The only thing that bugs me about this move is the timing. Does this have to come down the same day Maurice Purify gets arrested??

my thoughts as well...if ben wants to get his rape on again today is probablly the day...ESPN will be too busy with bashing the bengals to find time to mention it

Updated: 4:35 p.m.

An NFL source said Tuesday that cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones is mulling an offer from the Bengals and has gone home to New Orleans to discuss it with his family. The source also said that he liked his visit and the coaches well enough that indications are he'll return to Cincinnati later in the week to ink the deal.

But the source said nothing is agreed to and nothing has been signed.

In an e-mail sent at 4:20 p.m., Jones' agent, Worrick Robinson, didn't confirm a deal but said he continues to talk to the club.

"Adam had an excellent workout today and a meaningful visit (with) Coach (Marvin) Lewis and others," Robinson said. " We are staying in contact with the Bengals' front office to discuss any offer afforded. Any opportunity in Cincinnati would be a great fit for Adam, given the outstanding reputation of the team, coaches and the fans and the style of defense played."

Jones worked out for the Bengals a second time this offseason on Tuesday and indications were he looked much better than he did back in February. He looked good enough that he got the offer and fast enough that he fits into defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer's pressure packages that demand man-to-man play.

I wish people would learn the rules of the practice squad.

Sheesh..... I'm sure you missed it, but I already said I forgot about the full year on 53 / 9 games part. I was / am at work and posted quickly without thinking it all the way through...

Anyways, the point is that the current receivers (mainly Shipley) plus pacman is going to make it awfully tough to justify keeping Quan on the team (since he can't be on the PS) unless he comes in and tears it up.

It sounds like this is going to happen. Pacman may not be top elite Champ Bailey back in the day and Revis currently type CB. I got all the confidence in the world he will be an excellent no. 3 CB and if injury should happen step in as No. 2 and play well. Return game goes through the roof.

Pacman is overrated if you are signing like the Cowboys did and actually think you were getting a superstar. He's got the tools. This guy can play nickel and no. 2 CB all day long.

So let the question begin. Media licking balls of the New York Jets Secondary. Do the Bengals have the better group? CBs 1-4 and Safety?

Reports: Pacman Jones Close to Signing With Bengals

5/04/2010 4:55 PM ET
By Josh Alper

They say leopards can't change their spots. It appears that Bengals can't change their stripes, either.

Adam "Pacman" Jones will sign with the Bengals in the near future, according to multiple reports, led by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. The cornerback worked out for the team on Monday, the second time that he's visited them this offseason, and it seems that the potential for him to help the defense outweighs the cargo hold full of baggage Jones brings with him.

Jones couldn't ask for a better landing spot, at least in terms of a team willing to overlook copious amounts of baggage. The Bengals have a long history of welcoming players with checkered pasts, including Matt Jones, the former Jaguars wide receiver who they signed earlier this offseason. Neither Jones played at all during the 2009 season and both of them missed time during the 2008 season because of suspensions related to their off-field indiscretions.

Even for the Bengals, though, Jones represents a big step. He's played only nine games in the last three years because of the fallout from the infamous shooting outside a Las Vegas strip club in 2007. He was suspended for the entire 2007 season, was suspended again in 2008 for an alcohol-related fight with one of his own bodyguards and, after the Cowboys released him following that season, was treated like he was toxic by all 32 teams last season.

Predicting how much Pacman will actually contribute to the Bengals defense is a bit difficult. They return a pair of steady starters in Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph and also have 2009 contributors Rico Murray and Morgan Trent on the roster. The Bengals also drafted Brandon Ghee in the third round last month. You can never have enough cornerbacks, or so the saying goes, but Jones isn't a sure bet to be a regular next season.

At his full capabilities, there's little chance that Jones wouldn't find his way to at least third on that depth chart but he's played so little in the last three years that there's no way to know exactly what to expect.

Two days after saying acknowledging that there had been conversations about Adam "PacMan" Jones, it looks as if the Bengals are on the verge of signing the oft troubled cornerback.

Jones was in town for his second workout with the team in three months. That workout went well and both sides are working toward an agreement that could be finalized sometime this week.

He first worked out for the Bengals on Feb. 11, which was also the same workout that wide receiver Matt Jones participated. He has played in just nine games since 2006, when he spent the 2008 season in Dallas and had 31 tackles. He missed the 2007 season and four games in 2008 due to violations of the NFL's Personal Conduct Policy.

On Sunday, coach Marvin Lewis said that he had spoken with Jones' agent but had not spoken directly to PacMan until Tuesday. Said Lewis at the time: "We'll see what happens. If somebody we feel can help us then we'll continue to look."

The deal is expected to be for around the league minimum but have plenty of incentives built in that could push the amount higher.

How the hell does what Marvin said there turn into "He is against the signing and it
was a Mike Brown move/power play?

Update: Jones mulls Bengals; Agent
GEOFF HOBSON

Updated: 5:30 p.m.

Later Robinson said that no formal offer has been tendered, but one is expected and that he is hopeful that it comes together in Cincinnati because of the defensive style.

Jones worked out for the Bengals a second time this offseason on Tuesday and indications were he looked much better than he did back in February. He looked good enough that he got the offer and fast enough that he fits into defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer's pressure packages that demand man-to-man play.

Zimmer says he mentioned Jones' name back after last season because, "You can never have enough good corners." Zimmer coached Deion Sanders in Dallas and he's still close with the future Hall-of-Famer, and Sanders has been telling Zimmer that Jones has turned his life around and will play for him.

Zimmer doesn't know if the Bengals are going to sign Jones, but he was impressed with how Jones looked Tuesday compared to February. Zimmer said he was so undisciplined in the drills that he threatened to leave the field that day.

"But he was very disciplined today. That was impressive. He did everything the way we asked him to do it and he looked good doing it," Zimmer said. "It was kind of a promise. We told him back in February if he did what he was supposed to do and got in shape, we'd look at him again in April. We're a few days late but he looked good. You can tell he's been working. He weighed 12 to 15 more pounds than the last time and he looked fast."

But his off-field problems have cost him two full seasons, '07 and '09. Jones, the sixth pick in the '05 draft, has only played nine games since 2006 and, as Zimmer says, "As a football player, we don't know what we've got. But if we hit it, it's a home run."

Zimmer has made it quite clear.

"We've got a bunch of strong character guys on defense," Zimmer said. "I'm not going to let this kid screw up our chemistry. I don't think he will. He looked me in the eye and shook my hand and said, 'Coach, I just want to play.' He seems very humble. He seems to understand."

But Zimmer also reiterated he doesn't know if Jones is going to sign.

Chris Henry was a totally different situation.

Henry's fuck ups were under Marvin. Marvin knew the player very well.

And Marvin didn't tell the press anything like he did before Henry was re-signed.

And Marvin being against Henry coming back was, and stiill is extremly overblown.
especially when he was one of the main factors in bringing henry back lol. making a big statement in the media was simply keeping henry in his place to keep him from thinking he'd be alright with time. marvin was on the phone with him often making sure he was getting his life turned around after they cut him.

for once, Jamie and I agree.

I'm all for taking risks on guys who have turned the corner. I've seen no indication that Pacman has done so.
he hasnt been in trouble since october 7th 2008 (much longer stretch than henry went) and that was a shove with his bodyguard and before that it was in 2007. that seems like more indication than they had on the henry front and i was fully behind the henry move as well.

Eh...why not? Media already hates us anyways.

As far as Marvin, hes probably in a win win situation. If the bengals do well with all these guys and make a solid playoff run, he gets a big deal from the bengals (or any other team if we dont pay him enough).

If the season goes up in flames, then Marvin while negotiating contracts with other GMs/owners can use things like this in order to show why he wasnt as successful as he could have been in Cincinnati.

So I def think Marvin is on board. And Im on board for whatever gets us wins, and pacman if anywhere near his potential is by far our best option as a 3rd cb.

Bathroom Rapelisberger has raped 2 women since the last time Pacman has been in trouble.

If Pacman is signed, it will be for competition and depth. He will be cheap, hungry and have
a lot to prove. And if he doesn't work out, he will be cut and no one will blink.

I hope they sign him AND T.O.

FTW! Give us the Lombardi!

I trust Zimmer, so if it's what he wants, so be it.

This move will have to pan out on the field before I can pretend to be excited about it, though.
