Posted by jreedy April 30th, 2010, 2:52 pm

First there was the Feb. 11 tryout by Pacman Jones with the Bengals.

After the fervor of that died down a little, the story came back again six weeks later when Jones' agent said that the Bengals were among three teams that had an interest in the troubled cornerback. The Niners denied interest while the Lions remained silent.

And now when it appeared that died down? Word from Pacman himself that the Bengals are one of four teams he is talking with.

Said Jones on Sporting News Radio's 2 Live Stews on what he's been doing recently, Pacman said: "I ain't been doing nothing man. Working out hard. Being a good dad. For the most part, working out. Trying to stay in tip-top shape. Trying to get a job. I'm talking to a couple teams – the Lions, Cincinnati, Green Bay, Jacksonville. No one has really made a major move yet. I'm just doing may part to stay in shape waiting for a shot… I feel like I'm pretty much back at my peak."

Sources: Lions not expected to sign Pacman Jones

By Tom Kowalski

April 30, 2010, 6:21PM
ALLEN PARK -- Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew is fond of saying he's a man who likes to keep his options open, and that's why the Lions aren't slamming the door completely shut on Pacman Jones. However, according to sources close to the situation, the Lions have no plans to sign Jones in the foreseeable future.

Jones is an unrestricted free-agent cornerback who has been out of football since 2008. He's trying to land a spot with an NFL team, and the Lions have had some contact with Jones during the offseason. While the Lions have an obvious need for depth at cornerback, Jones does not fit into their plans.

Jones was the sixth overall pick by the Tennessee Titans in the 2005 draft and started 28 games in his first two years, but he was constantly in trouble with the law.

He had four interceptions in 15 starts with the Titans in 2006 -- his best year as a pro. However, he was suspended for the 2007 season and then attempted a comeback in 2008 with the Dallas Cowboys. He played in nine games and had six starts (and no interceptions) and was benched. Jones later was released from the team.

After not playing in 2009, Jones has been cleared to return to the NFL by commissioner Roger Goodell but, so far, no team has come close to signing him.

Just because he has been talking to a couple of teams doesn't mean they are interested.
Sorry, but that would mean they were interested at least to some degree. Otherwise they would not be in communication with him. Of course this assumes he is telling the truth that he is speaking to these teams.

No, that could just mean he's calling and they answered the phone. Doesn't mean they are interested at all. He said he's been "in contact" with Detroit, and Detroit said they don't have the interest.

What he's describing is that he is a telemarketer. He's calling them cuz he has something to sell. Are you interested in everything a telemarketer is selling?

Former Titans and Cowboys cornerback Pacman Jones said Friday that he's still talking to the Bengals, but it sounds like they haven't been in negotiations with him since after his February workout and there don't appear to be any immediate plans to work him out again.

Marvin Lewis said that the team has talked with the agent for Adam "Pacman" Jones but that is the extent of it.

During a radio interview on Friday, Jones said that the Bengals are one of four teams that he is talking to about signing. Jones was here for a workout on Feb. 11 and held an open workout in New Orleans for teams in March.

"Adam's agent can't help but speak with him since he calls quite a bit," Lewis said. "That would be a true statement that Adam made. I have not spoke with Adam but his agent does call and we have returned the call. We'll see what happens. If somebody we feel can help us then we'll continue to look."

Report: Bengals work out Pacman again
GEOFF HOBSON

Updated: 12:20 p.m.

The Bengals worked out controversial cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones Tuesday, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer.

It's the second time Jones has worked out for the Bengals this offseason, and indications were he looked much better than he did back in February.

But the defensive back that could get most of the club's interest after he worked out Tuesday is six-year safety Gibril Wilson. Wilson has started 80 games for three clubs since the Giants drafted him in the fifth rounbd out of Tennessee in 2004.

There are also indications the Bengals have signed tryout punter Jake Richardson out of Miami of Ohio. Richardson flashed an NFL leg in last weekend's rookie camp, but also battled inconsistency.

The Enquirer reported Monday night that the Bengals signed tryout running back LaMarcus Coker out of Tennessee.

On Tuesday afternoon the Bengals were looking into the arrest of wide receiver Maurice Purify early Tuesday morning. According to various radio and TV reports Purify was arrested about 2 a.m. in Newport Ky., at the bar Jefferson Hall. According to the Channel 5 web site, a Newport police report says they broke up a fight inside the bar and made several people leave the bar. Wen an officer walked out the back door of the bar he found Purify fighting with at least one other person, the site said.

Posted by jreedy May 4th, 2010, 11:53 am

Two days after saying that the Bengals have had conversations with the agents for Adam "Pacman" Jones comes word that the oft troubled cornerback is in town for his second workout in three months.

Pacman worked out for the Bengals on Feb. 11, which was also the same workout that wide receiver Matt Jones participated. He has not played since 2008 in Dallas when he played in nine games with 31 tackles. That season included a four-game suspension by the NFL due to another violation of the Personal Conduct Policy.

When asked what he could lend to a team, Pacman said during an interview: "I think at the corner position I can turn around a team. Also at the punt return also. Whichever one that I end up at, I'll do my best to be the best. I don't think that I do one or the other, I'm going to lack catching punts or kicks because I am playing corner. I don't think that's going to happen. I'm in shape now. I'm ready man. I'm eager to see what's going to happen."

Said coach Marvin Lewis on Sunday about Pacman: "I have not spoke with Adam but his agent does call and we have returned the call. We'll see what happens. If somebody we feel can help us then we'll continue to look."
