The Bengals attempted a trick play during the fourth quarter against the Jaguars that left NFL fans confused, but perhaps none were more baffled than Peyton Manning.

Watching the game on ESPN’s Manningcast, Manning was exasperated after Cincinnati dialed up a similar trick play to one they had failed to execute earlier in the game.

The Bengals took the ball out of Jake Browning’s hands, despite the backup quarterback having the best game of his career, and opted to run a trick play involving a cross-field pass from Tyler Boyd.

Boyd hazardously threw the ball across the middle of the field, which proved to be a brutal mistake as Jacksonville’s undefined was able to intercept it with ease and set the Jaguars up with some prime field position.

Manning was enraged after the catastrophic trick play and he ripped into the Bengals for their play-calling.

“What are we doing? Why are they not letting Browning throw? My mic just fell off...” said Manning. “Browning hasn’t thrown an incompletion and we have two receivers throwing passes. One [Ja’Marr Chase] throws a back shoulder... to Browning and this guy [Boyd] throws it right to the D-lineman.”

Eli Manning and guest Kay Adams were equally confused by the Bengals’ play-calling, though Peyton was certainly the most animated, clearly not a fan of the Bengals’ adventurous decision-making on offense.

At the time of the play, Browning had completed 19-of-21 passes, lending further confusion as to why Cincinnati had twice opted to call for passes from wide receivers.

Taylor needs to be held accountable for this, it made the game much closer than it should have been because of it. Play calls like that is how you snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Hopefully, the local press will at least ask him what was he thinking when he called the 2nd trick play from the Bengals 25-yard line after the first trick play was a failure that cost the team 3 points.

Agree 1000. %Boyd has a decent arm was a high school qb But throw the ball downfield and never across the field I saw him throw a nice pass vs miami in a game last season but in that situation that was plain foolish

Why?  Because we're Bengals, Son.

Im going with the mostly baseless theory that Mikey likes trick plays because his Ivy League education got him thinking it's a chess match when it's really a headbutting contest.

It would explain Bratfailski and the Ketchup Whisperer at least.

Your right about trick plays when the team was doing alright without them.

His overall playcalling was exceptional thruout the game ..

I believe Jake not audibling proved to

be the game changer

Outside of those two "trick plays" Taylor called a good game, if he just sticks to the script and doesn't try to out-razzle dazzle the competition. The Bengals have enough talent to out-execute the competition and make plays when the opportunity presents itself.

Maybe he was trying to get one over on baby bro and have bragging rights...it was odd. Hopefully he learns a lesson from this and improves going forward.
