BROWN, GIANTS HAVE GOOD VISIT

By PAUL SCHWARTZ

April 8, 2006 -- It's no secret the Giants need to bolster their linebacker position and, seeking to upgrade their experience at that spot, they met yesterday with Chad Brown, a 13-year NFL veteran who is an unrestricted free agent.
"He had a great meeting with the Giants," said Brown's agent, Peter Schaffer. "It was wonderful. All good."

Schaffer said he plans on speaking with Kevin Abrams, the Giants assistant general manager, on Monday, which means that's when financial terms on a possible deal will be discussed. Brown, who turns 36 on July 12, spent the first four years of his career with the Steelers and knows Giants defensive coordinator Tim Lewis, a former Pittsburgh assistant, quite well.

Brown parlayed a career-best 13-sack 1996 season into a huge payday with the Seahawks and spent eight seasons in Seattle. Brown is known as a highly effective pass-rusher, but has managed one sack in the past two seasons, none in 15 games and five starts last year in his one season with the Patriots.

With the departures of Barrett Green and Nick Greisen, the Giants are thin at linebacker, with four veterans on the roster. They continue to have interest in LaVar Arrington, but the former Redskin's asking price remains too high for the Giants' liking.

Saban: Money is issue with Arrington talks
BY JASON COLE AND CHRISTINA HOAG
jcole@MiamiHerald.com

Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Saturday the team is trying to sign free agent linebacker LaVar Arrington despite lengthy, ongoing negotiations.

''We're trying,'' Saban said after being asked about Arrington during a Q&A session with fans at a Dolphins season-ticket sales function at Dolphin Stadium.

The hang-up, Saban indicated, is money.

''We're trying to get a deal that would satisfy him as well as work for us,'' said Saban before explaining some related salary-cap issues.

Arrington, who regularly visits South Florida, has expressed a strong interest in playing for the Dolphins. The New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals also have expressed interest in him.

However, Arrington's agents, brothers Carl and Kevin Poston, also have indicated that they would like to get a deal for Arrington that would include more than $10 million in guaranteed money.

Arrington, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, bought his way out of his contract with Washington after last season.

Arrington clashed with Redskins coaches and was pulled from the starting lineup at one point.

However, Saban said he envisions the talented Arrington working well as an outside linebacker opposite Jason Taylor.

''He's an outstanding player who could line up and complement the things we do with our outside linebacker rush,'' Saban said.

STILL ON HOLD

• The Dolphins and Detroit are continuing to talk about a trade for quarterback Joey Harrington, who has told the Lions he prefers to play for the Dolphins.

• Texas safety/cornerback Michael Huff, considered the top defensive back in the upcoming draft, met with the Dolphins on Friday. Analysts project Huff to be among the top 10 selections. The Dolphins have the No. 16 overall pick and have had several of the top players, such as Ohio State wide receiver Santonio Holmes, in for visits. Texas quarterback Vince Young is scheduled to meet with the team today and Monday.

NEW LOGO

Dolphin Stadium now sports a new logo and state-of-the-art, high-definition scoreboards as part of an overhaul in preparation for the 2006 football season and 2007 Super Bowl.

The stadium's name has also been tweaked -- it's now Dolphin Stadium, without the ''s,'' said Dolphins Enterprises Chief Executive Joe Bailey.

''The notion is that for the next five years we present a variety of big events that attract national and international attention,'' he said. ``We want to make the stadium an experience, so we have to think about it in a little different way.''

The new logo, which will be placed on the stadium's exterior and branded retail merchandise, is a contemporary-looking dolphin in teal, orange, blue and platinum colors with the words ``Dolphin Stadium.''

Bailey said the singular Dolphin in the new name seeks to differentiate the stadium from the NFL franchise but maintain the link.

Along with the branding changes, the stadium unveiled two high-definition LED scoreboards at the east and west ends and a LED ribbon display ticker around the seating bowl.

The moves are part of a development strategy for the stadium and its 270 acres of land that owner Wayne Huizenga launched a year ago.

Plans discussed have included building a hotel and office space on the site.

Bailey said the master development plan has not been finalized, but the stadium will undergo an extensive renovation to add more floor space and bells and whistles.
I'm almost to the point now where I'm thinking there is no way in hell we sign this guy, especially since his money demands are becoming a little ridiculous and not coming down. Originally, I thought the dude would want to play for Marvin again for a REASONABLE price, but no way will he come here for that after seeing his demands.

I'd love to have him, but I dont see it happening anymore.

It is my gut feeling when someone signs a FA to a VERY BIG contract, the FA usually does NOT perform to the level of the contract. Yes, I would want Arrington to play for the Bengals. No, I would NOT want to pay too much because it seems to come back and bite you in your pants. I hope New York and the other teams decide not to pay the BIG bucks. That would allow Marvin to have him sign with us. His contract is taking a lloooonnnnngggggg time to get done. That may work in favor for us.

Thirty-nine school days LEFT! YES!

Foxes and Cat are doing well together.

yeh there is a 99.85 percent chance that he signs elsewherre this is because we signed adams and we resigned Boobie williams and we still have to sign a back-up QB and save money for the draft and maybe resign another lineman. I just think there is no way it will go down cuz if it does we will be fucked.
