Brian Leonard gone...

I do not think the comparisons that Jamie references are Mayocks specifically but are comparisons made in the draft profiles on NFL.com.  The Franklin comparison they have is Benard Scott.  I kid you not.

I love the way Franklin runs, but I agree there are plenty of Bernard Scott like flaws in his game.

For example, the mostly positive profile above negatively describes Franklin as a mostly horrible pass blocker who always cutblocks and frequently misses altogether. Can't have that. Fumbles. Can't have that. Often goes down from glancing blows due to a too small base. That's Bernard Scott in a nutshell.

Based on their ratings and not actual NFL production:

1. Trent Richardson

2. Doug Martin

3. Eddie Lacy

4. David Wilson

5. Giovanni Bernard

6. Jonathan Franklin

7. Isiah Pead

8. Le'Veon Bell

9. Andre Ellington

10. LaMichael James

11. Montee Ball

For what it is worth, per NFL.com before the 2012 and 2013 drafts...

1. TRich 93.5 (3)

2. Doug Martin 86.0 (31)

3. David Wilson 85 (32)

4. Lamar Miller 84.5 (97)

5. Gio Bernard 84.0

6. Eddie Lacy 82.0

7. Joseph Randle 80.6

8. Andre Ellington 79.7

9. Isaiah Pead 76.7 (50)

10. Montee Ball 75.6

11. Marcus Lattimore 74.9

12. Lamichael James 73.5 (61)

13. Stefan Taylor 72.6

14. Jonathan Franklin 72.3

15. Chris Rainey 71.7 (159)

16. Christine Michael 71.4

17. Leveon Bell 71.2

18. Bernard Pierce 71.0 (84)

19. Jawan jamieson 71.0

20. Ray Graham 70.9

21. Mike Gillesse 70.3

22. Dennis Johnson 70

So obviously this is just NFL.coms rankings so who knows what other people would rate them, but in 2012 they had 8 guys rated 70 or higher. In 2013 they have 14 guys rated higher. Obviously the top end of the 2012 was better rated then the top end of the 2013 guys, but the 2013 draft is deeper.

NFL.com bases their ratings 70-84 (which all 14 guys from 2013 fall into) as 2nd or 3rd round picks that will contribute right away and eventually start. So yeah they can definitely help this team.

The 5 year draft average for number of running backs taken is 19. I have trouble believing that 14 would go by round 3. So either the rankings are skewed or...the rankings are skewed.

I think that shows you should be able to get 3rd round running back talent in the 4th-6th rounds. The rankings aren't saying the round they will be picked but the talent level they are graded out at.
