they buy the tickets, if they still buy them knowing the team's history, well that's on them. Buyer Beware.

That might be a good argument if it wasn't for seat licensing, and the fact a season ticket holder loses his place in the stadium and drops out of line to move up to better seats. Quit pulling crap on season ticket owners, because when they bought their tickets and seat licenses, they were given the assumption they were investing into a team that was set on putting a quality team on the field and winning games. Zero playoff wins since 56 B.C. doesn't get it. Et tu, Brute?

Had season tickets in the 90s and finally gave them up when PBS opened. Seat license was a bit too much to swallow after the 99 season (we started 1-10) I took a wait and see approach and was real close to buying them again in 2007. Been buying them from a friend and on stubhub/ticketsnow for years but only make 3 or 4 games a year. Have never had an issue moving to better seats in the 300 sections over the years except in 2005 and 06. Even in 2009 the place had plenty of seats empty in the 311-12 section which are great seats.

I want to say scew all of you guys that don't give me a +1 for quoting Julius Caesar in a football thread where Bengals1181 is stabbing his Bengal brother Dr. Tarzan! People who call Romney racist get a +1, but nooooo try to add a little culture to your lives and I get jack shit. :1018:

I could swear I saw you at a game last season...as they were winning. I also could swear I saw you at a game in a non- winning season.

I guess your contention made above is complete nonsense...or you are a fan regardless.

Since I am a fan, didn’t I include myself in that?

Not stupid enough to get season tickets year after year like some fools.

Out of your 138 post, how many would you say are NOT negative? People say I'm a Debbie Downer troll, you get even lower than me. That's saying something. I feel like I owe you a beer or something. If not for you, I'd be lying on cold hard concrete.

Perhaps if folks would cease thinking of this as an investment...and look at it as the entertainment item it is... the annual "I won't be back until MB dies or gets a football man as GM" would become superfluous.

I go because I enjoy the event. If others don't, that is their choice. Whomever shows up or doesn't, doesn't affect me.

And Lew: no need to go Octavian on the board. :)

You are debating yourself in this statement. Of course, I already knew the answer to my question.

Just wanted to see you answer it for everyone else.

Thank you, doctor.

I know many who do the same and that's totally cool. Likewise, I view it as entertainment as well.

I just can't feel bad for anyone who knowingly buys what has historically been an inferior product, and then complains when the product ends up being inferior. They knew the risk they were taking.

Yeah...every "lifetime Cowboy fan" who has never been closer to Texas than Covington will be there. Happens every time they come in.

Although one of my all-time favorite Bengal games was in 1985 when an unknown stripe team pitched Danny White and America's Darlings into the next year. Beat the literal hell out of them.
