At the risk of hi-jacking the culturally enriching twist this thread has taken...

Either they gave newly-signed practice squad RB Gary Brightwell a blank jersey, or the person in charge of updating the Bengals' website got arrested last week and hasn't made bail yet. Anybody know what jersey # Brightwell's been given?

BTW, that rabbit's dynamite!

I knew there had to be a third possible explanation. Probably right.

FWIW, I believe CB Jalen Davis currently has #35.

Yeah you're right, missed him in the PS section.  Maybe whoever wins a stick fight gets to keep it?

Calvin and Hobbes Comic Strip for November 17, 2024

One of my all-time favorite comics. Actually inspired me once to build a 5-foot high, 2-headed snowman on the front lawn just to crack my older brother up. (see Calvin's "Snowman House of Horrors")

Mission accomplished.

The Chargers are giving up 13,1 pts a game.

That would rate with some if the all time best.

They'll test our offense in many ways..

Our offense is more dynamic as Herbert now whittles it down field

Chargers are doing it with presure and zone, joe is the #1 qb in nfl history against zone (truly), this is a tough one, as with facing zone having as many options as possible to hit quickly is ideal, but with our line and their rushers, having guys back to help block is ideal. so finding the proper balance to keep joe on his feet and have the options to hit guys fast is going to be tough. now if with help blocking we can hit guys deep, its fucking over.

Their DB's are fucking terrible, but they are salvaged to look GOOD even by the front 7. Bosa is getting healthier, so i hate him facing Mims, we will serve help as needed imsure, but both ends need it and they have great interior rushers, so volson and cappa about to have a terrible fucking time.

We should win this game and I don't think it's close. We will get blown out. They are fundamentally solid with a great defense and make things easy on offense. They are everything we want to be. IMO this is the beginning of the end. We will be 4-7 and exposed. It will be clear that we don't have a coach that can compete with Baltimore-Pittsburgh-LAC-KC-DEN and Buffalo....and I hope we go to a reset this offseason.

At 4-7 with the bye and 6 games to go I hope we start seeing what we have in the youth.

-Matt Lee starts at C with Karras at G

-Anthony and Anderson get some run at safety (Anthony somehow only has 11 snaps this year)

-Newton gets some run at Nickel

-Murphy takes over as starter at DE

lee over karras is pointless since karras is back next year
anthony has been playing already, no reason to play anderson really ever, he is just a guy he isnt a plan for the future

Newton to nickel also isnt that important, if thats a plan it can be had in the offseason and preseason. and hilton would probably be cheap enough to keep if they desire, being 31 next year

murphy earning less and less snaps as the season drags on is probably everything we need to know about him, his snaps have been cut in half.

Chargers have a good running game… Gus Edwards is back and JK Dobbins has played well overall. Both guys are good at YAC, which isn’t a good recipe for the porous Bengals’ D. Their WR corps is pretty good… McConkey is very talented as a slot guy, and Quentin Johnston is good as well, but he’s inconsistent. They have several very good young OL, including two high picks at OT in Alt and Slater. Harbaugh teams put a premium on physicality, and this team is no exception. I expect them to try and pound the Bengals on the ground.

On D, the Chargers have a good front 7 with guys like Joey Bosa, Tuipolotu, and Mack… and Derwin James is a difference maker at S. But the LAC CBs and LBs in coverage are meh, and if the Bengals can keep Joe upright, they can/will make some hay there.

run game is solid, i didnt have time to watch much film but all of their offensive stats are muted, is it because their defense sets them up with short fields? is it because they dont score much in genenral? is it both? they may only give up 19 points per game but they are also only scoring 20.7 per game. which is why they are a game over .500.

looks like Mack is still out yeah? that front 7 is wicked.

WDYM? Soft zone coverage and a 3-man rush are the obvious call when you have the NFL's sack leader at DE and a slow secondary.

like PBS will be on the air a year from now. losing 10% viewership every year for a decade. and thats counting streaming views and app streams. its basically already a dead channel which is terrible, but we have idiots raising idiots now, so what good is PBS if everyone is just playing candy crush.

they make game jerseys for everyone on PS as soon as they are on the roster just in case, which is why i own a gang of Color rush jerseys of practice squad guys that never were active for color rush games, they just keep them on deck in case of last minute call up.

Any idea when they have to report those PS numbers?  I'd never even heard of Gary Brightwell but now I'm curious as to how that works.

to the league immediately, now how it trickles down to a public source, like the website, just a matter of someone caring enough to hop on it, the only hold up would be if someone was trying to buy a number off another player and team was holding tight to see how it goes, but thats VERY unlikely the case, here but who knows. two PS level guys having a number dispute would be pretty unheard of.

Oh, I'm sorry, did I offend the NFL's worst FS? If he doesn't want to hear comments like that, maybe he could f***ing cover someone.

How dare we offend the 4-6 team who just folded up 27-10 by saying they're not good. How mean.

Sucking and then complaining about the criticism is such a beta move. The problem isn't that I sh*t the bed, the problem is that other people keep talking about how much it stinks. If you were a real fan you'd be telling me it was the greatest bed sh*tting you've ever seen and would encourage me to take an even bigger sh*t next time. But no, you're all just "Who ate f***ing Chipotle??" It really hurts my feelings man. I thought you were a better person than that.

My apologies to Geno Stone. If he's within shouting distance of any Chargers offensive players tonight, I hope they relay that message to him. Although... Maybe I should hire a blimp to be sure.

Kinda odd that the PS guys need official numbers at all, seems like they could reserve those until someone makes the active roster

no no no no, these are thankless low income positions of guys mimmikcing other teams offenses and defenses al lweek to help the starting roster, the walk on if you will, they deserve every perk they can be given, even if its just for families and personal satisfaction, it means the entire world.

from my experience, my kid playing college basketball, last year he didnt even get a jersey, redshirt freshman arent cared about, and they have 30+ players, and that league only does numbers that can be displayed with 2 hands by officials to the scoring table, so like 0/1/2/3/4/5/10/11/12/13/14/15/20/21/22/23/24/25 etc. like 16 cant be shown with 2 hands at once, so it doesnt exist.

so not enough jerseys. and being one of like 5 guys without a number sucks, its a mental hit, no one needs to work harder than those players and they are borderline shunned, not given protien and protein shakers the other dudes get for free, its totally fucked. 90% of those players bail and quit the sport. my kid worked his ass off and is now palying 15-18 minutes per game, best defender on the court, but it was a tough go when he was "lesser than". just give dudes numbers and treat them with respect. thats all people want.

When the meal tastes like crap, I don't need to know what happened in the kitchen.

Again... Total beta move. I can't help but be reminded of Katie yelling at fans about the same thing. "You guys don't understand how hard this is!" Boo-Hoo. It's hard for everyone, and you're obviously underperforming.

When you're 4-6... What is there to "understand". When the other side of the ball has the leagues top QB and WR, what is there to "understand"? I don't get the subtle nuances of why you have a losing record?? I didn't check the asterisk that isn't there? Half a season isn't a large enough sample size? Exactly what don't I get about a 48.1 PFF grade? What don't I get about the 31st ranked defense?

Complaining about the well deserved criticism is weak. So I hope once he's done crying and eating an entire pint of Chunky Monkey, he silences the criticism by strapping on his big boy pants and playing some football. Go play a good game and I will STFU. In fact, I'd love nothing better than to praise Geno Stone. Give me a reason. Because the talking he's doing on the field makes "you don't know what you're talking about" a damn punchline to a bad joke.

"Hi, waiter, my steak is over cooked, there's a hair in my soup, and my salad is covered in blood."

"Yeah, well, you don't know what you're talking about."

Fake News. We won that game, by a LOT. I mean, it was a landslide. We have one of the best defenses in the league. It's Rodger Goodell and the Capitalist, Marxist, Sunkist, degenerate Refs cheating. They are sick, sick people. Sad. #MBSA

that's interesting, and legit.  the way we can suddenly find ourselves relying on these PS dudes its good if they're invested.
