Smith breaks foot

Less than 48 hours after signing his contract, rookie right tackle Andre Smithsuffered a fractured foot late in Tuesday's practice and is going to be out of action for what head coach Marvin Lewis called "a few weeks."

In a statement released through the Bengals public relations department, Lewis said, “Andre suffered a small fracture in his left foot during a non-contact drill. Our medical staff tells me the injury will not require surgery, which obviously is good news, but he’s going to miss a few weeks. ”

"A few weeks," could mean anything. Cornerbacks David Jones and Morgan Trent suffered foot fractures during this preseason and their rehab took about five weeks. But Smith's may not be as long because both Jones and Morgan had surgery.

We are only left to wonder if this would have happened if he had been in camp on time...

I am not seeing this on Bengals.com....where is it?

It was on the right for a bit but now it's the main story. No surgery is good but one would think carrying 330lbs+ is going to make his recovery on the long end of the expected recovery time.

lol yeah...being in camp the entire time....staying in shape and not having to play intense catch up I am sure played no part.....

This is the kind of thing that happens when everyone else is 30 days ahead of a rookie.

Dude, you went on and on AND ON about his holdout,
and now you are continuing? Geez, give it a rest.

Anyway, Morgan Trent and David Jones were in camp on time,
yet they broke their foot (feet, foots?) too. And they even
broke their's worse, because they had to have surgery.

Thanks for the holdout, Keels. It really paid off, didn't it? And now, your boy won't hit most of those first-year escalators so your commision will be cut, you greedy, incompetent, asswipe.

This just sucks.

I expect this to keep him out for a minimum of the first half of the season.

Our First Round Draft Pick jinx continues...

Yeah, Marvin's "out for a few weeks" sure sounds optimistic...in Marvin-speak that may mean the IR

That's probably worse though...Now a DE or a DT can just stomp on that foot and waltz on through.

Seriously, though, he probably wasn't going to start until at least week 6. Stick his ass on the PUP list and keep someone else around for a while.

Can he go on the PUP? I thought because he practiced he can't. But as everyone knows, I tend to make up things without realizing it.

can't go on the PUP.

This certainly sets him back some, but luckily doesn't effect the starting lineup. He can still learn the playbook, lift weights, and do situps! Big thing will be missing the reps.

The more i think about it the more your comment is just dumb.

Your in camp on time you get to take your time to get the ball rolling, to get in shape.

I can tell you right now. The chances of me jumping into practice and immeditely going 110% my chances of injuring myself are way higher. Rather than if you gave me a couple months to get in shape first.

His head was saying im ready lets go 110%.

His body wasnt ready yet for 110%.

Hmm, ...they weren't practicing a 3 tackle set, ...right? I mean, ...where was Collins when this happened? ...maybe lined up next to him? ...on the inside next to his left foot? Naaaa, ...that could never happen!
