Also plays during GL packages TE Tyler Kroft - 18 Rec 131 yards 1 TD LB Paul Dawson - 107 tackles 2 sacks 2 INTs. Starts from day 1 DT Marcus Hardison - 14 tackles 2.5 sacks. Mainly comes in on passing situations CB Josh Shaw - 21 tackles 1 INT. Special teams gunner and also sees time in Dime packages. TE CJ Uzomah - 5 Rec 36 yards. Inactive most of the season S Derron Smith - 8 tackles Special teamer inactive part of the season. WR Mario Alford - 14 Rec 153 yards 1 receiving TD, 1 Return TD. Full time kickoff return specialist. Also special packages for him on offense. So whats your thought on each rookie going into the season? Im sure I went a little overboard with some of them but would like to hear your thoughts. Le Tigre
Welcome, Howdy. Pretty much sums up where I would see them. A glorified red shirt for most it seems, but that has been the mode for this franchise in the recent past an d it has worked for the most part. scharm
Ced will be on PUP and then not be active until after week 13. Fischer starts at RT. Just taking a wild stab that something is up Tyler Kroft will grab 30 balls as someone has to get Gresh's drag routes Dawson - day 1 starter

I think those are all realistic expectations except for Dawson, assuming Tez is healthy. If Tez plays I could still see Dawson getting 60 tackles or so. happyrid
Welcome. I think you're a little too high on Dawson, but I'm also probably more optimistic than most about Burfict's health situation. I think missing 6-8 games is a possibility, but that he's more likely to be ready Week 1. Whether it's Week 1 or Week 7, he'll be the WLB and Rey M. is going to be the MLB. We only play a 3rd LB about 25% of the time, so even if Dawson beats out Lamur, Rey, Hawk and company for the starting SLB and/or the nickel LB role, that's still not enough snaps to get 100+ tackles. Not sure on Kroft's stats, but I think he's the only other draft pick to make a big impact as a rookie. He's going to get a lot of snaps and even if he's primarily a run blocker, he should still get a couple receptions a game and I could see him grabbing 3 or 4 TDs too. Everyone else would need at least one or two injuries at their position to make an impact on offense or defense. Shaw, Alford and Dawson should all be key special teamers though. big_dish
I think Dawson starts at LB regardless if Burfict is in or not. He is instantly better than Lemur. I like all the projections. I used to be the type to think we drafted a bunch of first year studs, but I've wised up to that over the years, especially with the Bengals virtually guaranteed to take a VERY high selection as a project every year. I don't think 80-90 tackles is out of the question for Dawson, even if Burfict plays. This is based on an opening day LB corps of - Dawson (WILL), Burfict (MIKE), Hawk (SAM, running downs)/Lemur (SAM, passing downs).

I'd be happy to not see Maualuga on the field but there's no way Hawk plays ahead of Rey M. I'd also prefer to see Vinnie Rey playing ahead of Hawk. I'll guess we start Dawson-Maualuga-Rey with Burfict on PUP.
MaineBengal
There will be some variation, but to begin the season I predict the 4-3 backers to be Dawson at Will, Hawk at Sam and Maualuga at Mike. I think the nickel backers will be Dawson and Lamur. I think Burfict starts the year on PUP and might miss the entire year. If he comes back, then things will change.
