MJ re-signs
26th pick ( based on Vegas odds )
No comp picks considered (league wide)
Using CBS prospect Rankings

1-26) Justin Gilbert CB OKST (26 CBS rank)- CB's are aging and he provides PR/KR upgrade immediately. He's not my favorite CB in this draft but Dennard is gone.

2-52) Shayne Skov ILB STAN (58)- BPA. Despite personnel and scheme, Zimmer could find a spot for this guy. Instinctive, mean and athletic. Watch his play in the Oregon-Stanford game from this year and I dare you not to say 'wow' at least once.

3-78) Dominique Easley DE/DT FLA (82)- Has the versatility to be a perfect fit in the DL rotation. A try hard guy with really good/great burst. Reminds me of Geno. Injury pushes him down the board.

4-104) Gabe Jackson OG MSST (113)- He's a very large, functionally strong man with plus movement ability. Needs to be nastier or he'd go much higher.

5-130) Morgan Moses OT UVA (130)- Another big guy with good feet. There are concerns that his weight could get out of control, but the team has experience dealing with that.

6-156) Logan Thomas QB VATECH (180)- He was a big disappointment this year in Blacksburg. He's got Newton size. This kid is nothing but upside. If given the opportunity to come in and learn for a few years I think he could be a great QB2, trade chip, replacement for Dalton. The key would be not to rush him.

7-182) Michael Dyer RB LOU (296)- Yep, the same Dyer who shredded the SEC his Fr and Soph years. He got into trouble and was booted from Auburn and Alabama St. but has resurfaced at Louisville. He was so good early in his collegiate career, I'd take a flier this late and hope he can complement Gio.

I can dig that.

Only change I'd make, while I'm a big Skov fan, I think you try to grab a difference making return specialist in the 2nd round or you grab a higher DE.

The Gilbert pick snags arguably the top returner in college football. That way he can be eased in defensively but contribute immediately on ST's. Two birds, one stone.

Obviously it's really early but I'm not enamored with any of the DE's that could be available at 26 or 52. Murphy is interesting but I'll bet he goes before we get a chance. Tuitt would be the ideal candidate for his versatility but I think Easley can be every bit as good and possibly at a discount.

I hope MJ re-signs, but I just cannot see it.  Especially now with Burfict coming up.  Yikes.  From a 4-12 team to an embarrassment of riches.  Speaks to how well this franchise has been running.

I do like the idea of a first round corner.  I would love to snatch Kyle Van Noy somewhere as well.  He has had a really down year, but he is a nice playmaker off the edge.

1. Good pick.

2. Good pick

3. Don't know enough about him, but he does not strike me as a DE build, and we are loaded at DT.

4. I have seen him mocked in the first round recently.

5. OK

6. OK

7. Did Dyer get hurt?  He hasn't played at all since mid October.  And he played sparingly when he did.  I don't think you would need to use a draft pick on him.

One guy that could fit the mold from the DE spot:

Kareem Martin, UNC.   He was more quiet than expected the last few years but turned it on this season.  Probably a bit of an underachieving label, like some other DE's around here had in College.  He's been all over the place, starting the season as a late-rounder all the way to sniffing the first in some mocks now...

If, like a Dunlap or Johnson, he were to fall to the bottom of the 2nd or 3rd, he might be worth it.

The best that we can hope for for MJ is that his less than eye-popping numbers this year bring his market value down, and he's content to stay with the team for a price that they can afford.  I think he's done a bang up job as a run-stopper, but still, I can't say that I wouldn't mind seeing a little more production out of our speed rusher.

when have the Bengals ever made getting a "difference making return specialist" a priority?

that's just not their m.o. at all ......not even close actually.

Sad but mostly true.

It's pretty hard for me to sit back and watch Cordarelle Patterson this season, especially after Gruden scratches his head and publicly asks himself why Eifert has 50 fewer catches at this point in the season than he expected.

Talk about two birds with one stone. Actually, I think wr is the ideal position to run back kicks because you'll still always have AJ, and starting caliber CBs will never return on this team.

CB's Gilbert and Colvin playing in the early game.

Another guy to watch tonight in the OSU-MSU game is Max Bullough ILB #40 for MSU. He's big, fills against the run and, from what I've seen, is adequate with upside (sometimes he "loses his placement" in zone) in coverage.

I know this was prior to the new KO rules, but I believe they were set on taking Hester if he made it to them in that second round.  That was a long time ago, but still Marvin era.

I seem to remember hearing something like that. They also tried to sign Ginn this offseason.

Early in the season Marvin said he thought McCalebb would make an impact before the end of the season.  I wonder if he still thinks that.

Pretty good mock. I'm not sure about the LB in the 2nd. Just seems like the Bengals really like Rey M and obviously Burfict has the other starting spot locked up long term.

Then you add in Vinny Rey, Emmanuel Lamur, Sean Porter, Jayson Dimanche, James Harrison, etc.

Just doesn't seem like a real need. Especially for an inside guy. I could see a pass rush type.
