Besides, how can you read that tweet and think anything different than that he was ripping the bengals? No other way to read it.

i'm ecstatic over this manuever...completely blows my mind. the one question i have is how long was this in the works? we'll probably never find out the answer to that one. like you said, jones was cut and the "5th, if that" is a good call. i'd bet it's "at that".

coach him up, coyle. i wouldn't be surprised to see him starting by mid season.

Bernstein is the host of CB Sports on ESPN Radio 1420 in St. Augustine, Fla., and Editor-in-Chief of Sports Media Interactive. Charlie covers the Jacksonville Jaguars for FoxSports and has been featured on the NFL Network and Sirius NFL Radio. He's also a member of the Pro Football Writers of America.

Here is Charlie's scouting report on Reggie Nelson:

[i]Reggie Nelson came into the league with oodles of potential as many compared his physical abilities to that of Baltimore's Ed Reed. Nelson has sideline-to-sideline speed, solid hands, and a tendency to deliver hard hits. As a rookie, Nelson picked off five passes and although he bit on play-action, many believed that this was just part of a rookie's learning curve.[/i] [i]With big things expected of Nelson in his second season, he regressed and continued to bite on play-action. This continued throughout last season and it became evident that Nelson wasn't going to live up to the expectations of his draft status. (He was a 2007 first-round draft pick, 21st overall, out of Florida).[/i] [i]Nelson may have lots of physical ability, but he doesn't have the mental fortitude to be counted upon as a starting safety. Though having a tendency to lead with his helmet while tackling, Nelson avoids contact at other times as he often gets blocked by receivers and uses poor tackling form.[/i] [i]He still bites on play-action and he has been labeled "soft" by Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio. If the Jaguars had not traded Jones, they would have released him.[i]

I feel like on a solid Run D like the Bengals, you can teach him to focus more on the pass and not worry about the run until you see the ball in the RB's hands.

It may put him a step behind in getting to the ball carrier, but its better than giving up a big pass play. Plus, the front 7 will be pretty good at stopping the run without him.

Reggie Nelson far exceeds my expectations for the type of safety I thought the Bengals would wind up signing. He's a legit talent and many here wanted to draft him back in 2007. He had a solid rookie year but has slipped since then. Add him to the list of castoffs from other teams with something to prove.

Hell yeah...loved all the hard knocks scenes with the defense last year. Zimmer continues to remind them of the slap in the face they received from their former teams. Really knows how to add fuel to the fire.
