Colts Game Recap/Analysis

Recommended Posts

3 straight winning seasons for #Bengals for 1st time since 1975 (11-3), 1976 (10-4) and 1977 (8-6). 2nd time franchise history.

under Dalton the Bengals have been to the playoffs in three straight season.

under Palmer the Bengals have been to playoffs twice in fours years.

so now now the question needs to be asked, who got the better of that trade Palmer are the Bengals?

Opening observations
*9-4 with 3 games to go.
*Browns beat Pats. Bengals control own destiny for 2nd seed, bye + home playoff game.
*Bengals hold tiebreakers over Pats and Colts.
*Bengals 6-0 home. Undefeated at home in 1973, 1982 (4-0 strike), 1988.
*3 straight winning seasons 1st time since 1975 (11-3), 1976 (10-4) and 1977 (8-6). 2nd time franchise history.
*Nice to see O put D on shoulders for a change.
*42, 41, 49 Bengals points last three games at PBS.
*Bengals 3 games of 40+ points at home is a franchise record for a season.
*Last time Bengals scored 40+ at least three times season: 1981...41 at Balt, 40 at SD, 41 at Cleveland.
*Colts 2nd least penalized team this year...but 2 killer personal fouls Sunday....penalties led to 5 first downs for Bengals.
*AJ/Marvin 8 TD catches each. Last time 2 #Bengals had at least 8 TD catches same season: TJ 12, Chad 8 in 2007.
*Dalton better head-to-head QB rating than Luck, Ben, Brady, Rodgers, Stafford and Rivers.
*Neither team committed turnover...neither team had a sack.
*Paging Robert Mathis, paging Robert Mathis.

Offense
*Andy: 24 of 35, 275 yards, 3 TD/3 receivers: Green, Jones, Gresham. QB rating: 120.5
*Andy keep and score! 41-21.
*A do-it-all day for Gio. Wow. 12 rushes 99 yards, 4 catches 49 yards….148 total yards.
*Rushed 35 times/155 yards (4.4)
*Three straight 40+ performances at home.
*Nice answer after Colts cut 21-14...60 yard drive....Andy to Gresh, 28-14.
*Andy to AJ, TD, 35-14, like taking candy from a baby.
*Andy 5 for 5 start, got AJ/Gresh involved
*Marvin Jones 29-yards on beauty from Dalton, TD...8th. Great extension MJ.
*Andy with another 29-yard beauty to Jones
*10 plays/83 yards, TD, opening drive...Dalton 6 of 7.
*4th and Goal TD? BJGE, I'll take it. 14-0. Triplette didn't see the trip up?
*Dalton: 21 of 32, 288 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT combined 2nd half SD/1st half Indy.
*BJGE TD run, 21-0.,...9 plays/80 yards start 2nd half
*Andy hit 7 of 9 players targeted.
*6 of 12 on 3rd down.
*I think this Whit at LG thing might just work.

Defense
*excellent 3rd down: 2 of 10
*Big 3 and out after offense gave 28-14 lead.
*Reggie Nelson/Adam Jones miss Rogers by not wrapping, 69 yds, 21-7.
*really weak effort/6 missed tackles=19-yard TD pass Luck to Brazill, 21-14.
*Luck 1st visiting QB to throw multiple TD since Peyton Manning, November 4, last year.
*Brandon Thompson nice deflection on screen
*Adam Jones 3rd down PBU twice in 1st QT
*3rd down pressure Gilberry forced incompletion
*Big pressure/hit James Harrison
*Beauty deflection Reggie Nelson on what looked like TD pass
*Vinny 3rd down coverage vs Fleener forces incompletion
*Luck hit 9 of 10 players targeted.
*Iloka out with head injury. Newman out knee injury.

Special Teams
*Dre delivered again.
*Huber 59 yard bomb, 30 yard not bomb, 70 yard rocket....2 touch backs entering game/2 touch backs Sunday.
*Why did Tate run ball out? Then returned next KO 44-yards...
*Tate 43 yard PR...blocks JK and Alex Smith.

Nice job by Colts rookie WR whom nobody wanted and the Bills discarded.  If only the Browns can get a field goal now...

somebody wanted him.

#Bengals ran it 35 times. Bengals passed it 35 times. #balance

sweet

Pool report on the Green-Ellis touchdown — “There was nobody that touched him at the goal line."

ahem, one dumbass suggested that in the game day thread. yeah, think it was just one.

Great win today.  Hung 42 points on a playoff team.  Maybe not a very good team right now, but that shows that we are maturing.  Last year, I think that team would have folded up and let the Colts come back after momentum swung.  This year, we have Gio and more grit.  Just awesome.

Think we are going to have to win out if we want that two seed.  I think this team can do it.

marvin mentioned how proud he was of them facing adversity and adjusting to it in his post game team speech. i just love when they take the cameras down there after a win.
