Dirty Steeler Hit on Carson Palmer

Recommended Posts

It was January of 2006. It's now May of 2007. Kimo is no longer a Steeler, Palmer has returned, and still couldn't beat us on your home field with a playoff spot on the line (hold the excuses..you lost the game). Let it go.

Would it have been a different game if Palmer had stayed in. Probably. That doesn't mean the Bengals would have won. Your defense still gave up 31 points before we started running out the clock, and when we were running...when you needed to stop us and score...you couldn't stop Jerome.

Kitna showed plenty in the first half. Every Steeler fan was still very much afraid of losing. In the second half, the Bengals (as a team) collapsed under the pressure. No playoff experience compared to Pitt$burgh, and no defense.

Palmer might have made it closer than a 14 point game, but I don't know if he could have singlehandedly won. If you want to say he could have to let yourselves sleep at night, go right ahead.

Was it intentional or clean? Honestly, I don't care. As Joey Porter said on "America's Game"....we felt sorry for him, until we were called cheapshot artists and scumbags. We'll gladly be the bad guys. Fine. Yea, he did it on purpose. He hit him, he didn't get up, and the game went on. That's football. No flag was thrown, no penalty came, and we won the game. Crying won't change it.

Personally, I'm looking forward to a improved season from both teams. As much as I love watching the St33lers win the division, I'd much rather see them fight for it against equal talent, instead of merely stepping over inferior teams like in years past.

But as others have said, it's time to move on. The past couple of years have been a great rivalry regardless of the hit. Hopefully that trend continues.

Most of the rest of your post was ok,but no one in this thread is making excuses about the loss that I can see. Most of us are just saying it was a dirty hit at the very least.

I was talking about excuses for the last game this past season, where Palmer was healthy and still couldn't beat us to get into the playoffs.

There were plenty of excuses going around after the playoff game, that Palmer would have won had he stayed in. Would it have been closer? Probably. Would you have won? No one knows for sure.

I'm sure it was a dirty hit. I'm sure Kimo wanted to get a shot in to rattle Palmer and knock him around. It happens multiple times in any football game to any QB. As long as the QB gets up, no one makes a big deal about it. Again, it's football. That shit happens. If Palmer hadn't been so busy getting off on his pass to Henry, he would have (and should have) noticed a 300+ pound man diving at his leg, and simply moved out of the way. But even if it was dirty, I very much doubt that Kimo intended to knock any player out of the game.

But Kimo's not a Steeler anymore, I couldn't care less about him, and it happened over a year ago. Time to move on.

No problem for me moving on,but you'll have to refresh me ,what were the excuses when we lost at home to you guy's last year?To my knowledge, everyone on here at least ,admitted it was our own unravelling that started with the Indy loss.

Here is my bottom line. If you had swept us during the regualar season that year then I would have zero issue conceding that if with Palmer in the game we probabally would have lost that playoff game. Except that wasnt the case was it? We had beaten you just a month earlier with every single player that was on the same D fielded in the playoff game. Therefore it stands to reason that the most important player on his team could have beaten you again. Would the Colts have won it all this year had manning gone down? I think we both know that answer.

Dirty hit aside, and it was dirty, had you fucks not come here celebrating his injury I doubt youd still get the venom you get. Toothlessberger's accedent was a shame for him, I felt bad for him. For every single person that came to this site celebraing Carsons injury, the accident was a devine karma of sorts.

I have moved on from it. You still get the * on that championship, as most of the world saw that game and voted in the ESPN poll saying what they thought of it. But reguardless I dont care about 2 years ago anymore.

And no I dont want the great rivalry to continue, what I want is for your team to go into a 14 year slide where bengals fans come to your stadium and taunt you in the name of "good sportsmanship". Then and only then will it be even.

I agree he isnt on mannings level yet. However for the past two years you tell me who the QB has more passing TD's?

Last year's TDs.

Carson - 32
Payton - 28

This year
Payton - 31
Carson - 28

SO you mean to tell me Carson has 1 more TD in the past two years than Payton.

Brady knocked out in 1st half

Final score 24-17 Patriots. Better team won.

Kitna/Bledsoe = same thing.

Bledsoe and the Patriots sucked it up and did what they had to do.

Kitna played well until 2nd half and Johnson had a sissy fit at halftime.

Better team won 34-17
Did you really just compare a 1st round draft pick to a guy that made his way up comming through NFL Europe?

Yep, you got me, 1st round draft picks are always better than free agents, later round picks, arena/Nfl Europe players

Ryan Leaf and Akili Smith had such better careers when you compare them to Kurt Warner, Montana, Unitas, Brady, Favre, Delhomme.

Wanna bet me that if you run the #'s on average the 1st rounders are much more successful than the Kitna's of the world. And come on you really believe Kitna ... Jon Freaking Kitna...has the same talent that Drew Bledose does?

If so I have a bridge here in DC I'd like to sell you.

Are you people serious? I mean, really. Are you really still crying about this?

Football is a mans game. People get hurt EVERY WEEK. Football is not a game of excuses.

Was it a rough play? Yeah. If your defensive end isn't a mean son of a bitch on the field, I don't know why he's on your team. But if you know Kimo at all, who as other people have pointed out, isn't even a Steeler anymore, you would know he wasn't a dirty player. It was an unfortunate play, considering Palmer was seriously injured, but it didn't even draw a penalty. I've never seen a team piss an moan so much about a play like this. Maybe if you guys could suck it up and get over it, you could make something of your team. (Or if you could keep your players out of jail..)

But seriously, keep yourselves going with the whole "what if..." scenario. You guys clearly deserved to make it to Super Bowl XL, even though you couldn't beat the lowest seeded team. We went on to beat the Colts, then the Broncos, then the Seahawks. Manning, Plummer, and Hasselbeck -- 3 of the best quarterbacks of '05. We must have taken them out of the games too to get those wins, right? Oh, wait...

What kept you guys from reaching the Super Bowl in '06? Oh, yeah. That was us too. :1violin: I would have thought you guys would have gone all the way with your healthy QB! And keep showing that Thurman hit, I'm sure the thought of it cheers him up in the slammer. And sorry we don't have "14 year slides" like you guys do... We've been too busy with 10 playoff berths over the last 15 years. But if that actually does happen, and you guys actually get a good run going, feel free to heckle us. I'm sure we'll be able to fire back better than you guys can. (i.e., tears and whiny, hair-brained conspiracy theories).

And keep putting the * next to our 5th Super Bowl win. How many Super Bowl wins do you guys have? I'm not entirely sure, but last time I checked, we were tied for most in NFL history....

Oh, and just to end it on this note.....

I know this may be hard to grasp, but I used "serious" in a different sense than you did.

When I used it, I meant, "Are you guys joking?"

When you used it, I assume you meant, "you take this so seriously that you would go so far as to create a username just to comment on it."

And, if that is what you meant, then I'll gladly accept that. Someone has to put an end to this non-stop sobfest/circle-jerk that you guys seem to want to keep reliving. You lost a playoff game 2 seasons ago, get the fuck over it. We beat better teams than you on the road to Super Bowl XL, so why do you assume that you had a guaranteed win against us with a healthy Palmer? Oh, most of you guys probably think he's ranked somewhere between Peyton Manning and Jesus Christ, right?

Point I was making was at that point in their career Bledsoe/Kitna proabably had about the same skillset. Bledsoe may have still been better like you said overall in his career but at that point he was on his downfall and still coming off an injury. He came off the bench and did what he had to do to help his team beat us that day. Kitna may not be great (but watch out for him this year) but at that point he was still one of the better backup QB's around and had come off many years where he started and played very well for you. He also taught your boy some of the ropes of the NFL so I would think you would give him some respect other than being mad at him for one game. He played well in the 1st half but stealers pulled away in the 2nd. He couldn't keep up because HIS TEAM couldn't. THey are not the Cincinnati Palmers. They are the Bengals. stealers were better than the Bengals that day.

Why the hell are you here, on a Bengals board, exactly???

No, I don't believe anyone here has Palmer between Manning and Jesus Christ but I think most have Palmer as a younger version of Manning at this point. Palmer is better than Manning was at this stage of his career and I've followed Manning since his freshman year at UT.

If you're so confident in your belief of your SB run and win 2 years ago you wouldn't run around to other teams' message boards posting shit. You'd go on about your business and wouldn't give them a second thought.

Yet, you're here so what does that say about you...

Bam - where did you play ball with Manning at? Just curious - you claim to be bosom buddies and all just would like to know where that goes back to.

FiveX* (with an * for sure) - just go back to your Stoolers board and have a big time. You're not needed here.

Other than telling me I shouldn't be here, or using random emotes, do any of you have an original, intelligible argument?

If you want to know why I'm here, its because I stumbled across this bullshit thread and just felt a need to throw a Steeler opinion in here. It's a lot easier to talk shit on someone (or, a team, in this case) when no one is there to defend them. I know you guys would have loved to keep going with your "lol stealers sux" and "lol stealers r dirty" posts (great nickname, by the way), but you're living in a dream world if you believe all of it. I know your QB cries a lot, but that doesn't mean you guys have to as well. :(

Why do you care? I don't get it.

You've thrown your Steeler opinion in here, now scurry off...

For an intelligent response - the halftime meltdown (which I agree was partly due to not having the big-time playoff experience) came in response to Palmer being knocked out of the game. It doesn't happen, the stealers don't come back to win that game. Yes, you still may have scored 34 (doubtful as we'd have possessed the ball for more of the clock, etc.) on our D but with Palmer we'd have scored significantly more points. Somewhere in the high 30's to low 40's. Hell, he rung 38 on you up at your place 3-4 weeks prior to that...

I just don't get you giving a shit about what anyone on a Bengals site says. Why do you feel the need to "defend" a team, especially to another team's fans? That being the case I think I speak for most fans here then by saying we're flattered that our opinion means that much to you.

Me too. When has Palmer the diplomat ever complained publicly about anything? Though many Bengals fans felt he should, especially about the dirty hit in question. In which he just said it was part of the game. The closest thing to controversy that he said that I can think of is that he hates the stealers, but who doesn't?

And I won't even address Ben's track record.
