I will be disappointed if we don’t make the playoffs and the odds back my pessimism.  It is highly unlikely.  However, the season ended on a very high note especially the defense.  What frustrates me about Lou is why did it take him so long to:

1.  Realize the defense was too complicated and he needed to dumb it down

2.  Start a youth movement trusting the youngsters more.  I understand this is congruent with the prior point.  The question needs to be ask

3.  Relying on Hubbard and Bell too much

I believe Lou saved his job but he was too late fixing these issues.  It probably cost us the playoffs.  Great coaches would be more decisive on these decisions.  However, the defense isn’t great but I am more optimistic about the future today than I was six weeks ago.  We have some players on the defensive line and in the secondary like newton, battle, Jenkins, McKinley, and some others showed up at the end of the season.

For me, them turning it on at the last minute is more frustrating because it shows they were capable.  If they don't drop to 4-8 they wouldn't need to stage some miraculous comeback only to hang their hopes on Carson Wentz & so on.

I have a hard time congratulating them for doing something once they're in a hole that they should have been doing all season. Maybe consider next time let's not dig the hole in the first place instead of slapping backs for halfway climbing out of it.

I'm pretty encouraged by our rookie DTs but still want to add a 3rd guy so we can have a solid rotation. I'm a big believer the defense was a top unit when it had Reader, Ogunjobi, and Hill as the 3rd.

We should add 2. One more each of 1 and 3 tech. Ideally, I'd like one of them to be a top 2 round pick.

Congrats to Chase, incredible performance. The league's WR1. Boy oh boy is his price tag high

Seems like we should have paid him last offseason

Dont think we can fix both lines in one year, we need Guards to protect Joe too. But with Hill and Rankins leaving I don't disagree, just not sure you can get two in one year.

I think we need CB1, DE2, DT3, both G spots (hehe). Thats a lot to fill in one year especially if we are keeping Tee....and I want to keep Tee.

My big hope right now is that part of the DC search includes thinking about guys with strong relationships to a star FA or two who wants a ring, believes in the D-Coordinator, and sees the combo of that coach and Joe Burrow as their path to the Super Bowl. This is an important strategic play, I think. Same could apply to new position coaches across the board.

That's a LOT on the to-do list...Bengals cannot afford any further regression and flush another Burrow/Chase/Hendrickson season down the toilet. Zac could be feeling the heat next year...

When I say fix, I mean fix to the point we are a championship level team and not a team that is competing for a playoff spot. I think you can get back in the playoffs in one year, I don't know that we would be considered favorites in one year.

A lot of talk about Lou and Zac (rightfully so) but I think Pitch did a pretty good job as OC

Completely agree with this. The more use of 12 man sets in particular was a welcome change.
