Yup, played 12 seasons for 4 different teams, winning the Grey Cup and being named Player of the Year in 2007 for Saskatchewan. Also had a hand in Geno Smith's rejuvenation in Seattle as Asst. QB coach.

This was the “Final Straw” game for everyone I attended this game with. I’m not sure I have ever seen a more angry Bengals crowd. AS was so shit…as were whatever other parts of that team/coaching staff masquerading as an NFL franchise…the poor souls in the seats had had enough. I know I had.

(Excerpts of the never-released documentary “The Greatest Fans” was filmed there that day. The trailer is on YouTube. It did capture the seething and hopelessness of that awful season)

Never knew of that almost-documentary. Just went and found it. I think it's strangely cathartic for anyone who lived through that period.

KA, your contribution to the board has been appreciated by all.

I question Carson Palmers stats

In his first starting year.

I see him at 18-18 2nd year ( why  did they ever sit him over Jon fuckin Kitna)

His 3rd year he threw 32 tds which broke the record here.

Hmm...always possible I'm missing something, but in double-checking, I think I've got his stats right.

First year in Cincy, 2003, he didn't play.

Second year, 2004 (1st year starting). he threw 18/18 TD/INT.

Third year, 2005 (2nd year starting), he had 32/12.

Maybe it's where I listed him each season? In 2003, he showed up in the ARRIVING section, where I always put the player's photos. From then on, he is listed in the RETURNING section each season, sans photos.

If there's a better, more logical, more aesthetically pleasing way to post each season, I am always open to recommendations. I want the info to be as clear and as easy to digest as possible. And if my Dumb Button is stuck in the "ON" position, please LMK what I'm missing. Any and all feedback is more than welcome.

Color-coded key to each QB's status/progress for any given season:

1. Acquired (via Draft or Free Agency) but never suited-up

2. Rookie/Training camp only (cut before pre-season games)

3. On the roster for Exhibition/Pre-season games

4. Brought in for mid-season tryout, but was not signed

5. Made the Practice Squad (aka, cab/taxi squad or developmental squad)

6. Made the roster, but never got into a game

7. Played in a regular season game as the Bengals QB

Additional classifications:

Served as Emergency (#3) QB while playing another position

* Injured/out for season

* Participated in pre-draft workout for Bengals

It wasn't until recently that I discovered that there was a league-wide arrangement for teams to hold a formal pre-draft, local players' workout for guys who played either their high school or college ball in the team's general region. Since this wasn't a setting in which the players could either be signed or cut, I felt if fell outside the scope of what I was documenting. However, after noticing a couple of players who later actually suited up and went to camp with the Bengals, I figured I would keep track of these quarterbacks as best I could, albeit in a separate classification.

Although it appears a local tryout was held Apr. 14, 2009 (I couldn't find a list of participants), the first year I found concrete information for was 2010. So going forward, I'll precede each season's RETURNING/ARRIVING QB's post with one identifying which QBs (if any) participated in the local pre-draft tryout.

This will only be for QBs who came to Cincinnati for the Bengals' official Local Prospect Day, not QBs whose schools hosted personal Pro Day workouts that Bengals' scouts were invited to observe, which would be nearly impossible to chronicle thoroughly.

2010

RETURNING:

#9 - Carson Palmer (USC) - started all 16 games, going 4-12; went 362-of-586 for 3,970 yards, 26 TDs & 20 INTs. After the regular season, Palmer requested to be traded. His request was promptly turned down by the Bengals and Palmer, in return, indicated he was prepared to retire rather than play for the Bengals again.

#5 - Jordan Palmer (UTEP) - played in 1 game (Week 11 vs Bills); went 3-of-3 for 18 yards.

#4 - J.T. O'Sullivan (UC-Davis) - played in all 4 preseason games; released 9/4/10 after final preseason game.

ARRIVING:

#___ - Daniel Raudabaugh (Miami, OH) - invited for rookie mini-camp tryout 4/30/10; not signed after mini-camp 5/2/10.

NOTES:

* NFL eliminated the Emergency QB Rule, instituted in 1991, whereby a team could dress a 3rd QB without using a gameday roster spot.

NEED:

* Jersey # worn by Daniel Raudabaugh.
