Counterpoint:  Hubbard has been washed for two years and is not a starting caliber player at this point.

Blame it on injuries or whatever else but it’s painfully obvious to everyone who has watched him play.

He needs to take a steep pay cut or he’s getting released.

Agree.

Awesome. When Tee and Chase get their deals and Trey gets extended, I will be happy to root for Hubbard.

Lol...this narrative that cutting Hubbard is the only way to keep our star players is ridiculous.

Agree.

Hubbard had a solid season 2023 and played all of 2024 with a serious hamstring injury.

Hubbard is 11th all time in the Bengals sack list, when he's healthy he's a good player. Teams don't get better by cutting players like him.

You're joking but that does matter. The team wants it's players to be good ambassadors in the community that they rely on for support.

Injuries or whatever...lol..it's not whatever. It's injuries. Let's make this a realistic example, if you were injured on the job would u expect to be fired even though you have been an exemplary employee...of course not.

Hubbard is a team captain that performs at a high level when he's on the field, cutting him before his contract expires because of injuries is not going to happen.

When healthy Hubbard is the 2nd best DE on the roster currently, until that changes I don't see Hubbard getting cut.

Well yes, the team would like the community to vote them more money along with extending the very team-friendly lease.

Of course players should be released when they can no longer play to the level they were at previously. Hubbard has been playing on 1 leg for a couple of seasons now. When healthy, he was an above average run defender but never much of a pass rusher. He only rarely beat his man, he got some sacks when his teammate flushed the QB in his direction.

Who said Hubbard was the reason the reason are poor? Rankins is making the same amount as Hubbard, who would you rather have?

Cappa, Rankins, Volson, and Moss should get cut before Hubbard. That almost 30 million in cap savings by cutting those 4 players.

This idea that Hubbard is some albatross around the Bengals neck is silly. He's not dead weight or the reason why Hendrickson, Chase, or Higgins haven't gotten new deals.

Hubbard on 1 leg was very much deadweight. Ossai outperformed him over the last half of the season. I agree with releasing Cappa, Rankins, Volson, and Moss. But Hubbard too and probably Stone and Pratt.

Teams get better by replacing players like Sam with someone more capable, whether a rookie or vet.

Eagles defer cap hits as much as possible. They'll likely move on from Bradberry and Huff this offseason, maybe Slay as well. Eagles draft much better than the Bengals so they have that going for them and their GM is more creative. They also have ownership which stays in its lane (checkwriting) and doesn't try to run the front office with various relatives.

The cap deferrals might mean they get cap constrained in the future. But they also may be able to manage their way through it. They currently have an inexpensive defense with lots of good players on rookie and low-cost deals. That allowed them to get great value for money and led them to the Super Bowl this year. Bengals aren't really ready to match up with the Eagles as we saw in the regular season. At some point, they'll have to pay Jalen Carter, Quinyon Mitchell, etc. But it may be after Lane Johnson, Dallas Goedert, etc are gone.

The Bengals are a better team with a healthy Sam Hubbard. He's a leader on and off the field, a Cincinnati guy that stands up for all of the city....that means something to the Bengals, the business community, and the fans

Also, you have no clue if the Eagles will release those players, that's all pure conjecture to fit your argument.

Laurie runs the Eagles like modern business, you hit the nail on the head. He hires smart people like Howie Rosemond gets out of the way, he doesn't fancy himself a football man because of his dad or grandfather's accomplishments...it's a meritocracy

Hubbard played well in 2023, not sure where this narrative is coming from that he's  holding the team back or dead weight...he's 8th all time on the franchise sack list and only 5 sacks from being in the top 5..

I can't wait to see everyone that wanted him gone eat crow when he comes back healthy in 2025.

Yes, of course it's conjecture on who will be cut by teams this time of year. It might be hard to get out of Huff's contract after 1 year, Bradberry is like gonzo. Hubbard should be for the Bengals as well but what should be a sure thing isn't, for some of the reasons you mentioned.

Hubbard is indeed dead weight and his 2023 season was nothing to write home about. He had 6 sacks, 17 hits, and 22 pressures in 714 snaps. Last year Ossai had 5 sacks, 15 QB hits, and 23 pressures in 576 snaps.

If Hubbard is released, no other team is going to give him a 10 mil per year deal. If he goes elsewhere and has a good season, good for him. But I don't want the Bengals to pay him 10 mil to find out what we already know, that he doesn't generate much pass rush or pressure. We need someone opposite Trey who can threaten an opposing QB. Sam isn't that guy.
