PORTER TO BE POPPED FOR THREE GAME CHECKS?

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to fine Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter three game checks for pleading no contest to battery against Bengals left tackle Levi Jones at a Las Vegas casino.

The incident occurred not long after Porter signed a contract with the Dolphins, which includes $20 million in guaranteed money.

At a base salary of $800,000, a fine of three game checks equals more than $141,000.

But the good news for the Dolphins and Porter is that no suspension will be imposed. Frankly, we think that the team lobbied the Commish aggressively to refrain from parking Porter, citing the fact that the Fins are giving up a home game this year in an effort to advance the league's European experiment.
No missed game time. The media blanket on this story worked like a charm.

So I think our O-line should reciprocate on Mr. Porter during the Fins game. Only leave his ersatz jewelry--he likely got it out of a quarter machine anyway (that's where I get mine--love the dollar bill rings).

Well Porter got off pretty lightly. Wow the double standard is in full effect. If this was a Bengals Lber jumping a Miami Dolphin olineman Goddell would likely throw away the key to the jail cell. Well it will be interesting to see how much longer Odell's reinstatement takes. I do think Chris Henry's suspension should be reduced to only 4 games. This new conduct policy really sucks if your team is not one of the favorites.

Levi needs to release his copy of the video to the internet. Let us all see this mugging.

Titans would beg to differ. It's the B-list Code of Conduct--clearly it doesn't apply to any top-shelf stars.

Not true. Pacman was offered a deal to reinstate early. Henry has not been offered any deal.

There is no double standard. GoOdell has NEVER suspended any player for his first brush with the law. Henry, Tank, Pacman, and Jarod allen all have multiple convictions or criminal charges that they did not contest.

The Bears were in the Super Bowl and GoOdell still suspended Tank.

Sure, Pacman can get his suspension reduced, but it did not cover his Las vegas trouble so it could also get INCREASED dramatically based on how that plays out.

Didn't Joey Porter get into trouble before? I thought this was his second time in trouble.

Tank was allowed to play in the superbowl. If it was the Bengals and Henry, ...would Henry be allowed to play it? (IMO, ...no)

Pacman is still clubbing in a report out today. So he can get in even more trouble soon enough. The Titans have asked Goodell to look into barring him from training camp. They are attempting to distance themselves from him as much as possible between now and the inevitable next legal mess. They can see it coming.

Henry's not doing that. He's living up to the rules. Where is the offer of early reinstatement to him?

Oh, that's right, ...he's a Bengal, ...and the code really belongs to the Bengals.

Btw, ...what's the hold up for Odell's reinstatement? They must have better things to do than reinstate a Bengal.

I think Roger is just a LITTLE busy right now with the Michael Vick dog show...I would expect Odell to be on the back burner for awhile.

 Roger just released a notice that the NFL would do nothing on Vic before the courts have their say. If that's what you call busy then I'd love to have that job. I'd love to work at nothing all day.

That sure is a change from the Henry and PacMan situations...
I thought his big thing was that he didn't want ot wait until the coursts had their say. I guess it's different when it's a high-profile QB who would sink the franchise if he went missing as opposed to a 3rd string WR with mad skills?

So sucker punching William Green before a game and getting thrown out is not considered a problem? This pisses me off. Porter is a loud mouth has-been with a history of trouble. Goodell needs to be fair and give this asshole what he deserves.

Heres what wikipedia has to say about him:

During his career, Porter has become known for his conflicts with other players, league officials and other teams, as well as a few off-the-field incidents.

* In 2003, he was shot on the left side of his buttocks outside of a bar in Denver, Colorado. He was in town for the Colorado-Colorado State football game. However, he was an innocent bystander in this incident.
* Porter was ejected from a 2004 game against the Cleveland Browns after getting into a fistfight with Browns running back William Green. Green was also ejected for this altercation.
* Porter is known to bare his belly and taunt other teams during warm-ups, as in the Green altercation.
* Before pissburgh's 2005 divisional playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts, Porter commented:

"They don't want to just sit there, line up and play football. They want to try to catch you off guard. They don't want to play smash-mouth football, they want to trick you with candy and bring you into their car and lock all the doors. ...They want to catch you substituting. Know what I mean? They don't want to just call a play, get up there and run a play. They want to make you think. They want it to be a thinking game instead of a football game."[1]

* After the Indianapolis game, Porter claimed that the referees had unfairly called an interception by Troy Polamalu an incompletion because they favored the Colts, stating:

"The whole world wanted Indy to win so bad, they were going to do whatever they had to do. I mean, look at the O.J. trial"[2] Although Porter was expected to be fined for these comments, he never was, perhaps because the NFL later condemned the official's decision.[3] (ya right)

* In the weeks before Super Bowl XL, Porter was angered by comments made by Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens. Stevens was quoted as saying that "The story of Jerome fat fuck bettis returning to his hometown (Detroit) is heartwarming, but it's going be a sad day when he doesn't walk away with that trophy." Porter responded by saying that comments such as those made by Stevens only helped him to prepare for the upcoming game. Stevens mused at Porter's comments and went on to catch his team's only touchdown, however it was Porter's team that won the game.
* Leading up to the Steelers' traditional Super Bowl champions visit to the White House on June 2, 2006, Porter generated headlines by suggesting that he would criticize President George W. Bush. The pissburgh Post-Gazette quoted him as saying: "Yeah, I got something to say to Bush, I'm going to have a swagger when I walk in there, too," Porter said, laughing loudly. "I'm looking forward to it. I have something to tell him, too. I don't like the way things are running right now. I feel like he has to give me some of my money back, so I got something to tell Bush." The Steelers later released a statement saying that Porter had been joking and that he meant no disrespect. At the White House, in an effort to downplay the controversy, he was put as far as possible from the president on the bleachers behind him, in the back row on the right, wearing sunglasses.
* Porter was fined every game for wearing yellow gloves with the Steelers. Even though they are the team's color, the league still does not allow his yellow gloves to be worn.
* On September 21, 2006, his two dogs (a mastiff and a pit bull) got loose and killed a neighbor's 29-inch miniature horse. [4]
* Porter was voted as the second-dirtiest player in the NFL in a 2006 players' poll (Receiving 6% of the votes). [5]
* On December 7, 2006, following a victory over the Cleveland Browns, Porter used a homosexual slur in his comments against Browns' tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. regarding a late hit penalty he committed against Steelers linebacker James Farrior.

"It was late, that's what faggots do. He's soft. He wants to be tough but he's really soft."[6]

After criticism of the comment as anti-gay, Porter clarified that he "didn't mean to offend anybody but Kellen Winslow."[7]
If that`s true (I`m considering the source) then that`s a bunch of bullshit !

AND WHERE IS THE DAMN VIDEO ??!!!!!!!
Looks like him and his agent have not seen the tape yet....Hmmmmmmmmmmm ???

JOEY FINE: Levi Jones sounded a bit taken aback Thursday that according to a NFL Network report, commissioner Roger Goodell has opted not to suspend Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter despite his arrest and plea after assaulting Jones at a Las Vegas casino in March. Jones also had thousands of dollars in jewelry missing that was later returned to the casino.

A police report said a videotape showed Porter and several members of his entourage jumping Jones.

The report said Goodell fined Porter three game checks at $141,000.

In a text message, Jones reacted to the report with, "I just hope if I jumped and robbed a fellow NFL brother he would have been that lenient with me."

Ken Zuckerman, Jones' agent, said his client hasn't decided if he'll pursue Porter in a civil suit and he won't make the call until he's allowed to view the tape.

"I thought it could have been harsher, but then again, I'm not sure what all went into the decision," Zuckerman said. "Certainly $150,000 is a lot of money."

Jones, who missed all spring practice as he tries to come back from last season's knee surgery, has had a productive last month, Zuckerman said.

"I think he'll be ready to practice. I'm not sure he's ready to play in a game yet," Zuckerman said. "But he should be ready. That's the plan."

Goodell is simply an asshat if he doesnt give Joey Blowhard Porter some kind of suspension for his attack on Levi.
Hell on second thought he should simply suspend Porter for not being man enough to take on Jones by himself.

There is only one player left who Goodell has remained constant on the code of conduct. All others have been offered a deal or in the case of Vic will be ignored. Henry is the only one left that Goodell can point to and say "I'm tough." If he decides to get fair with Henry then his code of conduct is a complete bust (it was destined to be anyway). So he won't.

His biggest mistake was saying anything about how the NFL would handle Vic. He should have remained silent about Vic and protect his new code. I question his competence as our commissioner. His next move should be to straighten out this mess he's created of the code and this Porter decision doesn't help. He's all over the board on his decisions and lately none of them support the code.

The value of a code is in the enforcement of it. That code stands severely diminished from its original form and he will now need to alter it a bit to salvage it. As it stands currently, all players finding themselves in trouble with the code will bring in heavy legal representation and this will slow the process and we are on the doorstep to player lawsuits against the league.

After all, everyone wants to be treated like Vic, ...who would want to be treated like Henry?

This is why I call it the "Bengals Code Of Conduct" because it boils down to just us as the lone example.

Why do I have to keep repeating myself. Pacman and Henry both had mutiple convictions or criminal cases where they did not contest their guilt before they were suspeded. Vick has no prior convictions or criminal charges of any type. Tank had not been convicted the for the second time before the Super Bowl. Porter has never been convicted of anything before. Stop all of your crybaby whining. Give up on the "Bengal victim" mentality. And most of all GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!

GoOdell is being consistent!

The Porter decision isn't consistent with his code of conduct and Porter has been in trouble before.

Porter has never been in any legal trouble. He got ejected from ONE game in his career, and even that did not warrant a suspension. Talking shit and being a dumbass are perfectly legal in this country, or else half the members of this board would be in jail.

Please name ONE player that GoOdell has supended based on his first conviction or uncontested criminal charge. I'll save you some time. There are none. GoOdell is being consistent.
