*** [RD 5] Bengals Select ~ JOSH NEWTON, CB ***

Recommended Posts

Meh. The preseason projections always assume continued progression. In Newton's case, there was regression so he dropped to day 3. We probably should have picked KAD in the prior round, he's a much better player. It's not clear that Newton will beat out even Allen George.

We certainly need more talent at CB. But Newton is just a guy. That's why they're moving Dax Hill to boundary corner instead of his more natural slot CB position.

not a fan of the projects in the CB group currently. hopefully a veteran hits the waiver wire in the offseason here and we can add there as well

Not sure that Charles Burks is as strong a position coach as some of the ones on the offensive side, but it sounds like he was the one pounding the table for Dax Hill to move to CB. Hope Burks is right when he talks like he feels like he's adding a new 1st round draft choice to his position room.

"He can cover anybody on the field. He's a natural cover player," Burks said Monday as the 2024 draft sunk in. "He's got the length to cover bigger targets, short-area quickness to cover space guys. He has the balance to anchor at the top of the route. He's got a lot of the tools that the elite corners around the league have."
