Ja'Marr Chase provided some bulletin-board material last week, referring to the Cleveland Browns as "elfs."

On Sunday, after his Bengals lost 24-3 to the Browns, Chase doubled down, providing further bulletin-board material for Cincinnati's division rivals.

"I'm just frustrated because I called their ass elves, and we lost to some elves," Chase said. "I'm pissed on my part. I'm pissed on that end."

When asked about any blowback from his "elves" comments, Chase had this to say.

"If they’ve got a problem with something I’m saying right now, they soft," Chase continued. "If they’re soft when you’re saying elves, they’re soft, then."

Again, Chase's Bengals lost by 21 points. Cincinnati's offense was abysmal while getting outgained 350 yards to 142. Bengals punter Brad Robbins nearly tripled his team's offensive output with 409 yards on 10 punts. Chase, a two-time Pro Bowler in two NFL seasons, tallied 39 yards on five catches.

How did this all start?

In case you missed it, here's what kicked off all the elven commentary.

"It's a regular game to me," Chase said Thursday. "It don't feel no different. It's the hoopin' and hollering about the Cleveland, um, Browns. I was about to call them the 'Elfs.' ... If you ask me, I don’t really pay attention to it because Cleveland is Cleveland.”

Also, in case you missed it, here's Brownie the Elf, Cleveland's mascot and the inspiration for Chase's trash talk.

Browns players didn't miss it. They were quick to regurgitate Chase's comments in the aftermath of Sunday's win.

They surely didn't miss his postgame commentary either. The Browns and Bengals will meet again in Week 18, where playoff implications will potentially be at stake for both teams.

Those Elves put an Orc-sized ass whupping on the Bengals, but Jamarr could only do so much. With Burrow playing like he did, there was not much he could do.

JaMarr's shit-talking game is weak tho...Elves...really. He's got to step it up, he should link up with Cincinnati natives Katt Williams and Gary Owens to get some lessons.

Disappointing man. This guy came into the league as red hot as they come. We're heading in the wrong direction here. Year three and the only thing that bothers him about the team humiliating themselves is the trash talking element? And here's the thing, I know he'll be back better than ever. The team will too. I'm sure we'll be in the playoff hunt at bare minimum. This game and the trash talk it generated will be forgotten after many, many other events unfold. But it counts. It can help add up to missing out on yet another ring. Eli Apple, during the offseason, said he was going to continue talking trash. That it was a game to him. He enjoyed it. THAT IT DIDN'T MATTER IF HE BACKED IT UP.  I was quite pleased when they let him go. It signaled that the front office was serious. For years I've contended that it's the intangibles that end up making the difference. The stuff nobody remembers or ends up talking too much about. When is the franchise, from top to bottom, going to crave a championship like they crave their next breath?  These guys devote themselves maniacally to conditioning, study, and practice, which can't be denied and has to be respected. But championship mindset and attitude just seems to be missing sometimes. How can you lose like that and waste an ounce of energy and attention on this nonsense?  We're getting there, but the Bengal brass needs to keep tightening a few screws.

This rings true to me.  They need to learn how to handle success.
